Tata Power partners Germany’s RWE Renewables GmbH to develop offshore wind projects in India

Tata Power and Germany-based RWE Renewables GmbH have joined hands to explore the potential for joint development of offshore wind projects in India.

An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, and RWE, one of the world’s leaders in offshore wind.

The collaboration comes after the Indian Government set a target of installing 30GW of offshore wind power capacity by 2030 to meet the country’s growing energy demand.

Coal India bags ‘India’s Most Trusted Public Sector Company’ award

State-run Maharatna Coal PSU, Coal India Limited (CIL), under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, has bagged the ‘Public Sector of India’ award at the Energy Meet 2019 & Excellence Awards of ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry). The award was received by Coal India’s Chairman Anil Kumar Jha for Coal India’s contribution and commitment to providing energy security to India and towards the environment on December 20 in a ceremony held in Kolkata.

Coal India has been honored for providing energy security to India and not allowing the situation of power crisis in the country by significantly increasing coal production and supply in the last few months to meet the increased demand for coal for the power sector.

India’s first Biosafety Level-3 mobile laboratory inaugurated in Maharashtra’s Nashik

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Bharati Pravin Pawar inaugurated India’s first Biosafety level-3 containment mobile laboratory in Nashik, Maharashtra.

The mobile laboratory has been set up to investigate newly emerging and re-emerging viral infections that are highly infectious and of lethal potential to human beings, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The newly launched lab will be able to access remote and forested areas of the country, to investigate outbreaks using samples from humans and animal sources.

BoB signs MoU with Assam Rifles to provide ‘Central Forces Salary Package

Bank of Baroda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Assam Rifles to provide ‘Central Forces Salary Package’.

Under the agreement, Bank of Baroda will offer the Baroda Central Forces Salary Package to all personnel of the Assam Rifles, both serving and retired. Further, the Bank will also provide special benefits, including Personal Accident Insurance and a co-branded credit card. Assam Rifles is country’s oldest paramilitary force.

Leather, footwear exports to reach $6 billion in 2022-23: CLE

According to the Council for Leather Exports (CLE), country’s leather and footwear exports are expected cross $6 billion in 2022-23. This is due to increasing demand in the US and new markets such as Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

During April-January this fiscal, leather and leather products exports rose by 33 per cent to $3.6 billion. The exports stood at $3.3 billion in 2020-21 and $4.7 billion in 2019-20.

Om Birla leads Parliamentary delegation to UAE from Feb 21 to 25

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is leading a Parliamentary delegation to the UAE from 21th to 25th February. This is the first-ever visit under the bilateral exchange of Parliamentary Delegations from either side.

The Lok Sabha Speaker will have the rare honour of addressing the Federal National Council of UAE on the 22nd of this month. The Delegation will also visit places of cultural and historical importance in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Bharti Airtel joins SEA-ME-WE-6 undersea cable consortium as major investor; anchoring 20% investment

Bharti Airtel said it has joined the ‘SEA-ME-WE-6’ undersea cable consortium in a bid to scale up its high-speed global network capacity to serve India’s fast-growing digital economy. Airtel will be the major investor in the SEA-ME-WE-6. It shall be anchoring 20 percent of the overall investment in the cable system, which will go live in 2025. SEA-ME-WE-6 stands for South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 6. Through SEA-ME-WE-6, Airtel will be able to add 100 TBps capacity to its global network.

India and Oman begins Eastern Bridge-VI Air Exercise in Jodhpur

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) have organised bilateral air exercise named Eastern Bridge-VI from February 21 to 25, 2022 at Air Force Station Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The exercise named Eastern Bridge-VI is in its sixth edition.

The exercise will provide an opportunity to enhance operational capability and interoperability between the two Air Forces.

A new book explores Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore‘s work for rural reconstruction by setting up ‘Sriniketan’, a wing of his Visva Bharati International University at Santiniketan in 1922.

2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing concludes; Norway tops with 37 medals

The closing ceremony of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games was held on February 20, 2022, at National Stadium (known as the Bird’s Nest) in Beijing. The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, was held from 4 to 20 February 2022.

Norway tallied the most gold medals, 16, and the highest total number of medals, 37, of all the countries competing in Beijing. This is a new record for the most amount of gold medals won at a single Winter Olympics.

The Indian team at the game was represented by one male alpine skier, Arif Khan. India could not win any medal at the games.

President Ram Nath Kovind reviews Naval Fleet at Visakhapatnam

President Ram Nath Kovind reviews the Indian Naval Fleet comprising over 60 ships and submarines, and 55 aircraft. The 12th edition of President’s Fleet Review is being conducted at Visakhapatnam as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the event. This is the second time that Visakhapatnam has been hosting the PFR, the first being in the year 2006 by the then President of India A P J Abdul Kalam.

Freedom fighter and Gandhian social worker Shakuntala Choudhary passes away at 102

Shakuntala Choudhary, the 102-year-old Gandhian social worker and freedom fighter, passed away this morning in Guwahati. Hailing from Assam’s Kamrup, she worked for the wellbeing of villagers, especially women and children, and was popularly known as Shakuntala Baideo.

Choudhary hailed from Kamrup in Assam and was known for her commitment and devotion to the popularization of the Gandhian way of life. She worked for the wellbeing of villagers, especially women and children. She was felicitated with Padma Shri award in 2022 by the Government of India.

Veteran Trinamool Congress leader and senior West Bengal minister Sadhan Pande passed away.

Pandey represented Kolkata’s Burtolla assembly constituency 5 times since 1987, when he was in the Congress, and the Manicktala constituency 3 times since 2011. He joined the TMC after its formation in 1998.
