MoRTH launches “Rewarding Scheme for Grant of Award to the Good Samaritan”

Recently, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued Guidelines for the Scheme for grant of Award to the Good Samaritan who has saved the life of a victim from a fatal accident involving a motor vehicle. The scheme aims to motivate the general public to help the victims of road accidents in an emergency situation, as well as inspire and motivate others to save innocent lives on the road.

Under this Good Samaritan scheme, a cash award of Rs. 5,000 per incident will be given to those who save the life of a road accident victim by administering immediate assistance and rushing him/her to the hospital within the ‘golden hour’ of the mishap, i.e. within 60 minutes of the incident, to provide medical treatment. An individual Good Samaritan can be awarded maximum 5 times in a year. 

The Scheme would come into effect from October 15, 2021. The Scheme would be effective w.e.f 15th of October, 2021. Details of the Scheme are available on the Ministry’s Portal.

Department of Biotechnology launches India’s first ‘One Health’ consortium in post-COVID times

The Department of Biotechnology, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, on Thursday launched India’s first mega consortium on ‘One Health’. The ‘One Health’ project was launched by Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, DBT through video conferencing.

The Consortium is comprised of 27 organizations and will be led by the DBT-National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad.

The ‘One Health’ is “where man, animal, plants, and environment are considered complementary to each other for maintaining ‘health of all”.

Ropeway Service

Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh will become the first Indian city to use ropeway services in public transportation. Overall, Varanasi will be the third city in the world after Bolivia and Mexico City to use ropeway in public transportation. The total cost of the ropeway project is Rs 424 crore. The total distance of 4.2 km will be covered in just 15 minutes. The cost of the project will be divided between the Centre and the state government at 80:20.

Assam launches app ‘Fishwaale’, India’s first e-fish market

The app named Fishwaale has been launched in Assam and it is India’s first e-fish market. Assam launched App Fishwaale, India’s first e-fish market.

Launching the App developed by Aqua Blue Global Aquaculture Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with the Fisheries department Suklabaidya said the App, a one-stop solution for Aquaculture, will help the buyers and sellers to place orders and sell fish online. He exuded the optimism that it will help the fish farming community to get rea.

RBI grants small finance bank licence to Unity SFB

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a Small Finance Bank (SFB) licence to the consortium of Centrum Financial Services Limited (Centrum) and BharatPe.  “A new bank license has been issued after a gap of nearly 6 years, and we thank the RBI for the confidence shown in the abilities of Centrum and BharatPe,” Centrum said in a regulatory filing.

The Unity Small Finance Bank will take over the assets and liabilities of Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank. RBI had given in-principle approval to Centrum Financial Services Limited to set up a small finance bank in June 2021.

Punjab National Bank launches ‘6S Campaign’ under customer outreach programme

Punjab National Bank (PNB) launched the ‘6S Campaign’ under customer outreach programme to extend financial services at a concessional rate during the festival season.

The ‘6S Campaign’ encapsulates different schemes such as – Swabhiman, Samruddhi, Sampark and Shikhar, Sankalp, and Swagat. It is a financial inclusion campaign.

Airtel, Ericsson conducts India’s first rural 5G trial

Bharti Airtel and Ericsson conducted India’s first 5G network trial in a rural location in the first week on October 2021. The demonstration took place in Bhaipur Bramanan village on the outskirts of Delhi/NCR using a 5G trial spectrum allocated to Airtel by the Department of Telecom.

Satya Nadella-led Microsoft team wins 2021 C.K. Prahalad Award

Indian American Satya Nadella, the Microsoft CEO, is among the corporate leaders to receive this year’s prestigious C K Prahlad award for Global Business Sustainability Leadership, along with three other top leaders of Microsoft.

Apart from Nadella, Microsoft’s President and Vice-Chair Brad Smith, Chief financial officer Amy Hood and chief environment officer Lucas Joppa have shared the award for Global Business Sustainability Leadership.

Four of Microsoft’s top leaders — Nadella along with its president and vice-chair Brad Smith, chief financial officer Amy Hood and chief environment officer Lucas Joppa — received the prestigious honour for their collaborative leadership aimed at transforming Microsoft into a carbon negative company by 2030 and to remove all its historical emissions by 2050.

C K Prahlad award for Leadership by an Individual Executive: This award has been given to Ecolab Chairman and former CEO, Douglas M. Baker, Jr. for his efforts to educate the business community about corporate responsibility and the business risks of global water scarcity and the need to account for the true value of water in financial decision making.

Ritesh Chauhan appointed as CEO of PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Senior bureaucrat Ritesh Chauhan has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Joint Secretary, Agriculture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

Chauhan will have a combined tenure of seven years up to September 22, 2023. He is a 2005-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. He will succeed Ashish Kumar Bhutani, who was appointed in 2018.

World Students’ Day: 15 October

World Students’ Day is observed every year on October 15 to mark the birth anniversary of former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

The day is celebrated in honour of the birth anniversary of the former president of India, Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Since 2010, the United Nations Organisation (UNO) has marked October 15 as World Student’s Day in an attempt to acknowledge the efforts of Dr. Kalam toward education and his students. The current year’s (2021) theme of World Students’ Day is “Learning for people, planet, prosperity, and peace“.

2021 marks the 90th birth anniversary of the former president and ‘Missile Man’ Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Global Handwashing Day: 15 October

The Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is observed on 15 October every year. Each year on October 15, Global Handwashing Day highlights the importance of handwashing with soap and water at home, in the community, and around the world.

The day was established by the Global Handwashing Partnership (GHP) (formerly called “Public Private Partnership for Handwashing” (PPPHW)) in 2008

The theme of GHD 2021 is “Our Future Is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together”.

International Day of Rural Women: 15 October

The International Day of Rural Women is observed globally on 15 October each year. The United Nations General Assembly established the day on 18 December 2007 and was observed for the first time in 2008. The day recognizes the crucial role of women and girls in ensuring the sustainability of rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being.

The theme for the International Day of Rural Women (15 October), “Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All”, highlights the essential role that rural women and girls play in the food systems of the world.

In India, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare observes the day as the Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas since 2016, to increase the active participation of women in agriculture.
