Piyush Goyal virtually inaugurates divisional office at Hubballi, Karnataka

To celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and its glorious history as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goyal virtually inaugurated the office building, Divisional Office Hubballi in Karnataka and Food Security Museum at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu along with a Photo Exhibition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Purvanchal Expressway at KarwalKheri in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 16, 2021, inaugurated the 341-km Purvanchal Expressway at KarwalKheri in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh after landing on the highway airstrip in an IAF C-130 Hercules plane. It will connect Lucknow with Ghazipur.

The 341-km long Purvanchal Express has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 22,500 crore. The Expressway starts from village Chaudsarai, located on Lucknow-Sultanpur road (NH-731), and ends at village Hydaria located on National Highway No. 31, 18 km east of UP-Bihar border. A 3.2-km long airstrip has also been constructed on the expressway to enable landing and take-off of Indian Air Force fighter planes in case of emergency. 

‘Kaiser-i-Hind’ declared as Arunachal Pradesh’s State Butterfly

State Cabinet of Arunachal Pradesh, headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, approved “Kaiser-i-Hind” as a state butterfly on November 13, 2021.

The Kaiser-i-Hind butterfly is scientifically known as Teinopalpus imperialis. The Kaiser-i-Hind literally means Emperor of India. This species of butterfly has a 90-120 mm wingspan.

They are found in six Indian States along the Eastern Himalayas at elevations from 6,000-10,000 feet in well-wooded terrain. These are Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim, and Manipur.

Apart from this, the butterfly is also found in Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and southern China.

The Reserve Bank introduces Internal Ombudsman mechanism for select Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs)

The Reserve Bank of India has announced to introduce the Internal Ombudsman mechanism for following two types of Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs):

  1. Deposit-taking NBFCs (NBFCs-D) with 10 or more branches and
  2. Non-deposit taking NBFCs with assets size of ₹5,000 crore must appoint an Internal Ombudsman (IO).

Consequently, these two categories of NBFCs will have to appoint Internal Ombudsman (IO). The internal Ombudsman will be responsible for handling the public grievance at the entity level before the grievance is escalated to Ombudsman at RBI. RBI has given a timeline of six months to the NBFCs for the appointment of the Internal Ombudsman.

Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup title by eight wickets

Australia lifted their maiden T20 World Cup trophy with a commanding eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the title clash which was rendered one-sided by Mitchell Marsh with his blistering 77-run knock, on November 14, 2021, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE. New Zealand had put up the target of 172/4 in their 20 overs match which Australia chased down in 18.5 overs with a loss of only two wickets.

BharatPe to launch Merchant Shareholding Program

BharatPe has launched $100 million worth of World’s 1st Merchant Shareholding Program (MSP) for its merchant partners. Under the program, the company offers its merchant customers an opportunity to buy BharatPe’s equity shares and become a partner. The company plans a public listing by 2024 and targets a public listing value of $1 billion.

Merchant payments and financial services company will roll out the incentive to its more than 7.5 million existing merchant partners.

PM launches key initiatives for welfare of Janjatiya community

The Prime Minister has launched multiple key initiatives for the welfare of the Janjatiya (Tribal) community at Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas Mahasammelan. He also launched ‘Ration Aapke Gram’ scheme and Sickle Cell Mission in Madhya Pradesh.

The mission has been developed to screen and manage patients suffering from sickle cell anaemia, Thalassemia and other Hemoglobinopathies and to increase public awareness about these diseases.

VVS Laxman named as the new head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA)

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on November 14, 2021, confirmed that former India batsman VVS Laxman has been named as the Head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

He is expected to assume the new role before the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to be held in Kolkata on December 4 2021. Laxman will replace Rahul Dravid, who has been appointed as Team India’s national men’s head coach.

Eminent Hindi writer Mannu Bhandari passes away at 90

Renowned writer Mannu Bhandari, a doyen of the ‘Nayi Kahani movement’ in Hindi literature, passed away on Monday, 15 November, at the age of 90.

Bhandari was the wife of illustrious Hindi fiction writer late Rajendra Yadav, often credited to be the pioneer of the Hindi literary movement ‘Nayi Kahani’ along with Bhandari. Some of the well-known works of Bhandari are Aapka Bunty, Mahabhoj, and Yahi Sach Hai. Her novel Yahi Sach Hai was adapted into a movie titled ‘Rajnigandha’ in 1974.

Some of her other notable works include Mahabhoj (1979), Ek Plate Sailab (1962), Teen Nigahen Ek Tasveer (1969), and Trishanku (1999).

World COPD Day

World COPD Day is observed on Third Wednesday of November every year to raise awareness about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and improve COPD care throughout the world. The World COPD Day 2021 falls on November 17, 2021.

The 2021 theme is Healthy Lungs – Never More Important.

National Epilepsy Day

National Epilepsy Day is observed on 17 November annually to spread awareness about epilepsy disease. Do you know what is epilepsy.
