Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University in UP’s Aligarh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the work of the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday as he laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University in Aligarh.
Calling it a “big day for Aligarh and West Uttar Pradesh”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his speech by remembering late BJP leader and former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh, who passed away last month.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University at Aligarh, in Uttar Pradesh, on September 14, 2021. The Uttar Pradesh government is establishing the university in memory and honour of noted Jat figure, Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, the great freedom fighter, educationist, and social reformer. The University will be spread over an area of over 92 acres at Lodha village and Musepur Kareem Jarouli village of Kol tehsil in Aligarh and will provide affiliation to 395 colleges of the Aligarh division.
India–Africa Defence Dialogue to be held biennially at every DefExpo
Two years after the first India-Africa Defence Ministers’ Conclave held in February 2020 in Lucknow, India will hold the India-Africa Defence Dialogue on the sidelines of DefExpo in March next year.
India has proposed to make it a regular event, to be held with the biennial DefExpo military exhibition.The Government of India has proposed to institutionalise the India-Africa Defence Dialogue, as a regular event, to be held on the sidelines of the biennial DefExpo military exhibition.
The first India-Africa Defence Ministers Conclave (IADMC) was held at DefExpo in February 2020 in Lucknow.Following this, the second India – Africa Defence Dialogue will be held on the sidelines of the DefExpo, scheduled to be held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat in March 2022.
The Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses in New Delhi, shall be the knowledge partner of India Africa Defence Dialogue to assist in providing necessary support for enhanced defence cooperation between the two countries.Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh will host the Defence Ministers of African Nations at the upcoming India – Africa Defence Dialogue.The theme of 2nd India Africa Defence Dialgue will be ‘India – Africa: Adopting Strategy for Synergizing and Strengthening Defence and Security Cooperation’.
PM Narendra Modi to attend first in-person Quad Summit at White House on September 24
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the first in-person summit of the Quad leaders in Washington on September 24 that is expected to broadly focus on contemporary global challenges including ways to ensure a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.Quad nation comprise of India, Japan, the US and Australia.
PM Modi will also address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 25, 2021.This will be the first visit of PM Modi to the United States since President Joe Biden assumed office and also the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since Biden assumed office.
The Quad Summit aims to deepen ties and increase cooperation in areas such as combatting COVID-19, addressing the climate crisis, partnering on emerging technologies and cyberspace, and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.
RBI announces Opening of Third Cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox- Theme ‘MSME Lending’
he Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the theme for the Third Cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox (RS) as ‘MSME Lending’. The application for the Third Cohort will be kept open from October 01, 2021 to November 14, 2021. With that, the central bank has announced the opening of the application window for the Third Cohort to eligible entities.
These are:
- First Cohort– First Cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox was launched by RBI in December 2020, with the theme as ‘Retail Payments’. Six entities have completed the testing phase of the cohort.
- Second Cohort– Second Cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox was announced by RBI in December 2020 with the theme as ‘Cross Border Payments’. Eight entities have been selected for the ‘Test Phase’.
India and Singapore to link their Fast Payment Systems – Unified Payments Interface and PayNow
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Tuesday announced a project to link their respective fast payment systems — Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and PayNow — to facilitate instant, low-cost, cross-border fund transfer.
The linkage will enable users of each of the two fast payment systems to make fund transfer from India to Singapore and vice versa using UPI and PayNow. The linkage is targeted for operationalisation by July 2022.
PayNow is the fast payment system of Singapore which enables peer-to-peer funds transfer service.The linkage builds upon the earlier efforts of NPCI International Private Limited (NIPL) and Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) to foster cross-border interoperability of payments using cards and QR codes, between India and Singapore.
DBS Bank partners with SWIFT to launch real-time cross-border payment tracking
DBS has launched real-time online tracking for cross-border collections for businesses in India in partnership with SWIFT Global Payments Innovation (gpi), the bank said on Monday.
DBS said it is the first bank in India and Asia-Pacific to offer this service to clients, which is expected to benefit close to 4,000 corporate and small business clients in India, with numbers expected to grow further.The service can be availed using the bank’s corporate online banking platform ‘DBS IDEAL’.

