NaBFID to be regulated as AIFI under RBI Act

The Reserve Bank said NaBFID will be regulated and supervised as an All India Financial Institution by it under the RBI Act, 1934.

It will now be guided under Sections 45L and 45N of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. Currently, RBI has four AIFIs: EXIM Bank, NABARD, NHB, and SIDBI.

NaBFID: Development Financial Institution (DFI) to support the development of long-term infrastructure financing in India.

Labour Minister releases Book titled Role of Labour in India’s Development

Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Bhupender Yadav has released book titled ‘Role of Labour in India’s Development’ at New Delhi.

The Book contains 12 articles written by eminent academicians and practitioners on the contribution of labour in India’s development journey. It has been published by V V Giri National Labour Institute.

It has been launched as a part of the ‘Iconic Week’ of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, celebrating 75th year of India’s Independence.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar announces ‘Sushma Swaraj Award’ for women

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar presented the Budget 2022-23 in the state’s Assembly and announced the ’Sushma Swaraj Award’ for women for their significant contribution or achievements in different walks of life in national and international spheres.

The Sushma Swaraj Award will carry a commendation and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. The award has been named after Late Sushma Swaraj, a daughter of Haryana. She had served as former Chief Minister of Delhi and former Union Minister of External Affairs.

Karnataka launches Women@Work (WOW) Program to provide 5 lakh jobs to women

The Government of Karnataka has launched the ‘Women@Work (WOW) Program’, in a bid to raise their workforce strength in workplaces by creating an equitable, inclusive and equal world for women. The Women@Work (W@W) programme with an aim to provide five lakh jobs within 2026 to women with necessary employable skills.

The W@W Program is being organised jointly by Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), KTECH and Karnataka Skill Development Corporation, Government of Karnataka. Under the W@W Program free certificate courses will be run for women for imparting them training in specialized skills to become employable in the next five years.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of former DFS Secretary Debasish Panda, a retired IAS officer, as the Chairperson of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), which is the insurance regulator. 

Debasish Panda is a former financial services secretary. The post of Chairman of IRDAI was lying vacant since May 2021 when Subhash Chandra Khuntia completed his term.

Haryana CM ML Khattar announces Haryana Matrushakti Udaymita Scheme

On International Women’s Day, Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar who also holds the Finance portfolio, announced a new scheme for women, the Haryana Matrushakti Udaymita Scheme-to provide support to women entrepreneurs. Under this, those women who wish to become entrepreneurs will be provided access to soft loans. 

Eligibility: Women whose families annual income is less than Rs 5 lakh based on Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) verified data.

Maximum Loan amount: Rs 3 lakh.

Interest subvention of 7% will be provided.

India’s first fully women-owned industrial park becomes operational

India’s first 100 per cent women-owned industrial park began operations in Hyderabad. Promoted by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in partnership with the State government, the park has 25 units, representing 16 diverse green category industries, all owned and operated by women.

Industrial park is promoted by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in partnership with the state government of Telangana. It is spread over a 50-acre area in Sultanpur near Patancheru industrial area. Estimated investment cost of the project: Rs 250 crores.

Cabinet Approves formation of National Land Monetisation Corporation (NLMC)

Cabinet has approved National Land Monetisation Corporation (NLMC) formation.

Aim: to handle the sale of surplus land and buildings of the government, its agencies, and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).

NLMC:

It will be a wholly-owned central government entity. Initial authorised share capital: Rs 5,000 crore.

Paid-up share capital: Rs 150 crore. It will be a lean organisation with minimal full-time staff, hired directly from the market on contract basis.

India and World Bank sign $125 Million Loan for Social Protection Services

Govt of India, Govt of West Bengal, and World Bank has signed $125 million IBRD loan to support efforts to help poor and vulnerable groups access social protection services in West Bengal.

West Bengal runs more than 400 programs for social assistance, care services, and jobs under umbrella platform called Jai Bangla.

West Bengal Building State Capability for Inclusive Social Protection Project will support these interventions at the state level.

Details of the sub-schemes:

Incubation: promote and support untapped creativity with assistance of up to Rs. 15 lakh per idea.

Design: Bring Indian manufacturing sector and Design experts on a common platform with assistance up to Rs. 40 lakh for design project.

IPR (Intellectual Property Rights): improve the IP culture in India.

Prior to this, she was working as executive director of Hindustan Unilever (HUL).

Colgate-Palmolive (India): Provides oral care products under ‘Colgate’ brand. It also provides personal care products under ‘Palmolive’ brand name.

SC appoints Justice AK Sikri as Chairperson of High Powered Committee on Chardham project

The Supreme Court on Friday appointed its former judge Justice AK Sikri as Chairperson of the court-appointed High Powered Committee to look after the environmental concerns and other issues related to the Char Dham highway project. The previous Chairperson Professor Ravi Chopra had resigned from his post in February 2022, after being appointed as the chairperson of the HPC on August 8, 2019.

The HPC would look after the environmental concerns and other issues related to the Chardham project as well as the cumulative and independent impact of the Chardham project on the entire Himalayan valley. Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the first drone school in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on March 10, 2022.

This drone school is one of the five Drone Schools planned to be opened in different cities of Madhya Pradesh. The other four cities are Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Satna.

Former Pakistani President and jurist Rafiq Tarar, passes away at 92

Rafiq Tarar, a veteran Pakistani politician and former Supreme Court judge who served as the country’s President from 1997 to 2001, passed away on Monday due to prolonged illness. He was 92.

Tarar served as the 9th President of Pakistan from January 1998 until his resignation in June 2001. Prior to joining politics, Tarar had served as a senior justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan from 1991 to 1994. He also served as the 28th Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court from March 6, 1989 to October 31, 1991.
