Taliban Warns Indian Military to Not Support Afghan Govt
India is welcome to continue its aid and reconstruction work in Afghanistan after a government with the Taliban comes to power. But recently Taliban warns Indian military to not support Afghan government.
The Taliban who refer to themselves as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), is a Deobandi Islamist movement and military organization in Afghanistan.
From 1996 to 2001, the Taliban held power over roughly three-quarters of Afghanistan, and enforced a strict interpretation of Sharia, or Islamic law.
The Northern Alliance fought a defensive war against the Taliban government. They received support from India, Iran, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan and others, while the Taliban were backed, armed & trained by Pakistan Army.
The US invaded Afghanistan, providing support to Northern Alliance troops on the ground in a two-month war against the Taliban, which they won in December 2001.
Prime Minister conveyed grief over Vidisha tragedy
Prime Minister Modi conveyed grief over Vidisha tragedy in Madhya Pradesh where at least four people were killed after falling into a 40-feet-deep well.
Vidisha (formerly known as Bhelsa and known as Besnagar in ancient times) is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
The name “Vidisha” is derived from the nearby river “Bais”, mentioned in the Puranas.
Vidisha is considered to be Puranakshetras Jain tirtha. Vidisha is believed to be the birthplace of Shitalanatha, the tenth tirthankar.
The Heliodorus pillar is a stone column that was erected around 113 BCE in central India in Besnagar (near Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh). The pillar was called the Garuda-standard by Heliodorus, referring to the deity Garuda.
Ministry of Electronics & IT enabled map services in UMANG App
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has integrated services of domestic navigation company MapmyIndia to help people locate government facilities on the digital maps. Ministry of Electronics & IT has enabled map services in “UMANG App ” through an MOU with MapmyIndia.
The service will enable people to find government facilities like Mandis, Blood Banks etc. near their location. With the newly launched map service people can easily navigate through visual and voice directions.
The UMANG mobile app (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is a Government of India single, unified, secure, multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile app, providing access to high impact services of various organizations (Central and State).
Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi had launched the UMANG App in 2017.
Government inaugurated oxygen plant at Bilaspur in Rampur
The Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi inaugurated one of the six medical oxygen plants, installed by Radico Khaitan in various parts of Uttar Pradesh, at the Community Health Centre, Bilaspur in Rampur.
These six medical oxygen plants, with a capacity of 20 cubic meter medical oxygen generation per hour, are being installed by Radico Khaitan in Community Health Centres at Bilaspur (Rampur), Bilhaur (Kanpur), Bhagwantpur (Prayagraj), Mahoba (Mahoba), Manjhanpur (Kaushambi) and Manikpur (Chitrakut).
Radico Khaitan Ltd. is an Indian company that manufactures industrial alcohol, Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), country liquor and fertilizers. It is the fourth largest Indian liquor company.
FedEx invests $100 mn in Delhivery ahead of IPO
FedEx Express has agreed to invest $100 million in logistics services provider Delhivery, one of India’s unicorn startups that are set to go public soon.
As part of the agreement, FedEx Express will enter into a long-term commercial pact with SoftBank-backed Delhivery.

Kisan Sarathi launched to facilitate farmers to get ‘right information at right time’
Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar and Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw jointly launched the digital platform namely ‘KisanSarathi’ in order to facilitate farmers to get ‘right information at right time’ in their desired language.
With the digital platform, the farmers can interact and avail personalised advisories on agriculture and allied areas directly from the respective scientists of KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVKs).

