Gen Bipin Rawat Memorial Chair of Excellence instituted at the United Service Institution of India (USI)
On the eve of the 65th birthday of late Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, the Indian Army has dedicated a Chair of Excellence in his memory at the United Service Institution of India (USI). The purpose of Gen Bipin Rawat Memorial Chair of Excellence at USI will be to conduct research on strategic issues related to the armed forces, with focus on the field of Jointness and Integration.
The Chair will be open to Veterans of three Services and civilians having expertise in the field of National Security.The topic for 2022 research will be Jointness and Integration in the Context of Land Warfare in India.
A cheque of Rs 5 lakhs was handed over to Maj Gen BK Sharma (retd), Director, USI which will be paid as honourarium to the nominated Chair of Excellence.
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited in Odisha becomes largest coal producing company in India
Coal India unit, the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) said it has become the largest coal-producing company in the country. The company said it has crossed 157 million tonnes in coal production in the financial year 2021-22. And, on March 12, the company produced 7.62 lakh tonne of dry fuel. The company claimed that it is the highest production in a day during the current financial year.

Sahitya Akademi publishes book-length poem ‘Monsoon’ by Indian poet-diplomat Abhay K
Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters has published a book-length poem ‘Monsoon’ by Indian poet-diplomat Abhay K. Monsoon is a poem of 150 stanzas of 4 lines each that commence its journey in Madagascar and follows the path of the monsoon invoking the rich flora and fauna, languages, cuisine, music, monuments, landscapes, traditions, myths and legends of the places through which monsoon travels and acts as a messenger to carry the poet’s message from Madagascar to his beloved in Srinagar in the Himalayas.
Sahitya Akademi was established on March 12 in 1954. The first President of Sahitya Akademi was Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The first book published by the Academy was Bhagwan Buddha by D.D. Koshambi in 1956.

M V Ram Prasad Bismil becomes longest vessel to sail on River Brahmaputra
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has achieved a landmark when the motor vessel (MV) Ram Prasad Bismil became the longest vessel ever to sail on the Brahmaputra river on Tuesday.
The 90 meters long flotilla is 26 meters wide, loaded with a draft of 2.1 meters, successfully completed the aspiring pilot run of heavy cargo movement from Haldia Dock in Kolkata after it anchored at Pandu port in Guwahati.
The cargo vessel was flagged off from the Haldia Dock in Kolkata along with two barges (DB Kalpana Chawla and DB APJ Abdul Kalam) by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (PSW), Sarbananda Sonowal on February 16, 2022 and docked at Pandu port in Guwahati on March 15, 2022. Carrying 1793 metric tonnes of steel rods, the vessel covered the distance from Haldia to Pandu through Bangladesh on the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR).
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurates India’s first Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) Toyota Mirai
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday launched India’s first green hydrogen-based advanced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV), Toyota Mirai, and said this is the first-of-its-kind project in India that aims to create an ecosystem for such vehicles in the country. Toyota Mirai is India’s first Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), which is completely powered by Hydrogen.
Toyota Mirai has been launched by Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd and International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) under a pilot project, to study and evaluate the performance of Toyota Mirai on Indian roads and climatic conditions. This is a first of its kind project in India which will create a Green Hydrogen based ecosystem in the country and help India to become ‘Energy Self-reliant’ by 2047.
2022 FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai
India has been picked as the host nation for the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022. The 44th edition of the Olympiad is scheduled to be held in Chennai, The tentative dates for FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 are 26th July 2022 to 8th August 2022.
This is thefirst time that India will host the FIDE Chess Olympiad since its inception in 1927. The event was originally scheduled to be held in Russia, but FIDE pulled out from there following the Ukraine invasion.

India approve line of credit for Sri Lanka to help pay for key import
Govt of India has approved $ 1 billion line of credit (LoC) for Sri Lanka to help the Island nation for importing food, essential items and medicine. Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe economic crisis.
LoC is being extended by India in line with its efforts to assist its neighbouring country in fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and to mitigate its adverse impact and its developmental priorities.

The 17th Annual Conference on ‘Road Development in India’
