Malaysia to host 4 nations for Bersama Shield 2022 military exercise

Malaysia will host armed forces from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom in the annual Bersama Shield 2022 training exercise beginning Saturday and running through April 1, the Malaysian Joint Forces said in a statement. Bersama means together in Malay.

The exercise will involve sea and air drills, mostly in international waters but also in part of Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea. The exercise, referred to as BS22, is conducted within the framework of the Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA).

Hisashi Takeuchi appointed as MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) has appointed Hisashi Takeuchi as the MD and Chief Executive Officer of the company with effect from 1st April 2022, consequent to the completion of the term of Kenichi Ayukawa on 31st March 2022.

Takeuchi will succeed Kenichi Ayukawa as the MD and CEO. Ayukawa will now be designated as Executive Vice-Chairman for a period of six months with effect from 1st April, 2022 till 30th September 2022.

Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the Sujalam 2.0 campaign for greywater management at a virtual event hosted by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti to mark the World Water Day, 2022 (22 March 2022). It was launched by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Theme: The theme for this year for Sujalam 2.0 campaign is ‘Groundwater: making the invisible visible’.

Objective of Sujalam 2.0: To manage greywater through people’s participation. Under the campaign, we plan to mobilize communities, our institutions like panchayats, schools, anganwadi to undertake greywater management.

Pushkar Singh Dhami takes oath as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for second term

Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand for a second term. Governor Gurmit Singh administered the oath of office at a function at Parade Ground in Dehradun to Dhami. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief J.P. Nadda, union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and others were present at the swearing in ceremony.

Pushkar Singh Dhami was appointed as the Chief Minister for the first time in 2021, becoming the youngest Chief Minister of Uttarakhand at the age of 45. The 2022 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly elections were held for 70 seats, in which BJP won 47 seats.

He was kidnapped by armed gunman in 1985. Collett, a former British journalist, was kidnapped at gunpoint while working for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Collett’s body wasn’t found until 2009.

The UN observes the day to mobilize action, demand justice and strengthen its resolve to protect UN staff and peacekeepers, as well as the colleagues in the non-governmental community and the press. The World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, (IBRD) has issued the Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) to support of South Africa’s efforts to conserve endangered species of Black Rhino.

Wildlife Conservation Bond (WCB) is also known as “Rhino Bond”.  It is a five-year $150 million Sustainable Development Bond.  It includes a potential performance payment from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The Wildlife Conservation Bond is a first-of-its-kind, outcome-based, financial instrument that channels investments to achieve conservation outcomes — measured in this case by an increase in black rhino populations,” the World Bank said in the statement.

American Mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan wins 2022 Abel Prize

Dennis Parnell Sullivan, distinguished professor in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Mathematics, and the Albert Einstein Chair in Science (Mathematics) at the CUNY Graduate Center, is the recipient of the 2022 Abel Prize for Mathematics.

Mr Dennis has been awarded “For his groundbreaking contributions to topology in its broadest sense, and in particular its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects.” Abel Prize is awarded by ‘The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters’ for ‘Outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics.

Govt sets Rs 1-trillion infrastructure lending target for DFI for 2022-23

The Centre has set a target of about Rs 1 trillion for government-backed National Bank for Financial Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) for sanctioning loans to the infrastructure sector in the next financial year i.e 2022-23.

NaBFID is a government-backed Development Finance Instit­ut­ion (DFI) and will start operations in the first quarter of 2022-23. KV Kamath is the chairman of NaBFID.

Stephen Wilhite, the creator of the looping animated Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) image format, died this month at the age of 74 years due to Covid-19 related issues.

Wilhite devised the Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF, in 1987 while working at Compuserve. The Oxford American Dictionary named GIF the word of the year in 2012. He was honoured with a Webby Lifetime Achievement award in 2013.
