Tamil Nadu announced the formation of Economic Advisory Council to CM
The Tamil Nadu government announced to constitute an Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister to chart out a rapid and inclusive economic growth path for the State.
The focus of the state will be on to further diversify the industrial base of the districts and to ensure technological upgradation.
The state government also announced that necessary steps would be taken to hold local body elections after the intensity of the Covid pandemic subsided and after ensuring that the delimitation exercise undertaken previously was appropriate in all respects.
The government provided Rs 10,068 crore towards livelihood assistance after assumption of office.
Mavya Sudan becomes the first woman fighter pilot in J&K Air Force
Mawya Sudan has become the first woman fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF) from Rajouri district.
Hailing from the village of Lamberi, of Border Tehsil of Nowshera in Rajouri, she commissioned into the IAF as Flying Officer.
Mawya has become the 12th woman officer and first from Rajouri to be inducted as a fighter pilot in the IAF.
Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria reviewed the combined graduation passing out parade, held at the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, Hyderabad.
Bihar government extends ‘Mukhya Mantri Udyaymi Yojna’ scheme
Bihar Government launched two ambitious schemes christened as the ‘Mukhya Mantri Yuva Udyaymi Yojna’ and the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyami Yojna’ to promote entrepreneurship among youth and women of all sections under the state’s ‘Mukhaya Mantri Udyami Yojna’ scheme.
The schemes were promised by the chief minister during the 2020 Bihar elections in a bid to counter the RJD’s poll plank on unemployment.
During the polls, the chief minister had promised to extend the existing Rs 10 lakh financial assistance for entrepreneurship development to sections, if voted to power.
Earlier, ‘the Mukhya Mantri Udyami Yojna’ was started in 2018 and limited to the members of SC, ST and the extremely backward classes (EBCs).
From now on, youth and women-irrespective of caste and creed, wishing to start entrepreneurship, will get a loan of Rs 10 lakh, in which Rs 5 lakh would be a grant from the state government and the rest Rs 5 lakh will come as loan, refundable in 84 instalments.
Fleet Awards Function 2021
Fleet Awards Function 2021 was held to celebrate the operational achievements of the Eastern Fleet during the last year on 19 Jun 21.
Fleet Awards Function marks the culmination of the Operational Cycle of the Eastern Fleet and recognises accomplishments of the ‘Sword Arm’ of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC).
The function culminated with the distribution of sixteen coveted trophies covering the overall spectrum of maritime operations.
INS Sahyadri was adjudged as the Best Ship of the Eastern Fleet amongst Capital ships, INS Kamorta as the Most Spirited Ship for displaying indomitable spirit and grit whilst undertaking a plethora of challenging missions and Best Corvette trophy as won by IN Ships Kiltan and Khukri amongst Corvettes and similar classes of ships.
Ministry of Minority Affairs launched “Jaan Hai To Jahaan Hai” campaign
The Minority Affairs Ministry along with various Socio-Educational Organisations, NGOs and Women Self Help Groups (SGHs) launched an awareness campaign ‘Jaan Hai To Jahaan Hai’ in rural and remote areas to dispel rumours against the ongoing Covid vaccination drive in the country.
The campaign has launched on 21 June to create awareness on the Covid vaccination programme in rural and remote areas of the country and to “crush and curb” the rumours and apprehensions, being spread by some vested interests regarding the ongoing drive.
Some vested interests are trying to spread rumours and apprehensions regarding Covid vaccines in some areas of the country. Such elements are enemies of the health and well-being of the people.
Two ‘Made in India’ Covid vaccines are the result of the hard work of our scientists and it has been proved scientifically that these vaccines are absolutely safe and effective weapons in the fight against Corona.
Prime Minister Modi launched M-Yoga app
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘WHO M-Yoga’ App while addressing the occasion of the 7thInternational Day of Yoga.
M-Yoga app will provide many videos of Yoga training and practice based on common Yoga protocol in many languages.
Terming this as a great example of fusion of modern technology and ancient science, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that M-Yoga app will help in spreading Yoga world over and will contribute to the efforts of ‘One World,One Health’.
The Ministry of AYUSH and the World Health Organization (WHO) had jointly undertaken a project in mid 2019, focussingon mobile-Yoga.
In order to achieve the above objectives, a memorandum of understanding was signed in July, 2019 between WHO and the Ministry of AYUSH. The m-Yoga project focused on four areas:
- Common Yoga Protocol for GeneralWellness;
- Yoga for mental health and resilience;
- Yoga for Adolescents; and
- Yoga for pre – Diabetics.
Bengaluru topped the list of Ease of Living Index 2020
Bengaluru among Indian cities with a population of more than a million, has emerged as the best city on ease of living parameters among 49 million-plus cities in 2020.
The IT capital of India has pushed the earlier top ranker Pune to number two, while Ahmedabad ranked the third among 111 other cities.
Bengaluru emerged as the top performer in the Million+ category, followed by Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Indore, and Greater Mumbai.
The ease of living is the lowest in Bareilly, Dhanbad and Srinagar.
In cities with a population of less than a million, Shimla was ranked the highest followed by Bhubaneswar while Muzaffarpur in Bihar was had the lowest score, according to the Ease of Living Index 2020 prepared by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.
The rankings under Ease of Living Index 2020 were announced for cities with a population of over a million, and cities with less than a million people. The assessment exercise was conducted last year. As many as 111 cities participated in the exercise.
