GI certified Fazil mango shipped to Bahrain

GI certified Fazil mango shipped to Bahrain

A consignment of Geographical Identification (GI) certified Fazil mango variety sourced from Malda district of West Bengal was exported to Bahrain.

The consignment of Fazil mango was exported by APEDA registered DM enterprises, Kolkata and imported by Al Jazira group, Bahrain.

APEDA has been initiating measures to boost mango exports from the non-traditional regions and states. It has been conducting virtual buyer-seller meets and festivals to promote mango exports.

Mango in India is also referred to as ‘king of fruits’ and referred to as Kalpavriksha (wish granting tree) in ancient scriptures.

While most of the states in India have mango plantations, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka have a major share in total production of the fruit.

Alphonso, Kesar, Totapuri and Banganpalli are leading export varieties from India. Mango exports primarily take place in three forms: fresh mango, mango pulp, and mango slice.

The 21st Session of India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) was held where Piyush Goyal, Commerce & Industry Minister and Mr. Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy co-chaired the Session.

Both sides held extensive discussions on bilateral trade and Investment and economic cooperation in the areas of Food Processing, Textiles, Leather, Railways, Start-ups and promotion of SMEs which play crucial role in economic growth and employment generation.

The bilateral market access issues and non-tariff barriers were also discussed to facilitate trade and investment. The progress on the outcomes of India-EU leaders Summit in Porto, Portugal was also reviewed.

Indian farmers meet experts to learn ways to boost agri export

APEDA in collaboration with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), traders, exporters, agricultural scientists, Uttar Pradesh government & other institutions organized a meet at Varanasi to promote agricultural crops exports and adherence to global practices.

It is worth noting that Bangladesh is one of the largest markets for India’s agriculture products.

A leading Indian newspaper recently reported that India’s agricultural exports to Bangladesh recorded the second highest growth of 95.93% in 2020-21 after Indonesia (102.42%).

According to APEDA, India ranks second after China in production of fruits and vegetables in the world.

Bangladesh, UAE, the Netherlands, Nepal, Malaysia, UK, Sri Lanka, Oman and Qatar are major destinations for Indian fruits and vegetables.

Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman attended the third G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting.

The two-day meeting held on July 9th and 10th, 2021 saw discussions on a wide range of issues including global economic risks and health challenges, policies for recovery from the CoVID-19 pandemic, international taxation, sustainable finance and financial sector issues.

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors reaffirmed their resolve to use all available policy tools for as long as required to address the adverse consequences of COVID-19.

External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar recently held talks with Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Georgia, David Zalkaliani.

Georgia is a country located at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.

It is a part of the Caucasus region, bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north and east by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan.

There are 8000 Indian students who study in Georgia. There are more than 50 thousand Indian tourists who visit the country.

Georgia is a developing country with very high Human Development, high levels of economic freedom, and low corruption. It is one of the first countries in the world to legalize cannabis for both recreational and medical use, becoming the only former-communist state in the world to do so.

Prime Minister Modi recently received the first copy of “The Ramayana of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji” which is written by the late Baljit Kaur Tulsi—the mother of noted lawyer KTS Tulsi.

PM Modi had made a mention of Shri Guru Gobind Ji’s Gobind Ramayan during his address at the Bhoomi Poojan of the Ram Janmbhoomi on August 5, 2020.

However, the statement was criticized by many and it was said that the Sikh guru never wrote anything as such, with some even staging protests.

The book has now been published by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).

Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth and last of Sikh gurus in human form. He was enthroned at the ‘Guru Gaddi’ at the age of 9 after his father Guru Tej Bahadur Ji, the 9th Guru.

GIS Enabled Land Bank gaining popularity

The India Industrial Land Bank is a GIS-based portal – a one-stop repository of all industrial infrastructure-related information – connectivity, infra, natural resources & terrain, plot-level information on vacant plots, line of activity, and contact details.

Currently, the IILB has approximately 4000 industrial parks mapped across an area of 5.5 lakh hectare of land, serving as a decision support system for investors scouting for land remotely.

The system has been integrated with industry-based GIS systems of 17 states to have details on the portal updated on a real-time basis and will achieve pan-India integration by December 2021.

BRICS Countries Agree to Innovation Cooperation Action Plan

All BRICS countries have agreed to the STI-led BRICS Innovation Cooperation Action Plan (2021-24) proposed by India during the 12th meeting of the BRICS S&T Steering Committee.

India had proposed the plan to facilitate sharing of experiences of each other’s innovation ecosystem and networking of innovators and entrepreneurs.

The Details of the Action Plan would be worked out by BRICS Science, Technology Innovation Entrepreneurship partnership (STIEP) Working Group.

It was agreed that the proposal may be forwarded to BRICS STIEP working group through the respective country’s STI focal point.

Department of Science and Technology (DST), India, hosted the 12th Meeting of BRICS S&T Steering Committee on 8th July, 2021. Scientific ministries and agencies of all BRICS countries participated in it.

IIT Madras & Sony India organized a National hackathon called ‘SAMVEDAN 2021 – Sensing Solutions for Bharat’.

This Grand Challenge Competition is based on the Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation’s SPRESENSEa„¢ Board, which participants can use for this challenge.

A team with maximum of three members can register for the grand challenge. The challenge will be held in three stages quarterfinals, semi-finals and the finals.

75 ideas will be selected for the quarter finals, and among them, 25 best ideas will be selected for semi-finals.

There will be seven finalists with prizes for every finalist. Prizes worth 3 Lakhs will be awarded to the best teams.

Further, each quarter finalist will be provided with a SPRESENSETM board free of cost by Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation through IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

World Population Day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.

It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day, the approximate date on which the world’s population reached five billion people on July 11, 1987.
