Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad chief Narendra Giri passes away

Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri was found dead. It was in 2016 that Giri first took over as chief of the Akhara Parishad. It was during his tenure that the Parishad released a list of allegedly “fake saints”. In 2019, Giri was elected chief of the Parishad for a second time. Giri’s body was found in Baghambari mutt in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. According to initial reports, he was found hanging. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Prayagraj today to pay his last respects to Mahant.

Last year, a year after the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya title suit, a meeting of the Akhara Parishad, chaired by Giri, had passed a resolution saying they would initiate a campaign on the lines of Ram Janmabhoomi movement to “free the Hindu temples” in Varanasi and Mathura. Recently, Giri had also demanded the inclusion of the Akhara Parishad in the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust.

Air Marshal VR Chaudhari appointed as new IAF Chief

Uttar Pradesh Government to set up ‘Electronic Park’ near Noida

After Toy Park, Film City, Medical Device Park, and Leather Park, the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government has cleared a proposal to develop an ‘Electronic Park’, along the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, near Noida, to promote electronics industry.

The new Electronic Park will be built at an investment of around Rs 50,000 crore as well as generate employment for thousands of local youths., according to Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of the Yamuna Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).

“The park is likely to be developed in an area of 250 acres either in Sector 14 or Sector 10 of the YEIDA near Jewar Airport,” Singh said in a statement.

Centre forms panel to firm up India’s sustainable finance road map; Head-DEA Secretary Ajay Seth

The task force will firm up recommendations to further strengthen the resilience of the country’s financial sector against risks emanating from various climate and ESG issues, a senior government official told FE. It will firm up recommendations to grow sustainable finance in India and set a clear time frame for their implementation. Amid the growing global focus on the economic impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, the government has set up a key task force under economic affairs secretary Ajay Seth to lay out a concrete road map to bolster India’s sustainable finance architecture.

FSSAI 3rd edition of State Food Safety Index 2020-21 released

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya has released the 3rd state Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s on September 20, 2021, for evaluating food safety across all States/UTs in 2020-21. The Minister felicitated nine leading States/UTs based on the ranking for the year 2020-21 for their impressive performance. The SFSI index measures states’ performance to provide safe food to the general public as per FSSAI Act.

States and UTs are ranked on five parameters of food safety:

  • human resources and institutional data,
  • compliance,
  • food testing facility,
  • training and capacity building
  • Consumer empowerment.

The states and UTs are classified into three categories to rank under the index: large states, small states, and union territories.

President Kovind gives National Florence Nightingale Award 2020 to SV Sarasvati

President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the award in a virtual ceremony on Brig Saraswati for her contribution as a nurse administrator.

Brigadier SV Sarasvati, the Deputy Director-General of Military Nursing Service has been honored with the National Florence Nightingale Award 2020. The National Florence Nightingale Award, the highest national distinction a nurse can achieve, has been conferred upon Brig SV Saraswati, deputy director-General of Military Nursing Service (MNS) for 2020. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the award in a virtual ceremony on Brig Saraswati for her contribution as a nurse administrator.

Facebook India appointed former Uber executive Rajiv Aggarwal as Head of Public Policy

Facebook India appointed former Uber executive Rajiv Aggarwal as its director of public policy in the country, a post that has been vacant for nearly a year since its previous policy head Ankhi Das quit, who quit the company in October last year. She was embroiled in a controversy for opposing the enforcement of hate-speech rules against right-wing leaders in the country. In his new role, Aggarwal will define and lead important policy development initiatives for Facebook in India on an agenda that covers user safety, data protection and privacy, inclusion, and internet governance.

Aggarwal, who will work on user safety, data protection, and privacy, inclusion, and internet governance, will report to Ajit Mohan, managing director, Facebook India, the company said in a statement. His last assignment was with Uber, where he was the head of public policy for India and South Asia.

During his tenure as an administrative officer, he steered India’s first-ever national policy on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and was instrumental in the digital transformation of India’s IP offices. Aggarwal’s last assignment was with Uber, where he was the Head of Public Policy for India and South Asia.

He has been closely associated with the India-US bilateral trade forum, besides being India’s lead negotiator on IPRs with other nations, the company said in a statement.

India will become the third-largest importer by 2050

India could become the world’s 3rd largest importer by 2050, according to a report released by the UK’s Department of International Trade. With a 5.9 percent share of global imports by 2050, the country will become the third-largest importer, following China and the United States. Currently, India is on the eighth spot on the list of largest importing countries with a 2.8% share. The country will jump to the fourth position by 2030 with a 3.9% share, according to the report titled ‘Global Trade Outlook’.

The US’s and the EU’s share of most import sectors is expected to decline out to 2030 as the growing purchasing power of Asia’s middle-class accounts for a rising share of global import demand.