Ministry of Tourism released 3 draft strategies to boost the tourism sector
The Ministry of Tourism released three draft strategies with roadmaps to promote India as a rural and medical tourism destination and to position it as a place for conferences, meetings and exhibitions.
The Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Development of Rural Tourism in India seeks to develop and promote local products through tourism to generate income and jobs in rural areas and empower local communities.
The second proposal – Draft National Strategy and Roadmap for Medical and Wellness Tourism – seeks to promote India as an accessible and affordable destination for medical treatments and wellness courses.
The national strategy aims at providing an institutional framework strengthening the ecosystem for medical and wellness tourism, developing a brand and ensuring quality assurance.
India secured Fifth rank in foreign direct investments (FDI) in 2020
India received USD 64 billion in Foreign Direct Investment in 2020, the fifth largest recipient of inflows in the world, according to a UN report.
Global FDI flows have been severely hit by the pandemic and they plunged by 35 per cent in 2020 to USD 1 trillion from USD 1.5 trillion the previous year.
Lockdowns caused by COVID-19 around the world slowed down existing investment projects, and prospects of a recession led multinational enterprises (MNEs) to reassess new projects.
The pandemic boosted demand for digital infrastructure and services globally. This led to higher values of greenfield FDI project announcements targeting the ICT industry, rising by more than 22 per cent to USD 81 billion.
Major project announcements in the ICT industry included a USD 2.8 billion investment by online retail giant Amazon in ICT infrastructure in India.
The report noted that the second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in India weighs heavily on the country’s overall economic activities.
18th Foundation Day of National Internet Exchange of India
National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) celebrated its 18th Foundation Day on 19 June2021. For the last 18 years, NIXI has been contributing to Indian Internet Ecosystem.
National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is a not-for-profit organization (section 8 of the Companies Act 2013) working since 2003 for spreading the internet infrastructure to the citizens of India through the following activities:
- Internet Exchanges through which the internet data is exchanged amongst ISP’s, Data Centers and content delivery networks (CDNs).
- NIXI is also the .IN Registry managing India’s country code top level domain (ccTLD) – .IN and .भारत IDN domain.
- NIXI also manages the National Internet Registry of the country delegating Internet Protocol addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System numbers to the Indian Affiliates.
Hungary banned LGBT content from school curriculum
Hungary banned all content about homosexuality and gender change from Hungarian school curriculum and television shows for children under the age of 18.
The latest Hungarian legislation outlaws disseminating information meant for children which is considered to promote homosexuality or gender change.
The law also limits who can conduct sex education classes in schools. Now, only individuals and organisations listed in an official government registry can carry out these classes.
The limitations placed on content is not limited to school curriculum alone. It also bans TV shows meant for children, which feature gay characters or LGBTQI+ themes.
The law also bans companies and organisations from running advertisements in support of the LBTQI+ community, if they are targeted at minors.
Biden signed bill making Juneteenth a national holiday
President Biden signed into law a bill creating a federal holiday to commemorate Juneteenth, the day marking the end of slavery in Texas.
Juneteenth is the portmanteau of June and nineteenth and is recognised as a state holiday in 47 US states.
The day is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the US and is observed on June 19.
It is also known as Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day.
Juneteenth will be the first new federal holiday created in almost four decades, and will now enjoy the same status as the 10 existing annual holidays, which include Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving.
The last such holiday – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – was created in 1983, in honour of the civil rights hero.
Under Govt’s IPDS scheme, 50 kWp solar roof top inaugurated in Solan
A 50 kilowatts peak (kWp) Solar roof top was inaugurated in Solan, Himachal Pradesh under the Integrated power development scheme of the Ministry of Power under Government of India.
Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) was launched in the year 2014 by Ministry of Power, Government of India. All Discoms will be eligible for financial assistance under the scheme.
It has following components:
- Strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution networks in the urban areas.
- Metering of distribution transformers / feeders / consumers in the urban areas.
- IT enablement of distribution sector and strengthening of distribution network under R-APDRP for 12th and 13th Plans by carrying forward the approved outlay for R-APDRP to IPDS.
- Schemes for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and IT enablement of balance urban towns are also included under IPDS. Scope of IT enablement has been extended to all 4041 towns as per Census 2011.
- Underground cabling to include additional demand of States and smart metering solution for performing UDAY States and Solar panels on Govt. buildings with net-metering are also permissible under the scheme.
NTPC among top 50 in ‘Great Place to Work in India’ list
NTPC has been recognised as a ‘Great Place to Work’ for the 15th year in a row by the Great Place to Work Institute.
NTPC Limited was formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited is India’s largest energy conglomerate. It is a company incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 and is under the ownership of Ministry of Power.
The headquarters of the company is situated at New Delhi. It was founded by Government of India in 1975. In May 2010, NTPC was conferred Maharatna status by the Union Government of India.
Criteria for grant of Maharatna status to CPSEs:
- The CPSEs meeting the following criteria are eligible to be considered for grant of Maharatna status.
- Having Navratna status
- Listed on Indian stock exchange with minimum prescribed public shareholding under SEBI regulations
- An average annual turnover of more than Rs. 25,000 crore during the last 3 years
- An average annual net worth of more than Rs. 15,000 crore during the last 3 years
- An average annual net profit after tax of more than Rs. 5,000 crore during the last 3 years
- Should have significant global presence/international operations.
