RBI to conduct the open market purchase of Government Securities under GSAP 2.0

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to conduct an open market purchase of government securities under the G-sec Acquisition Programme (G-SAP 2.0) for an aggregate amount of Rs15, 000cr on 23, September 2021.

Simultaneously, RBI will also sell Government Securities under Open Market Operations (OMO) for an aggregate amount of 15,000 crore rupees on the same day.

RBI has asked eligible participants to submit their bids/offers in electronic format on the Reserve Bank of India Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber) system.

Former AIR Newsreader Ramanuj Prasad Singh passes away

Former Hindi Newsreader of All India Radio Ramanuj Prasad Singh passed away in Gurugram last night. He was 86.

Mr. Singh’s deep voice and relaxed style of reading endeared him to All India Radio listeners from the beginning. He served AIR for 3 decades and became a well-known name among the common people for his news reading for years.

Bangladesh govt to set up e-commerce regulatory body

The Bangladesh government will set up an e-commerce regulatory body to monitor the sector properly. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the government will enact a detailed e-commerce law also to regulate this sector.

The step has been taken after a major e-commerce company of Bangladesh allegedly cheated consumers worth hundreds of crores.

PFRDA to observe NPS Diwas on October 01, 2021

Pension regulator PFRDA has kickstarted a campaign under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to promote pension and retirement planning. The pension regulator on Thursday said it will celebrate on October 1, 2021, as the National Pension System (NPS) Diwas for a carefree ‘azad’ retirement.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority is promoting the campaign across its social media platforms. This campaign has been started by PFRDA under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to promote pension and retirement planning for a carefree ‘azad’ retirement. PFRDA is promoting this campaign on its social media platforms with #npsdiwas. PFRDA is the regulatory body for NPS.

The Finance Ministry in a release said, “The pension regulator aims to encourage every citizen to plan towards creating a financial cushion to ensure for oneself a financially sound future after retirement.”

Government sets up India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL) for managing bad loans

The government has set up the India Debt Resolution Company Ltd (IDRCL), an asset management company (AMC) that will work in tandem with the National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) to clean up bad loans, according to documents available with the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

Bank of Baroda (BoB), Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of India (BoI), Bank of Maharashtra, SBI, Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, and IDBI Bank are the shareholders of IDRCL. IDRCL is a service company/operational entity which will manage the asset and engage market professionals and turnaround experts. Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Public FIs will hold a maximum of 49% stake while the remaining stake will be with private-sector lenders.

It must be noted that last week, the government had cleared a guarantee of Rs. 30,600 crore for security receipts issued by NARCL., which will be buying Rs 2 lakh crore non-performing loans from banks. In the first phase, Rs 90,000 crore will come to the NARCL. These NPAs will have 100 percent provisions in the books of the banks.

Pankaj Advani wins 6Reds Snooker World Cup 2021

Star Indian cueist Pankaj Advani defeated Babar Masih of Pakistan to clinch the IBSF 6-Red Snooker World Cup 2021 final, held in Doha, Qatar on September 21, 2021. Advani, who won his 11th Asian title last week, started the final with a comfortable 42-13 win in the opening frame. Babar drew parity by winning the second 38-14. This is the 24th world title for the 36-year-old Advani. It is also his second back-to-back major International championship win in a week.

Last week, Pankaj got the better of the Asian Snooker finalist Amir Sarkhosh of Iran 6-3.

Former Arunachal Governor YS Dadwal passes away

Former Delhi Police commissioner Yudhbir Singh Dadwal died on Wednesday night at his Chattarpur home due to age-related illnesses, said police officials Thursday. He was 70.

Dadwal, a 1974 batch IPS officer, Dadwal had joined the Delhi Police as an additional deputy commissioner. He became the Delhi Police commissioner in 2007 and was transferred to Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) as its Director General in 2010.

After retirement, he was appointed as the Director-General of the Central Paramilitary Force, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in November 2010.

