World’s largest Khadi National Flag displayed along India–Pakistan border on Army Day 2022

The Monumental National Flag, which is the world’s largest national flag made of Khadi fabric, was put to a grand public display at Longewala, along the India Pakistan Border in Jaisalmer to celebrate “Army Day” on 15 January 2022.

The Monumental National Flag measures 225 feet long, 150 feet wide and weighs around 1,400 kg. It took 49 days for 70 Khadi artisans to prepare this flag. Longewala is in the western Jaisalmer district. It was the site of the iconic Battle of Longewala in 1971, which was fought between the India and Pakistan.

Dubai’s stunning Infinity Bridge now open for the first time: The iconic ‘Infinity Bridge’ in Dubai, United Arab Emirates has been oped now to traffic for the first time on January 16, 2022.

The bridge is named ‘Infinity’ as its design resembles the mathematical sign for infinity (∞). It also represents limitless, infinite goals of Dubai. The bridge consists of six lanes in each directions and a combined 3-metre track for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is It is 300 metres long and 22 metres wide. The bridge is built over Dubai Creek and can accommodate 24,000 vehicles in both directions each hour. It shall connect Deira to Bur Dubai and vice-versa.

Apart from this, Indian duo Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy defeated Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia, 21-16, 26-24 in the men’s doubles, to win  their first-ever Indian Open finals.

Mrs World 2022: Mrs America Shaylyn Ford Takes The Crown

37 Years old Shaylyn Ford was crowned as the winner of Mrs World 2022. She was crowned by the outgoing queen Kate Schneider from Ireland. Mrs. Jordan Jaclyn Stapp was voted first runner-up at the glamourous event in Las Vegas, while Debanjali Kamstra, who was representing the UAE for the first time in the pageant’s history, was named second runner-up.

Shaylyn Ford represented America in the pageant and battled out 57 other contestants from across the globe to claim the title. This is the 8th time an American representative won the title of Mrs. World.

About Shaylyn Ford: Shaylyn Ford hails from Granville, Ohio, USA. She won the annual Mrs American pageant on November 19, 2021. She is a professional makeup artist, who has worked in every setting, from movie sets to make-a-wish projects. Kerala’s Kumbalanghi to be India’s first sanitary-napkin free village

Kumbalangi in Ernakulam, Kerala will be the first-ever sanitary napkin-free village in the country. The announcement will be made by Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan on January 13. The achievement is part of a unique campaign underway in Ernakulam constituency. This move is a part of the ‘Avalkayi’ initiative, which is being implemented in the Ernakulam parliamentary constituency, in association with the “Thingal Scheme” of HLL Management Academy’s and Indian Oil Corporation. Under this initiative, menstrual cups will be distributed to women aged 18 and above in Kumbalangi village. 5000 menstrual cups will be distributed under it.

In the same event, Governor will also declare Kumbalangi village as a model village. The model village project is implemented as a part of ‘Pradhan Mantri Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (PM-SAGY)’. A new tourist information centre will also be set up in the village.

About Kumbalangi: Kumbalangi is an island village, located in the outskirts of Kochi city of Kerala. It is a major tourist attraction and is famous for the Chinese fishing nets. It is situated amidst backwaters, about 12 km from the city centre. The village is also the first eco-tourism village in India.

RBI released Annual Report of Ombudsman Schemes, 2020-21

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the Annual Report of the Ombudsman Schemes for the year 2020-21, which has been prepared for the nine-month period, i.e., July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, in alignment with the change in the Financial Year of RBI from ‘July – June’ to ‘April – March’ with effect from July 1, 2020. The Annual Report covers the activities under the Banking Ombudsman Scheme, 2006 (BOS), the Ombudsman Scheme for Non-Banking Financial Companies, 2018 (OSNBFC) and the Ombudsman Scheme for Digital Transactions, 2019 (OSDT).

Key Findings:

Major areas of complaints: Under the scheme, major areas of complaints are related to ATM or debit cards, mobile or electronic banking and credit cards. This area collectively accounted for 42.74 per cent of the total complaints. This year, RBI changed the reporting period to April-March.

Cricketing great and former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd was given the knighthood for his service towards the game of cricket. Sir Clive was joined in the ceremony by England white-ball Captain Eoin Morgan, who was honoured with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

The CBE is the highest-ranking Order of the British Empire award, followed by OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) and then MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).

Odisha-based social worker Shanti Devi has passed away at the age of 88. She was awarded the Padma Shri award. She was remembered as the voice of the poor.

Former Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has died, Malian state media channel ORTM reported on Sunday. He was 76.

Mr Keita had ruled Mali for seven years, since September 2013, till he was overthrown in a military coup in August 2020. He had also served as prime minister of the country from 1994 to 2000.
