Telangana govt tie-up with British Council to expand higher education
British Council, an international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural exchange, and the Telangana government on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to renew their partnership in education, English and arts to create opportunities for the youth of Telangana.
Under the extended 3-year MoU, the British Council has also signed an agreement with the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) to work closely to engineer new partnerships between universities, research institutions and centres of excellence in the UK and in Telangana.
17th edition of Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF-2022) to be held from May 29 to June 4
The 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction, and Animation films (MIFF-2022) will be held from 29th of May to 4th of June this year. The festival will be held at the Films Division complex in Mumbai. The online entry for the films will be opened from Tuesday and will continue till 15th of March. Those films which were completed between September 01, 2019 to December 31, 2021 are eligible for entry in MIFF-2022.
The programme is organized by the Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting since 1990, with support from Government of Maharashtra, and focuses on documentary, short fiction and animation films. It is the oldest and largest festival for non-feature films in South Asia.
Films completed between 1st September 2019 and 31st December 2021 are eligible for entry in MIFF-2022. The Best Documentary of the Festival will receive a Golden Conch and 10 lakh rupees cash award. The winning films in different categories will receive handsome cash awards, Silver Conches, Trophies and Certificates.
Government set target to Replace Diesel by Renewable Energy in Farm Sector by 2024
The Power Ministry said on Friday that India has set an ambitious target of replacing diesel with renewable energy (RE) in the agriculture sector by 2024, as part of the government’s commitment to increasing the share of non-fossil fuels by 2030 and becoming a net zero emitter by 2070.

Centre approves continuation of Modernization of State Police Forces (MPF) Scheme for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26; total outlay: Rs. 26,275 cr
The central government on Sunday announced the approval of the umbrella scheme for modernization and improvement of police forces in states and Union territories for five more years. The ministry of home affairs said in a statement that the umbrella scheme of Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF) has been approved for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26. Total Central financial outlay for five years is Rs. 26,275 crore. The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) since 1969-70.

Ambassador Rajiv Kumar Bhatia, a Distinguished Fellow, Foreign Policy Studies Programme at Gateway House, has authored a new book (his 3rd book) titled “India-Africa Relations: Changing Horizons” which explores the emergence and assertion of Africa as a significant actor and stakeholder in global affairs and the transformation of the relationship between India and Africa.
The book presents an in-depth exploration of India–Africa partnership in all its critical dimensions, and continental, regional and bilateral facets of India–Africa relations. The book also offers a roadmap to strengthen and deepen the relationship in the coming decade.

Sebi reconstitutes its 8-member advisory committee on Investor Protection and Education Fund; Head-G Mahalingam
Securities and Exchange Board of India has restructured its advisory committee on Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF), under the chairmanship of G Mahalingam.
G Mahalingam, the former Whole Time Member of Sebi, is the new Chair of the eight-member committee.
Members of Committee: Vijay Kumar Venkataraman, Mrin Agarwal, A Balasubramanian, M G Parameswaran, GP Garg, N Hariharan and Jayanta Jash. Earlier the panel was headed by Abraham Koshy, former professor of IIM-Ahmedabad. The objective of the advisory committee is to find out ways and means to best utilise the investor protection and education fund of Sebi.
GSL delivers final vessel ‘ICGS Saksham’ under 5 Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vehicle (CGOPV) Project
The Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) delivered the 5th and final vessel of the 5 Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vehicle (CGOPV) Project to the Indian Coast Guard, on February 08, 2022, ahead of contractual schedule. The vessel was named as ICGS ‘Saksham’.
All 5 vessels under the project have been delivered before time to the Indian Coast Guard by GSL. The contract for 5 CGOPVs was inked between GSL and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 26th Aug 2016 for INR 20 billion. Other 4 vessels under the project are ICGS Sachet, ICGS Sujeet, ICGS Sajag and ICGS Sarthak respectively.

Military officer Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba appointed as interim President of Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso’s new military strongman, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, has been declared President by the country’s top constitutional body after a coup last month, legal sources said Thursday.
The 2022 Burkina Faso military coup took place on January 24, 2022, which was led by Damiba. President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo were disposed from their position and the parliament, government and constitution were declared dissolved.
India to help Sri Lanka launch its version of Aadhaar Card
India has agreed to provide a grant to Sri Lanka to implement a ‘Unitary Digital Identity framework’, apparently modelled on the Aadhaar card. The Rajapaksa government will “prioritise” the implementation of the Framework as a national-level programme. The initiative follows bilateral talks between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa & Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2019.

Nobel Prize winning French Scientist Luc Montagnier, who discovered HIV Virus, passes away at 89
Luc Montagnier, the French virologist and Nobel laureate whose co-discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus sparked a global search for an AIDS cure, has died. He was 89. He died on Feb. 8 at a hospital in a suburb of Paris.
The noted virologist won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, which he shared with fellow researcher Francoise Barre-Sinoussi and the duo shared half of Nobel Prize with Germany’s Harald zur Hausen.
NABARD launched ‘JIVA Programme’ to promote natural farming
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched the ‘JIVA programme’ to promote natural farming under its existing watershed and wadi programmes in 11 states. To effectively implement the principles of agroecology long-term sustainability and transform the pre-existing social and natural capital towards efficient farming. JIVA is an agroecology-based programme, an amalgamation of several projects under the watershed programme of NABARD and will be implemented in 11 states covering five agroecological zones, which are in ecologically fragile and rain-fed areas.
