Malaysia to host 4 nations for Bersama Shield 2022 military exercise
Malaysia will host armed forces from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom in the annual Bersama Shield 2022 training exercise beginning Saturday and running through April 1, the Malaysian Joint Forces said in a statement. Bersama means together in Malay.
The exercise will involve sea and air drills, mostly in international waters but also in part of Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea. The exercise, referred to as BS22, is conducted within the framework of the Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA).
Pralay Mondal appointed as interim MD and CEO of CSB Bank
Reserve Bank of India has on March 23, 2022, conveyed their approval for appointment of Mr. Pralay Mondal, Deputy Managing Director as interim Managing Director & CEO of the Bank, for a period of three months with effect from April 1, 2022, or till the appointment of a regular Managing Director & CEO in the Bank, whichever is earlier.
The post of MD and CEO at CSB Bank was lying vacant after its full-time MD and CEO, C V R Rajendran announces early retirement on health grounds (w.e.f March 31, 2022).
Hisashi Takeuchi appointed as MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki
India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has appointed Hisashi Takeuchi as the MD and Chief Executive Officer of the company with effect from 1st April 2022, consequent to the completion of the term of Kenichi Ayukawa on 31st March 2022.
Takeuchi will succeed Kenichi Ayukawa as the MD and CEO. Ayukawa will now be designated as Executive Vice-Chairman for a period of six months with effect from 1st April, 2022 till 30th September 2022.
Former Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti passes away at 81
Former Chief Justice of India Ramesh Chandra Lahoti passed away at the age of 81 years. Justice Lahoti was appointed as the 35th chief justice of India on 1, June 2004. He retired on November 1, 2005.

Ministry of Jal Shakti launches Sujlam 2.0 Campaign
Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the Sujalam 2.0 campaign for greywater management at a virtual event hosted by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti to mark the World Water Day, 2022 (22 March 2022). It was launched by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Theme: The theme for this year for Sujalam 2.0 campaign is ‘Groundwater: making the invisible visible’.
Objective of Sujalam 2.0: To manage greywater through people’s participation. Under the campaign, we plan to mobilize communities, our institutions like panchayats, schools, anganwadi to undertake greywater management.
OECD projects India’s GDP for FY23 at 8.1% and for FY24 at 5.5%
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has projected the India’s real gross domestic product (GDP) as below:
- For 2022-23 (FY23)= 8.1%
- For 2023-24 (FY24)= 5.5%
The GDP was released in Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India of OECD
Pushkar Singh Dhami takes oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for second term
Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for a second term. Governor Gurmit Singh administered the oath of office at a function at Parade Ground in Dehradun to Dhami. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief J.P. Nadda, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and others were present at the swearing in ceremony.
Pushkar Singh Dhami was appointed as the Chief Minister for the first time in 2021, becoming the youngest Chief Minister of Uttarakhand at the age of 45. The 2022 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly elections were held for 70 seats, in which BJP won 47 seats.

International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is marked on 25 March every year to raise awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice. The Day is observed with ceremonies and activities at United Nations Headquarters in New York and at United Nations offices around the world.
2022 Theme: “Stories of Courage: Resistance to Slavery and Unity against Racism”
The day was designated for international observance by United Nations in 2007. It was first observed in 2008 to remember those who suffered and died at the hands of the brutal slavery system.
International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members 2022: 25 March
Every year on March 25th, the International Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members commemorates the anniversary of the abduction of Alec Collett. He was kidnapped by armed gunman in 1985. Collett, a former British journalist, was kidnapped at gunpoint while working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Collett’s body wasn’t found until 2009.
The UN observes the day to mobilize action, demand justice and strengthen its resolve to protect UN staff and peacekeepers, as well as the colleagues in the non-governmental community and the press. First wildlife bond issued by World Bank to save Africa’s black rhino- Worth- $150 million
The World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, (IBRD) has issued the Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) to support of South Africa’s efforts to conserve endangered species of Black Rhino.
Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) is also known as “Rhino Bond”. It is a five-year $150 million Sustainable Development Bond. It includes a potential performance payment from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The Wildlife Conservation Bond is a first-of-its-kind, outcome-based, financial instrument that channels investments to achieve conservation outcomes — measured in this case by an increase in black rhino populations,” the World Bank said in the statement.
American Mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan wins 2022 Abel Prize
Dennis Parnell Sullivan, distinguished professor in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Mathematics, and the Albert Einstein Chair in Science (Mathematics) at the CUNY Graduate Center, is the recipient of the 2022 Abel Prize for Mathematics.
Mr Dennis has been awarded “For his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense, and in particular its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects.” Abel Prize is awarded by ‘The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters’ for ‘Outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics.
Govt sets Rs 1-trillion infrastructure lending target for DFI for 2022-23
The Centre has set a target of about Rs 1 trillion for government-backed National Bank for Financial Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) for sanctioning loans to the infrastructure sector in the next financial year i.e 2022-23.
NaBFID is a government-backed Development Finance Institution (DFI) and will start operations in the first quarter of 2022-23. KV Kamath is the chairman of NaBFID.
Stephen Wilhite, creator of the GIF, passes away at 74
Stephen Wilhite, the creator of the looping animated Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) image format, died this month at the age of 74 years due to Covid-19 related issues.
Wilhite devised the Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF, in 1987 while working at Compuserve. The Oxford American Dictionary named GIF the word of the year in 2012. He was honoured with a Webby Lifetime Achievement award in 2013.

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has made a shock announcement that she will retire from professional tennis at the age of just 25.
She has won three Grand Slam singles titles — the French Open in 2019, Wimbledon in 2021 and the Australian Open 2022. Apart from playing tennis, she has also played semi-professional cricket during here break from tennis between 2014-2016.
World Tuberculosis Day 2022: 24 March
World Tuberculosis Day is observed every year on 24 March to create awareness among the public about the global epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease.
The theme of World Tuberculosis Day 2022 is ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’.
The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced he had discovered the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.
Former President of Bangladesh, Shahabuddin Ahmed, passes away
Former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed passed away at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this morning. He was 92.
He served as the President of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2001. Apart from this, he was the Chief Justice of Bangladesh from 1990 to 1995.
