Indian Railways’ First Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal commissioned in Asansol Division of Eastern Railway
In pursuance of the Prime Minister’s vision “Gati Shakti” and Ministry of Railways’ policy regarding ‘Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal’ (GCT), the Asansol Division of Indian Railways has successfully commissioned private siding of Maithan Power Limited at Thaparnagar, Jharkhand, informed the Ministry of Railways.
This is the first Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) commissioned in the Indian Railways network since the launch of the GCT policy in December 2021. This will enhance railways’ earnings by approximately Rs. 11 crores per month.
Indian Railways will set up around 500 multi-modal cargo terminals under the PM GATI-SHAKTI programme within 4-5 years, in line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision of “Gati Shakti” and the Railway Ministry’s Policy regarding GCT.
India emerges as largest importer of arms in 2017-21: SIPRI Report
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released its latest report on Trends in International Arms Transfer, 2021, released in March 2022, reveals that India and Saudi Arabia had emerged as the largest arms importers of arms between 2017-21, each accounting for 11% of all global arms sales.
Largest Arms Exporters in 2017-21: USA, with 39% share, retained its standing as the world’s largest arms exporters during 2017-21.
N Chandrasekaran appointed as chairman of Air India
Tata Sons executive chairman N Chandrasekaran has been officially named as the chairman of Air India, the airline which was acquired by Tata Group from the central government last year.
In February 2022, N Chandrasekaran was reappointed as chairman of Tata Sons for a second term of five years. Tata Sons will soon announce a new MD and CEO for Air India to replace Ilker Ayci who was to take charge next month but resigned in the wake of controversies regarding his appointment.
Ranjit Rath appointed as Chairman & MD of Oil India Ltd.
Government head-hunter PESB has decided to appoint Ranjit Rath as Chairman & MD of Oil India Ltd. Ranjit Rath will head India’s second-largest state oil and gas producer, Oil India Ltd.
He will replace current chairman and managing director Sushil Chandra Mishra, who will superannuate on June 30, 2022. Presently Rath is the chairman and managing director of Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (MECL).

Lakshya Sen Clinches Silver Medal at German Open (Badminton) 2022
Indian Shuttler Lakshya Sen settled for silver after losing to Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand, 18-21, 15-21, in the men’s singles final at the German Open 2022. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has congratulated shuttler Lakhshay Sen on winning silver at the German Open 2022.
Lakshya Sen becomes the 1st Indian to clinch Silver medal at the Badminton World Federation BWF Super series 300 German Open 2022.

Labour Minister Bhupendra Yadav launches Book titled ‘Role of Labour in India’s Development’
Union Minister for Labour and Employment & Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav released a book titled ‘Role of Labour in India’s Development’, on 9th March, 2022 at New Delhi. The Book contains 12 articles written by eminent academicians and practitioners on the contribution of labour in India’s development journey.
The book has been published by the V V Giri National Labour Institute, Noida, under the Ministry of Labour of Government of India.

Former Zambian President Rupiah Banda passes away at 85
Former Zambian President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, 85, died at home after a short battle with colon cancer, his family and the presidency said.
Banda, Zambia’s fourth president who was in power from 2008 to 2011, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and had been receiving medical treatment.
