Former CM of Sikkim BB Gurung passes away at 99
Former Chief Minister of Sikkim BB Gurung passed away on Monday. He was 92 years old.
BB Gurung was the third chief minister of Sikkim and had the shortest term in the history of the Himalayan state.
He sworn-in as Sikkim CM in 1984 and was in office for just 13 days. He held office from May 11 until May 24, 1984.
Dwayne Bravo becomes highest wicket-taker in IPL history
Chennai Super Kings, Dwayne Bravo (171) overtook Lasith Malinga (170) to become the highest wicket-taker in IPL History. He made a record against the match of Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai.
Bravo has taken 171 wickets in 153 IPL matches. Malinga had taken 170 wickets in 122 matches for the Mumbai Indians. No. of teams in TATA IPL 2022 : 10

Vishwas Patel re-elected as chairman of PCI
Executive director of Infibeam Avenues Vishwas Patel has been re-elected as chairman of the Payments Council of India (PCI). Payment Council of India is the apex industry for digital operators in India’s payments and settlement system that operates under the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). The PCI was set in 2013 with the aim to promote digital India. Payment Council of India is located in Mumbai.
Centre extends existing foreign trade policy (FTP) by six months untill September 2022
The government is set to extend the validity of the current foreign trade policy (FTP), which provides a road map for boosting external commerce in goods and services, by 6 months through September 30, 2022.
This is the fourth extension given to the existing FTP policy.
Indian official Aprajita Sharma appointed as Vice Chairperson of Council Standing Committee on Administration and Management of ITU
India has secured a leadership position in Council Standing Committee on Administration and Management of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as an Indian official has been appointed as vice chairperson for the same.
Aprajita Sharrma will remain as vice chair for the years 2023 and 2024. After that she will assume the role of Chairperson for the years 2025 and 2026. The decision was taken at the ITU Council meetings held at Geneva from March 21 to 31, 2022.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Karnataka Governor TC Gehlot launches logo, mascot jersey & anthem of Khelo India University Games 2021 in Bengaluru
The Governor of Karnataka, Shri TC Gehlot, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur and several dignitaries launched the logo, jersey, mascot and anthem of the Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG 2021) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
The theme song has been composed by Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty. The KIUG 2021 will be held in Karnataka between April 24 and May 3, 2022. This will be the second edition of KIUG. The first edition was hosted by Odisha in 2020.
Dr. S Raju takes charge as Director General of Geological Survey of India
Dr.S. Raju, Additional Director General and National Mission Head-III and IV, GSI has taken over the charge of Director General (DG) of Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines, anesteemed geoscientific organization in the country on 1, April 2022.
He succeeds Shri R. S. Garkhal who superannuated on March 31, 2022. Prior to this, Dr. Raju was holding the post of Additional Director General and National Head, Mission-III & IV at GSI HQ. GSI is a scientific agency of Government of India. It was founded in 1851. Its headquarter is in Kolkata.
Mirabai Chanu wins 2022 ‘BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year’ award
Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has been announced the winner of the third edition of the BBC Indian Sportswoman Of The Year award. Mirabai Chanu created history in 2021 when she became the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Young Indian opening cricketer Shafali Verma received the The ‘BBC Emerging Player’ award. Former weightlifter Karnam Malleswari was presented the ‘BBC Lifetime Achievement’ award.
The BBC ISWOTY is an initiative by the BBC India to celebrate and honour sportswomen from India who have excelled in their respective fields. The first edition of the award took place in 2020, and P. V. Sindhu was the winner.

Since 1967, on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, 2 April, International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books.
IBBY is an international non-profit organization, to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books. Each year a different National Section of IBBY has the opportunity to be the international sponsor of ICBD and decide upon a theme. IBBY Canada is the sponsor for International Children’s Book Day 2022.

Lepakshi Nandi, Veerabhadra temple on World Heritage tentative list
The Sri Veerabhadra Swamy temple was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list with the Monolithic Bull (Nandi) at Lepakshi, Andhra Pradesh.
The Sri Veerabhadra Swamy temple is also known as the Lepakshi temple is dedicated to Veerabhadra (Shiva). The temple is known for the Vijayanagara sculpture and mural painting on the ceiling as traditional art.

CJI N V Ramana launched FASTER
Chief Justice of India, N V Ramana has launched FASTER (Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records), to communicate interim orders, stay orders, bail orders etc, of the Supreme Court to concerned authorities through a secured electronic communication channel.
The aim: Eliminate the delay in to release of inmates even after the Supreme Court grants them bail. A digital platform FASTER was initiated led by CJI Ramana bench.
Best Marching Contingent Trophy to Naval Contingent
The Best Marching Contingent Trophy for Republic Day Parade 2022 to personnel of the Naval Contingent was presented by Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff.
The contingent was led by Lt Cdr Aanchal Sharma with Lt Shubham Sharma as platoon commanders and comprised 96 young sailors.
Uttar Pradesh won the best state tableau for Republic Day 2022 for the showcase of One District One Product and Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
World Autism Awareness Day 2022: 02 April
World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on 2nd April by the member states of the United Nations. The day is observed to raise awareness among its citizens about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout the world.
Theme 2022: Inclusive Quality Education for All. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 18 December 2007. World Autism Day is one of only seven official health-specific UN Days.
ADB provides USD 143 million to Bangladesh
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan package of USD 143 million for Bangladesh to support government efforts to speed up the growth by improving the efficiency, predictability, and security of cross-border trade.
The ADB loan package includes a $90 million International policy-based loan, a $53 million project loan that will construct integrated land customs and $1.5 million in technical assistance

Axis bank acquiring Citibank India business
The US-based Citibank group is selling its India business to Axis Bank for Rs 12,325 crore. The deal will be closed in the mid of the 2023 calendar year. As per the deal, Citibank must exit from consumer franchises in 13 markets, including India.
Currently, Axis Bank is the fourth-largest issuer of credit cards. Citi bank has entered India in 1902 and started the consumer banking business in 1985.