New Projects for Rejuvenation of 6 Polluted River Stretches in Uttarakhand
The Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra chaired the 36th Executive Committee meeting of NMCG and approved new projects for rejuvenation of 6 polluted river stretches in Uttarakhand.
The project shall cover the 6 polluted river stretches in the Kumaon region. These 6 Rivers are Bhela, Dhela, Kichha, Kosi, Nandhore, Pilakhar and Kashipur.
Out of the rest 3 polluted stretches, project of Ganga at Jagjeetpur, Haridwar has already been commissioned and on the remaining two, Namami Gange projects are already under execution.
With this project, all the polluted stretches in the state of Uttarakhand have been covered under pollution abatement projects.
An important and progressive feature of the project is comprehensive sludge management arrangements and provision for co-treatment of septage in all these STPs.
Jurisdiction of Krishna & Godavari River Management Boards
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has notified the jurisdiction of Godavari River Management Board and Krishna River Management Board.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014 (APRA) contains provisions for the effective management of river waters in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Constitution of the Godavari and Krishna River Management Boards and the constitution of an Apex Council for the supervision of the functioning of these Boards, is laid down in this Act.
The Central Government in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 85 of the APRA, 2014, constituted the two River Management Boards effective from 2nd June, 2014
In accordance with the provisions under Section 87 of APRA, 2014, Government of India has issued two gazette notifications, one for the jurisdiction of GRMB and the other for KRMB, for administration, regulation, maintenance and operation of projects in Godavari and Krishna river basins respectively, in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

9th Integrated Ratings of State Power Distribution utilities and Rankings
Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, R.K. Singh recently released 9th Integrated Ratings for State Power Distribution Utilities.
The Minister appreciated that the Ninth Annual Integrated Rating exercise covering 41 State Power Distribution Utilities for the rating period FY 2019-20 has been completed with the enthusiastic participation of all the utilities.
The exercise presently covers 41 States distribution utilities spread across 22 States. ICRA and CARE are the designated credit rating agencies.
The Ninth Integrated Ratings have been carried out by ICRA Analytics Limited (IAL) & CARE Advisory Research & Training Limited (CART), the consulting arms of ICRA ratings and CARE respectively.
Power Ministry has mandated Power Finance Corporation (PFC) to co-ordinate with the utilities, rating agencies & MoP during the rating exercise.
Google Doodle celebrated life of India’s first woman physician
Google recently celebrated the life and work of Dr. Kadambini Ganguly, the first woman to be trained as a physician in India.
Ganguly was also the first woman to get admission to Calcutta Medical College, from which she graduated in 1886.
Kadambini Ganguly was one of the first Indian female doctors who practiced with a degree in Western medicine, alongside other pioneering women such as Anandibai Joshi.
Ganguly was the first woman to gain admission to Calcutta Medical College in 1884, subsequently trained in Scotland, and established a successful medical practice in India.
Kadambini started her education at Banga Mahila Vidyalaya and while at Bethune School (established by Bethune) in 1878 became the first woman to pass the University of Calcutta entrance examination.
It was partly in recognition of her efforts that Bethune College first introduced FA (First Arts), and then graduation courses in 1883.
She and Chandramukhi Basu became the first graduates from Bethune College, and in the process became the first female graduates in the country and in the entire British Empire.
HAL is planning to indigenously design and develop a medium lift helicopter
Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) is planning to indigenously design and develop a medium lift helicopter, the Indian multirole helicopter (IMRH).
It is hopeful of finalising the detailed project report in the next few months and approach the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) by year-end for project sanction.
Once the DPR is ready, the HAL will approach the CCS for project sanction after which funds will be released.
The project is estimated at around ₹10,000 crore, including for the two different versions for the Navy, and will take seven years for design and development.
The HAL currently has a range of indigenous products in the light helicopter category — Advanced Light Helicopter, Light Combat Helicopter and Light Utility Helicopter.
OPEC+ agreed to gradually add more oil supplies to the market
OPEC+ has recently agreed to gradually add more oil supplies to the market, ending a two-week spat between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The agreement means the cartel will boost output by 400,000 barrels a day each month from August, continuing until all of its halted output has been revived.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is an intergovernmental organization or cartel of 13 countries. OPEC+ is an amalgamation of OPEC and 10 other oil-exporting nations such as Russia and Kazakhstan.
OPEC maintained a constant rate of oil production. OPEC+ came into existence in late 2016 as a means for the top oil-exporting nations to exert control over the price of the precious commodity.