Paytm Payments Bank launches India’s first FASTag-based metro parking facility in Delhi
Paytm Payments Bank on Monday said it has launched the country’s first FASTag-based Metro parking facility, in partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Paytm Payments Bank will be the acquiring bank to facilitate the processing of all FASTag-based transactions for cars having a valid FASTag sticker.The parking facility is also the first to accept payment via the UPI (unified payments interface) mode, which has been launched for two-wheeler vehicles, entering the parking site.

- British author Susanna Clarke has won the 2021 Women’s Prize for Fiction for her second novel Piranesi.

Pawan Goenka appointed as chairperson of In-SPACe
Former managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra Pawan Kumar Goenka has been appointed as the chairperson of Indian National Space Promotion Authorization Centre (In-SPACe) the regulator for India’s space industry.
The IN-SPACe is an independent nodal agency under the Department of Space (DOS), ISRO, set up in 2020, for allowing space activities, like developing launch vehicles and satellites, and usage of DOS owned facilities to build them to both public and private firms in India.

Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe Announces Retirement From International Cricket
Former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor on Sunday announced his retirement from international cricket and stated that his final match in the national colours will the ODI against Ireland on Monday. He made the announcement while playing third final ODI match on September 13, 2021, against Ireland.
The 34-year batsman made his ODI debut for Zimbabwe in 2004 against Sri Lanka.
He has scored 6677 runs from 204 ODI matches in his 17-year ODI career.

National Engineer’s Day: 15 September
India celebrates Engineer’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest Indian Engineer, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, on September 15 every year. Engineer’s Day is celebrated to pay rich tributes to Bharat Ratna Visvesvaraya who was regarded as the ‘Father of Modern Mysore’.

The day marks the birth anniversary of the engineering pioneer of India, Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya, (popularly known as Sir MV). Sir MV was regarded as the “Father of Modern Mysore”.He was awarded ‘Bharat Ratna’ for his exceptional contribution to the building of India in 1955.
World Lymphoma Awareness Day: 15 September
The World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WLAD) is observed globally on September 15 every year. The day is dedicated to raising awareness about lymphoma and the particular emotional and psychosocial challenges facing patients and caregivers suffering from different forms of lymphoma. WLAD is a global initiative, initiated in 2004 by the Lymphoma Coalition (LC), a non-profit network organisation of 83 lymphoma patient groups from 52 countries around the world.

World Lymphoma Day was initiated in 2002 by the Lymphoma Coalition(link is external), a worldwide network of 83 lymphoma patient groups based in Ontario, Canada, whose mission is enabling global impact by fostering a lymphoma ecosystem that ensures local change and evidence-based action. One of their key activities is to provide a centralised hub of reliable current information and a platform for member organisations to share resources, best practices, policies and procedures.
Super 30 founder Anand Kumar conferred with Swami Brahmanand Award 2021
Mathematician Anand Kumar was Monday conferred with the Swami Brahmanand Award 2021 for his contribution in the field of education through his ‘Super 30’ initiative, which prepares underprivileged students for the IIT entrance exam. He received the award from professor Roop Kishore Shastri, the vice-chancellor of Haridwar’s Gurukula Kangri deemed university, at a function in the Rath area of Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The award carrying Rs 10,000 in cash, a bronze medal, a bronze statue of Swami Brahmanand and a certificate is given every year to people who have done special work in the education sector or for the welfare of the cow.
About the award:
- It has been instituted in the name of Swami Brahmananda, a freedom fighter, former MP and a saint known for his sacrifices and his contribution in the field of education.
- Friederike Irina Bruening, a German national, who has devoted her life to sick and abandoned cows in Mathura, received the first Swami Brahmanand Award for cow protection in 2019.
- Bruening, who is also known as Sudevi Dasi, is also a recipient of Padma Shri. In 2020, the award went to academician Dr Arun Kumar Pandey, who worked to strengthen India’s cultural and educational bonding in South Korea.
