Tapan Singhel reappointed as MD & CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance
Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has announced a five-year extension for its MD and CEO, Tapan Singhel. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance said in a statement that the new term will begin on April 1, 2022. Under Singhel’s leadership, the company has grown to become one of the country’s largest and most profitable private general insurers, ensuring growth, profitability, and customer-centricity.
The new term of Mr Singhel will begin from April 1, 2022. Its worth noting that Singhel has already completed 10 years as the MD & CEO of the company.
Katalin Novak becomes first women to be elected as President of Hungary
The Hungarian parliament has elected Katalin Novak, a close ally of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, as the EU member’s first-ever female president. Novak, who most recently served as a minister for family policy, portrayed her election as a victory for women. The 44 year-old Novak won the 2022 Presidential election by a two-thirds majority.
She won 72.87% of the overall voting or 137 seats out of the total 199 seats. Katalin Novák will take over the new role from May 2022. She will succeed Janos Ader.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced India’s star all-format batter Shreyas Iyer and White Ferns all-rounder Amelia Kerr were voted ICC Players of the Month for February 2022.
Among the women category, New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr bagged the ICC ‘Women’s Player of the Month’ award for February 2022.
Power Minister RK Singh inaugurates India’s first Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Centre in Manesar
Union Minister for Power R.K. Singh launched the Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Center (SGKC) and Innovation Park virtually as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Programme. The Virtual SGKC will give a digital footprint of the physical setup of SGKC, established by POWERGRID in 2018 at its centre in Manesar, Haryana.
Virtual SGKC is housed within the POWERGRID centre in Manesar and the solutions which are physically present at SGKC premises will also be hosted on this platform.
The Virtual SGKC is conceptualized and developed by POWERGRID with support from Ministry of Power and technical supoort from USAID. The new initiative will prove to be one of the leading Centers of Excellence globally to foster innovation, entrepreneurship and research in smart grid technologies.
India approves US$1 bn line of credit for Sri Lanka to help pay for key imports
The Government of India has approved USD 1 billion line of credit (LoC) for Sri Lanka, to help the Island nation for importing food, essential items and medicine. Sri Lankan Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa is visiting India on March 15, 2022 to seal the deal.

National Vaccination Day 2022: 16 March

Former Andhra Pradesh Governor ‘Ms Kumudben Joshi’ passes away
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of former Andhra Pradesh Governor and Union Minister, Ms Kumudben Joshi. She was 88.
Ms. Joshi served as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 26 November 1985 to 7 February 1990. She was the second female Governor of the state after Sharda Mukherjee. Joshi had been a member of the Rajya Sabha thrice
International Kabaddi star Sandeep Singh Nangal passes away after being shot dead
Renowned international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal was shot dead during an ongoing tournament match at Jalandhar’s Mallian Khurd on Monday evening, March 14. He was 40.
As per the reports, Sandeep was shot dead during a kabaddi tournament in Jalandhar, Punjab. Besides being a regular member of the Indian national team, Sandeep was a frequent player in leagues in UK, US, New Zealand, Australia.
WWE legend Razor Ramon passes away at 63
Former wrestler and World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer Scott Hall, who reached stardom as “Razor Ramon” during the heyday of his career in the 1990s, has died, according to the WWE. He was 63.
His tenure with World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) began in May 1992. With WWE, he was famously known by his ring name as ‘Razor Ramon’. He went on to become a four-time WWE Intercontinental champion.
RBI barred Paytm Payments Bank from adding new customers
RBI has barred Paytm Payments Bank from opening new accounts or adding new subscribers with immediate effect. RBI has also directed Paytm Payments Bank to appoint an IT audit firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of its IT system.
This action is based on certain material supervisory concerns observed in the bank. Paytm Payments Bank was incorporated in August 2016 and it formally began operations in May 2017.

Bangladesh tops the list in terms of women on board of listed companies in South Asia, as per the study conducted by International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
According to data, there was an increase in the percentage of women who are independent directors on listed companies from 5% in 2020 to 6%, despite COVID-19
2020 IFC-DSE study showed at the time around 18% of listed company board directors were women, which has remained the same.
Pradeep Rawat assumes charge as India’s new ambassador to China
Pradeep Kumar Rawat (1990 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer) has assumed charge as India’s new ambassador to China. He succeeded previous Ambassador Vikram Misri, who has been appointed as Deputy National Security Advisor.
Prior to this, he was India’s ambassador to the Netherlands. His appointment as India’s Ambassador to China comes at a time when both the countries are trying to resolve the longstanding border standoff in eastern Ladakh.
Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt (CGSSD) extended up to 2022
Centre has approved the extension of ‘Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt’ (CGSSD) up to 31st March 2022. CGSSD was launched on 24th June 2020 under Distressed Assets Fund – Subordinate Debt for Stressed MSMEs component of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package.
Aim: Provide credit facility through lending institutions to promoters of stressed MSMEs like SMA-2 and NPA accounts who are eligible for restructuring as per RBI guidelines on the books of the Lending institutions.

RBI lifts interest cap on microfinance institutions
The RBI has released its final guidelines for microfinance loans, lifting an interest cap and allowing companies to have a board-approved policy to price for such lending.
The RBI will continue checking that microfinance institutions do not charge usurious rates. Each entity has to disclose pricing-related information to borrowers in a standardized simplified factsheet. A borrower cannot be charged any amount that has not been explicitly mentioned in the factsheet.
