Indian Army Conducts First Hackathon Sainya Ranakshetram
Indian army has conducted a first-of-its-kind Hackathon named “Sainya Ranakshetram” from Oct 01, 2021 to Dec 31, 2021, to showcase the technological side of the Army and promote proficiency and expertise in the use of emerging technologies. The hackathon was conducted in the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow under the overall guidance of the Shimla-based Army Training Command (ARTRAC), one of the seven commands of the Indian Army.
The event comprised of a number of challenges based on three themes namely Secure Coding, Software Defined Radio exploitation and Cyber Offensive skills. It had prizes upto Rs 15 lakhs.
Sandeep Bakhshi named Business Standard Banker of the Year 2020-21
The managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of ICICI Bank Mr Sandeep Bakhshi has been named as the Business Standard Banker of the Year 2020-21.
For 2020-21, ICICI Bank reported a net profit of Rs 16,193 crore against Rs 7,931 crore during the previous financial year.
Sandeep Bakhshi assumed the charge in October 2018 and has played an important role in turning around the private sector lender and changing the perception. A high-profile jury of five members took this unanimous decision and jury was headed by the former Reserve Bank of India deputy governor S S Mundra.
Government further extends deadline for PLI Scheme for Textiles till 28.02.2022
The government has notified the extension of the due date for submission of applications under the PLI Scheme for Textiles . The Ministry of Textiles has further extended the timeline for submission of applications under the PLI Scheme for Textiles till 28.02.2022. Earlier this deadline was 31st January 2022, and was extended till 14th February 2022.
Some facts about PLI Scheme for Textiles:
- The government in December had approved the PLI scheme for textiles, with an approved outlay of ₹10,683 crore for five years to promote production of MMF apparel, MMF fabrics and products of technical textiles.
- The scheme will be in operation from September 24, 2021 to March 31, 2030. The incentive under the scheme will be payable for five years.
- The Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) chaired by the Cabinet Secretary will monitor the progress of this PLI scheme;

Paisabazaar.com, a digital platform for consumer credit, has partnered with RBL Bank Limited to offer ‘Paisa on Demand’ (PoD), a credit card that will be exclusively available on the Paisabazaar platform. To build products that offer integrated services for the large under-served segments across India. This is the third product under Paisabazaar’s neo-lending strategy.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs allocates Rs. 2.26 Crores for Telangana’s Medaram Jatara Festival 2022
Ministry of Tribal Affairs sanctioned Rs. 2.26 Crores for Telangana’s Medaram Jatara Festival 2022: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has allocated an amount of 2.26 Crores for various activities pertaining to Medaram Jathara 2022. The Medaram Jathara 2022 will be celebrated between 16th February and 19th February 2022.
Medaram Jatara is the second-largest fair in India, after the Kumbh Mela. The four-day tribal festival is celebrated once in two years in the month of “Magha” (February) on the full moon day, in Medaram Village of Mulugu district in Telangana.
The festival is organized by the second-largest Tribal Community of Telangana, the Koya tribe, in collaboration with the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Telangana.
IAS Officer Vineet Joshi takes over Chairman of CBSE
On February 14, 2022, the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) announced its new chairman – IAS Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education. Joshi replaced IAS Manoj Ahuja.
Mr Joshi, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, is an Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, under Ministry of Education. He replaces IAS Manoj Ahuja, who has been appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Vineet Joshi is also the Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). In 2010 as well he got the responsibility of CBSE chairman.
Israel becomes the first-ever country to allow drones in civilian airspace
Israel becomes the first-ever country to allow drones in civilian airspace. Referring to this, Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety recently announced the country’s first certification for unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs) to operate in civilian airspace. This means that the drones in Israel will be allowed to fly in civilian airspace, just like any other civilian airliner, rather than being restricted to unsegregated airspace.
As per the reports, the certification was issued to the Hermes Starliner unmanned system by the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), and was manufactured and developed by Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense electronics company. Hermes Starliner drone will fly in civilian airspace for the benefit of agriculture, environment, fight against crime, the people, and the economy.
Dabur becomes first Indian plastic waste neutral FMCG company in India
Indian fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Dabur has become India’s first plastic waste-neutral company, meaning it collects, processes and recycles as much packaging as it sells. It has done this by collecting, processing and recycling around 27,000 metric tonnes of post-consumer plastic waste during FY21-22. Dabur has achieved the landmark of surpassing its plastic packaging usage with recycling.
Dabur has also announced the launch of a new ‘Save the Environment’ campaign in Himachal Pradesh to create awareness within communities on managing plastic waste within their households.
Vedanta forms JV with Foxconn to manufacture semiconductors in India
Vedanta Group and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) on Monday announced the signing of an memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a joint venture company that will manufacture semiconductors in India. The Indian mining major Vedanta has inked an MoU with Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company, Hon Hai Technology Group (better known as Foxconn) to form a joint venture (JV) for manufacturing semiconductors in India.
Vedanta is the first company to make an announcement to invest in semiconductor manufacturing after the government announced a Rs 76,000 crore programme to boost the electronic chip and display ecosystem in the country. Vedanta will be majority shareholder in the JV while Foxconn will hold minority share. Anil Agarwal, the non-executive Chairman of Vedanta, will be the Chairman of the JV company.
India ranks third globally in LEED Certified Green Buildings outside US in 2021
India has been ranked third in the world in the US Green Building Council’s annual list of top 10 nations and areas outside of the United States for LEED-certified green buildings in 2021. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, and provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings.
India has a total of 146 LEED certified buildings and spaces, representing nearly 2.8 million gross area square meters (GSM) of space. This marks a nearly 10% increase in LEED certified space in India from 2020. India ranks third on the list behind China topped the list with more than 14 million GSM and Canada which certified more than 3.2 million GSM. Though the United States is not included in the list but remains the world’s largest market for LEED with more than 26 million GSM certified during the year.
Legendary singer and music composer Bappi Lahiri passes away
Legendary music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri passed away. He was 69. The singer breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital. Lahiri died on Tuesday night at the CritiCare Hospital in Juhu. He was lovingly called Bappi Da in the industry is known for delivering iconic songs in several films of the late 1970s-80s like Chalte Chalte, Disco Dancer, and Sharaabi. His last Bollywood song was Bhankas for the 2020 film Baaghi 3.
The singer is known for his gold chains. His real name was Alokesh Lahiri. He joined BJP in 2014. He was declared a BJP candidate from Srerampur (Lok Sabha constituency) in West Bengal for the 2014 Indian general election and lost.
International Childhood Cancer Day 2022
Every year, February 15 is observed as International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) to raise awareness about the evil that entails this issue and the ways to deal with the same. The Day is a global collaborative campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer, and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families.
The most common types of childhood cancers include leukemias, brain cancer, lymphomas, solid tumours, such as neuroblastoma, Wilms tumour and bone tumours. The day promotes increased appreciation and deeper understanding of issues and challenges relevant to childhood cancer and impacting on children/adolescents with cancer, the survivors, their families and the society as a whole. It also spotlights the need for more equitable and better access to treatment and care for all children with cancer, everywhere.
The theme for international happening is the continuation (second year) of the three-year campaign for ICCD (2021-2023) — ‘Better Survival’ is achievable #throughyourhands “Right care at the right time by the right team.”
