PM Modi Inaugurates 108 ft tall statue of Lord Hanuman ji in Morbi of Gujarat
On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 108 feet statue of Lord Hanuman in Gujarat’s Morbi on April 16, 2022 via video conferencing. This statue is the second among thefour statues being built in the four directions across the country, as part of the ‘Hanumanji Char Dham’ project.
The first statue of the series was set up in the north in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla in 2010. The work on the third statue, in the south at Rameswaram has started, the PMO informed. The third statue will be set up in the South at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Similarly the final statue will be established in East in West Bengal.
Tamil Nadu beat Punjab in National basketball championship final
Tamil Nadu defeated defending champion Punjab 87-69 in the final to win the men’s title in the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship. The formidable Indian Railways team won the women’s title, beating Telangana 131-82 in convincing fashion, riding on Poonam Chaturvedi’s 26 points.
In the men’s summit clash, Tamil Nadu pulled ahead after a slow start when Punjab kept pace and never looked back. At half-time, the host had widened the lead to 17 with a 50-33 scoreline. An Aravind with 26 points and M Arvind Kumar (21) were in the fine nick for the home team as they stamped their authority against their arch-rival.
Odisha CM unveils logo of 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday unveiled logo of 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, to be held in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. To be held in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the prestigious quadrennial tournament is scheduled from January 13 to 29.
Hockey India and its official partner Odisha will host the marquee event for the second consecutive time in the country after 2018. The 15th edition of the showpiece will be staged in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, where the country’s largest hockey stadium is being constructed.
Phase II of ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ launched to cover 28 lakh street vendors
Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ program in additional 126 cities across 14 States/ UTs, in the presence of senior officials of States/UTs and various Central Ministries. ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ scheme, an additional program of PMSVANidhi was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on January 04, 2021 to be implemented in phased manner.
The SVANidhi se Samriddhi programme maps the socio-economic profile of the PM SVANidhi beneficiaries and their families. Assess the potential eligibility of the beneficiaries for various Central welfare schemes and facilitate the linkages to these schemes.
Phase I: Launched in 2020-21 in 125 cities to cover approximately 35 lakh street vendors and their families.
Phase II: Now MoHUA has launched Phase II of the program in additional 126 cities to cover 28 lakh street vendors and their families.
A total target of 20 lakh scheme sanctions has been set under Phase II for FY 2022-23. The remaining cities would be added to the program gradually.
MyGov launched Sabka Vikas Maha Quiz to promote awareness on schemes
MyGov is organising ‘Sabka Vikas Mahaquiz’ series under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Aim: To create awareness among the citizens about the schemes and initiatives of the government.
The scheme was launched on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar on April 14, 2022.
The first quiz was on Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
Andrew McDonald appointed as Australia’s new head coach
Andrew McDonald has been appointed as the head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team and has signed an agreement for a four-year contract.
McDonald has joined the Australian set up as an assistant in 2019. McDonald takes over the role of Justin Langer who resigned from messy circumstances in February. He led the team to a 1-0 Test series and won praise from Test captain Pat Cummins.

Centre infuses Rs. 5,000 crore into 3 state-run insurance companies- OICL, NICL and UICL
The Centre has raised the authorised capital of three public sector insurance companies – Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL), National Insurance Co. Ltd. (NICL) and United India Insurance Co. Ltd. (UICL) – to enable subscription of capital.
The individual capital infusion in these three insurance company is given below:
- NICL- Rs 3,700 Crore
- OICL- Rs 1,200 Crore
- UICL- Rs 100 Crore
With this, the authorised share capital of these insurance companies has now been increased. The details of new authorised capital is given below:
- Authorized capital of NICL= Rs. 15,000 crore
- Authorized capital of OICL= Rs. 7,500 crore
- Authorized capital of UICL= Rs. 7,500 crore
Authorised share capitals of entities are increased from time to time to enable subscription of capital.
Prabhat Patnaik wins 2022 Malcolm Adiseshiah Award
Well-known Indian economist and political commentator, Prabhat Patnaik has been selected for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022. The award is annually given by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust to an outstanding social scientist selected from nominations received by a specially constituted national jury. The Malcolm Adiseshiah Award is given annually by the Chennai-based Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust since 2000 for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies. The award includes a citation and prize money of Rs 2 lakh.
World Hemophilia Day 2022: 17 April
World Hemophilia Day is observed every year on April 17. The day is aimed to raise awareness about the bleeding disorder of patients suffering from this particular disease. The day is being held since 1989, which marks the birthday of Frank Schnabel, founder of the World Federation of Hemophilia.
April 17, 2022, marks 33rd World Hemophilia Day.
The theme for 2022 World Hemophilia Day is “Access for All: Partnership. Policy. Progress. Engaging your government, integrating inherited bleeding disorders into national policy“.
PM Modi Dedicates K. K. Patel Super Speciality Hospital in Bhuj
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated to the nation, a 200-bed KK Patel Super Speciality Hospital in Bhuj in the Kutch district of Gujarat, via video-conferencing.
This hospital has been built by Shree Kutchi Leva Patel Samaj, Bhuj and is the first charitable super speciality hospital in the Kutch region. It will guarantee quality medical treatment for the people of Kutch including lakhs of soldiers, par military personnel and traders.
This initiative is in line with the policy of the Central government to set up at least one medical college in every district of the country so that India gets a record number of doctors in the next 10 years.