In 2016, Dadwal was appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Vanijya Saptah being celebrated by the Ministry of Commerce from 20-26 September

Ministry of Commerce & Industry to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ from 20th to 26th September. Department of Commerce to observe ‘Vanijya Saptah’.
During the week-long celebration, the ministry will organize a slew of programs and events across the country to showcase India as a Rising Economic Force and Green & Swachh SEZs.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will also organize exporter conclaves and meets covering all 739 districts across the country with State governments as a part of the celebration.

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka bags Global Goalkeeper Award 2021

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced its annual Goalkeepers ‘Global Goals Awards’ 2021, on September 20, 2021, as part of its annual Goalkeepers campaign. Goalkeepers are the foundation’s campaign to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals). 

The award was given in the following categories:

  • The 2021 Global Goalkeeper Award : Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former United Nations under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women. She has been honoured for fighting for gender equality and her continued advocacy to address the Covid-19 pandemic’s disproportionate impact on women and girls. This award recognises a leader who has driven progress on a global scale toward achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs).
  • The 2021 Changemaker Award : Fairooz Faizah Beether from Bangladesh, for her work promoting good health and wellbeing
  • The 2021 Progress Award : Jenifer Colpas from Colombia, for her work which centres around improving access to clean water and sanitation
Lunar Crater named after Arctic explorer Matthew Henson: Name Proposed by LPI/NASA

The International Astronomical Union has named a crater at the Moon’s south pole after the Arctic explorer Matthew Henson, a Black man who is 1909 was one of the first people to stand at the very top of the world. The proposal to name the crater after Henson came from Jordan Bretzfelder, an Exploration Science summer intern with the Lunar and Planetary Institute, in Houston, TX, which is a member of the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute, headquartered at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley.

In NASA’s missions today, putting the diverse backgrounds of humanity at the forefront of space exploration is a core part of the agency’s values. Located between Sverdrup and de Gerlache craters at the south pole of the Moon, Henson Crater is in the same region the Artemis program aims to land the next slate of lunar explorers, which will be selected from NASA’s increasingly diverse astronaut pool.

Govt accepts RN Ravi’s resignation as interlocutor for Naga peace talks

The Government has accepted the resignation of Ravindra Narayan Ravi, the interlocutor for the Naga peace process, officials said here. Ravi has negotiated for several years with key insurgent groups for the signing of the Naga Peace Accord. Recently, R N Ravi has been appointed as governor of Tamil Nadu. Akshay Mishra is likely to be appointed as the new peace talk’s interlocutor. He is serving in the Intelligence Bureau.

Ravi, who was governor of Nagaland and on September 9 transferred to Tamil Nadu, where he took the gubernatorial post.

In recent years, the Naga peace process has derailed due to the deteriorating relationship between the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-(Isak Muivah) with the Centre, and Ravi. The Nagaland Peace Accord framework was signed on 3 August 2015 by the Government of India, and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN). Greater Nagaland covering the area of its neighboring states and Myanmar is the main demand of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).

Air India chief Rajiv Bansal appointed Civil Aviation Secretary

Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal has been appointed as the new aviation secretary as part of a major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre. Rajiv Bansal was appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Bansal is currently Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Air India. He is a 1988-batch IAS Nagaland cadre, Bansal was serving as additional secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas before Air India. He will replace the current Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola, who retires on 30 September.

Last year in February, Bansal was appointed as the chairman and managing director of Air India for a second time. His appointment came just days after the government announced a 100% stake sale of the debt-ridden Air India.

Statue of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto unveiled in Hungary

Hungary has unveiled the statue of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. The imposing bronze statue was unveiled in Hungary’s capital, Budapest. This is the first such statue across the world to pay homage to the creator of Bitcoin digital currency. It has been constructed in a business park near the Danube River in Budapest. The bust sits atop a stone plinth and is also engraved with the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, who is the pseudonym of the mysterious developer of Bitcoin whose true identity is still unknown.

The sculpture is the bust of a person wearing a hoodie that has the Bitcoin (BTC) logo engraved on it. The face has been sculpted with vague features to represent Satoshi Nakamoto’s anonymity. A video features a crowd of people surrounding the statue and clicking photos and videos during the ceremony.
