Instagram launches ‘Take a Break’ campaign to encourage breaks from social media
Instagram has announced a new campaign named ‘Take a Break’ that will alert users scrolling on Instagram to periodically take breaks from the platform and focus on other things.
The ‘Take a Break’ feature essentially gives users an option to set up reminders to take a break after a certain amount of time. Instagram head Adam Mosseri had explained how this feature works in a tweet in November last year, where he said that ‘Take a Break’ has been designed to remind users to stop using the app after they have spent a certain amount of time on it.
This campaign has been launched by Instagram in India and various other countries. The platform will also alert users of the new inclusion with a notification.
SEBI directs AMCs to set up audit committee with minimum three directors
Market regulator Sebi has directed the mutual fund (MF) industry to set up an audit committee at the asset management company (AMC) level. Currently, such a committee is set up by the trustee of a fund house.
The committee shall be responsible for oversight of the financial reporting process, compliance to laws and regulations. The audit committee will require a minimum of three directors and at least two-third of them shall be independent directors of the AMC.
NATO chief, Jens Stoltenberg to head Norway central bank
Jens Stoltenberg will be appointed as the Governor of Norges Bank i.e. the Central Bank of Norway at the end of 2022.The appointment comes amid escalating tensions between the West and Russia. Western nations fear Moscow has plans to invade Ukraine, which aspires to join the NATO alliance.
Jens Stoltenberg is the Secretary-General at North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and his term at NATO ends on October 01, 2022.

Nineteen beneficiaries were identified from various Community Based Organizations (CBOs). They were trained in pruning method of low-chilling apples as well as on how to protect plants from pests and diseases that affects the crop.
India’s first biomass-based hydrogen plant to come up at Madhya Pradesh
India’s first commercial-scale biomass-based hydrogen plant will come up at the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Every day this plant will produce one tonne of hydrogen, from 30 tonnes of biomass feedstock. The plant is being put up by a joint venture of Watomo Energies Ltd and Biezel Green Energy with an investment of Rs 24 crore.
“Thermally accelerated anaerobic digestion (TAD) reactor” is a technology that can produce hydrogen, methane and biochar from biomass. Biezel Green will own 50 per cent in the yet-to-be-named joint venture; the other 50 per cent will come from interested farmers.
RBI emerged as the second-largest buyer of Gold among the world’s Central Banks in 2021
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has emerged as the second-largest buyer of Gold among the world’s Central Banks in 2021. The largest buyer, the Central Bank of Thailand, bought 90 metric tonnes of gold while RBI bought 77.5 metric tonnes taking its total gold reserve to 754.1 tonnes at the end of December 2021.
Central Bank of Thailand (Bank of Thailand) was the highest buyer of Gold in 2021 and bought 90 metric tonnes of gold. As per Goldhub, India’s official gold reserves is the 9th largest in the world. Goldhub is the official website of the World Gold Council that maintains all the data regarding precious metal.
Sanjay Malhotra appointed DFS Secretary in Finance Ministry
The Centre has appointed Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, as Secretary in the Department of Financial Services in Finance Ministry. Before this, Sanjay Malhotra was Chairman and Managing Director of REC Ltd.
He has succeeded Debashish Panda, who completed his term as DFS Secretary on January 31, 2022.
Razorpay buys majority stake in Malaysian startup “Curlec” at over $19 mn valuation
Fintech unicorn Razorpay has acquired a majority stake in Curlec in a deal that values the Malaysian payments startup at over $19 million. Razorpay will fully acquire the company later in 18 months.
Overall this is the fourth acquisition of Razorpay and the first acquisition in a foreign country. Prior to this, Razorpay has acquired TERA Finlabs in 2021, Opfin in 2019 and Thirdwatch in 2018. With this, Razorpay aims to expand in the South East Asia region.
Scientists develop new technology platform to detect SARS-CoV-2
A team of Indian scientists have developed a new technology platform for fluorometric detection of pathogens such as viruses by measurement of fluorescent light emitted.
The new technology has been demonstrated for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. It can also be used to detect other DNA/RNA pathogens like HIV, influenza, HCV, Zika, Ebola, bacteria, and other mutating pathogens. This work has been published recently in the journal ‘ACS Sensors’ and team has also filed patent for novel technology.
Paul Collingwood appointed as interim head coach of England cricket team
England has appointed Paul Collingwood as the interim head coach of the team for the upcoming three-Test tour against West Indies. His appointment comes after former head coach Chris Silverwood and managing director (MD) Ashley Giles were sacked, following England’s 4-0 Ashes defeat to Australia.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Uttarakhand. The chief minister of the state Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced Akshay Kumar’s appointment as Brand Ambassador of The Hill State after meeting at his residence in Dehradun.
This announcement was made by the chief minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami ahead of Assembly Elections 2022. In 2021, cricketer Rishabh Pant was also appointed as Uttarakhand’s brand ambassador.
Gujarat govt announces new IT/ITeS policy to generate 1 lakh employment
Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel has announced new IT/ITeS policy for the next five years
Aim: to provide financial incentives up to Rs 200 crore to the entities willing to incur capital expenditures.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Patel said that it aims to generate employment for about 1 lakh youths in the next five years. It also seeks to increase IT-ITeS exports from the current 3000 crore rupees annually to 25,000 crore rupees over the next five years in the state. Its operative period will start from the day of notification to 31st March 2027.
