Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched the seventh consecutive edition of Swachh Survekshan in New Delhi. It is the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey conducted by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban. Designed with People First as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan is the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey and is conducted by Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).

Swachh Survekshan 2022 is curated towards capturing the initiatives of cities for the overall welfare and well-being of frontline sanitation workers. The survey, flavored with the Azaadi@75 spirit, will also give priority to the voices of senior citizens and young adults alike and reinforce their participation towards upholding the cleanliness of urban India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired the 38th PRAGATI meeting, the ICT-based multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, involving Centre and State governments.

In the meeting, eight projects were taken for review having a cumulative cost of around Rs 50,000 crore. Four of these projects were from the Ministry of Railways, two from the Ministry of Power, and one each from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Ministry of Civil Aviation.

In the previous 37 PRAGATI meetings, 297 projects having a total cost of Rs. 14.39 lakh crore has been reviewed.

The Government of India has extended the timeline of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) till 31.03.2022 or the scope of the Rs 4.5 Lakh crore Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) has been widened with a purpose to support the Covid pandemic hit MSME sector. Which is severely facing the liquidity issue.

The last date of disbursement under the scheme has also been extended to 30.06.2022. ECLGS is managed by National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Ltd (NCGTC).

The government will launch the initial public offering (IPO) of ECGC in FY23 to “unlock its true value” and infuse capital of Rs 4,400 crore into the company, which has an 85% share in the country’s export credit insurance market, over the next five years. The government has also approved the Initial Public Offer (IPO) on the Stock Exchange of ECGC Ltd. ECGC was set up with the objective of improving the competitiveness of the exports by providing Credit Risk Insurance and related services for exports.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday removed Indian Overseas Bank from its prompt corrective action (PCA) framework, subject to certain conditions and continuous monitoring. This means the bank will no longer face strict lending restrictions that were put in place by the RBI.

RBI said that as per the published results for the year ended March 31, 2021, IOB is not in breach of the PCA parameters.

The Reserve Bank has specified certain regulatory trigger points, as a part of the prompt corrective action (PCA) framework, in terms of 3 parameters, i.e. capital to risk-weighted assets ratio, net non-performing assets, and Return on Assets. These should be maintained by banks. Earlier this month, RBI had also removed UCO Bank from the PCA framework.

Piramal has completed the acquisition of Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) for Rs 34,250 crore which includes a cash component and non-convertible debentures. This is the first successful resolution of a financial services company under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).

The total consideration of Rs 34,250 crore includes an upfront cash payment of nearly Rs 14,700 crore and issuance of debt instruments of nearly Rs 19,550 crores (10-year NCDs at 6.75% p.a. on a half-yearly basis). The creditors of DHFL will recover an aggregate amount of Rs 38,000 crore from the DHFL’s resolution, which includes Rs 34,250 crore paid by Piramal Enterprises and Rs 3,800 crore from the cash balance of DHFL.

Padmaja Chunduru has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer (MD & CEO) of National Securities Depositories (NSDL). Her appointment has been ratified by the shareholders of NSDL at its meeting held on September 29, the company said in a release.

She has replaced GV Nageswara Rao as the MD & CEO of NSDL.

In India, there are two depositories namely National Securities Depositories Ltd (NSDL) and Central Securities Depositories Ltd (CDSL). Both the depositories hold our financial securities.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet extended the additional charge of PK Purwar as chairman and managing director of loss-making telecom firm MTNL for a period of one year till 14-10-2022. Purwar also holds the position of chairman and managing director of debt-ridden firm BSNL. The government has already announced the merger of BSNL and MTNL.
