Government e-marketplace bags prestigious CIPS Award
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) was announced as the winner in the “Best Use of Digital Technology” category at the CIPS Excellence in Procurement Awards 2021 (CIPS Awards). GeM emerged the winner in this category after competing with some of the biggest and best names in procurement across the public and private sector globally, including GEP, Jaguar Land Rover, Royal Dutch Shell, Vendigital, and Shell.
GeM was shortlisted as a finalist in two additional categories as well, i.e., ‘Public Procurement Project of the Year’ and ‘Best Initiative to Build a Diverse Supply Base’
CIPS Awards: It is conducted under the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), London. CIPS has community across 150 countries.
Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina confers SDG Progress award
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been conferred with the SDG Progress award for the steady progress of Bangladesh in achieving SDGs by the UN-sponsored Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). Prime Minister Hasina is currently visiting the US to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

It was set up in 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General.
It was led by development economist Jeffery Sachs.
Aim: to mobilize global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development and specific competitiveness.
Odisha to host FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021
Odisha will host the prestigious FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021 is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, from November 24 to December 05, 2021.
The company successfully hosted the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup.
The prestigious FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2021, is scheduled to be held in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, from November 24 to December 05, 2021.
It will feature 16 teams: India, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Egypt, Belgium, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, USA, Canada, Chile, and Argentina.

World Pharmacist Day 2021
World Pharmacist Day 2021 will be celebrated tomorrow, September 25 to celebrate and recognise the important role pharmacists play. The World Pharmacist Day theme 2021 is “Pharmacy: Always Trusted For Your Health”. International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) established World Pharmacist Day. FIP is the global federation of national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.
This year’s theme, developed by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), is “Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health”. The theme was chosen to highlight the importance of trust in healthcare and the practice of pharmacy across diverse clinical settings.

PM Modi to roll out National Digital Health Mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (on September 27, 2021) will announce the nationwide rollout of the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM), which has been renamed as Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM). Under this, a unique digital health ID will be provided to the people, which will contain all the health records of the person. The id will be created using details such as Aadhaar and the user’s mobile number.
About the initiative:
- The initiative will be rolled out on the final day of Arogya Manthan, which was kicked off to mark the third anniversary of the government’s flagship health insurance scheme — Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
- PM-DHM is currently in its pilot phase in the Union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
- The mission essentially consists of four main building blocks — unique digital health id, health care professionals registry, health facility registry and electronic health records.
- To begin with, three components, unique health id, doctor’s registry and the health facility registry, have been made operational, the officials cited above said.
- The initiative supports Universal Health Coverage in an efficient, accessible, inclusive, affordable and safe manner through the provision of a wide range of data, information and infrastructure services.
BPCL & SBI Card launch co-branded RuPay contactless credit card
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and SBI Card on Thursday announced the launch of a co-branded RuPay contactless credit card, offering fuel and other benefits. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and SBI Card have joined hands to launch the ‘BPCL SBI Card co-branded RuPay Contactless Credit Card’, according to a joint release. The card will provide rewarding fuel savings and other benefits to the customers. Cardholders will also get accelerated savings on other categories of spends, which include groceries, departmental stores, dining, and movies.
The facility of the card:
As per the details revealed, users of BPCL SBI Card RuPay will get 13X reward points on every ₹100 spent on fuel purchases at BPCL petrol pumps and 1% fuel surcharge waiver on every transaction up to ₹4,000.
This will translate to a 4.25% value back. Customers using this card will earn 2,000 activation bonus reward points worth ₹500 on payment of the joining fee.
Antyodaya Divas Being Celebrated Across India on 25 September
In India, the Antyodaya Diwas is observed every year on September 25, to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. The day was declared by the Modi Government on September 25, 2014. Antyodaya means uplifting the poorest of the poor. Antyodaya means “uplifting the poorest of the poor” or “rise of the last person”. Through Antyodaya Diwas, the government wants to carry forward the message of Upadhyaya who visualized the uplift of the poorest of the poor in the country.
World’s Highest EV Charging Station Inaugurated At Kaza in Himachal Pradesh
The world’s highest electric vehicle charging station has been inaugurated in Kaza village of Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (September 23, 2021). Speaking to ANI, Mahendra Pratap Singh, Kaza Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) said, “This is the world`s highest electric vehicle charging station at 500 ft in Kaza. The aim of this initiative is to check vehicular pollution and promote electric vehicles for a clean and green environment in the region.
Centre notifies Rs 400 crore Scheme for “Promotion of Medical Device Parks” to support the medical devices industry
The government has notified the Scheme for “Promotion of Medical Device Parks” to significantly reduce manufacturing cost, optimize resources and provide easy access to standard testing and infrastructure facilities for the medical device industry. The total financial outlay of the scheme is Rs. 400 crores and the tenure of the scheme is five years, from FY 2020-2021 to FY 2024-2025.
The Medical Devices Parks to be developed under the scheme will provide common infrastructure facilities at one place thereby creating a robust ecosystem for the medical device manufacturing in the country and also reducing the manufacturing cost significantly.
Education ministry constitutes panel to develop new national curriculum frameworks; Head- Former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan
The Union education ministry on Tuesday formed a 12-member committee to develop new curriculums for school, early childhood, teacher, and adult education, officials said. The panel tasked with developing four national curriculum frameworks (NCFs) will be headed by National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) drafting committee chairperson K Kasturirangan. The NCFs serve as a guideline for syllabus, textbook, and teaching practices for schools in India. The panel will be headed by K Kasturirangan, former chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Chairperson of the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) drafting committee.
According to the terms of reference of the committee, it will develop four NCFs for school education, early childhood care, and education, teacher education, and adult education, keeping in focus all the recommendations of NEP-2020 related to these four areas for proposing curriculum reforms.
Once developed, it will be the fifth NCF, which comes after a gap of 16 years.
Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak launches space start-up Privateer
Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak said he plans to make a private space company “unlike the others” in a cryptic tweet Sunday (September 12). The tweet included a link teasing his planned company, called Privateer Space.

Former UK PM Gordon Brown appointed WHO Ambassador for Global Health Financing
The World Health Organization (WHO) September 20, 2021, announced the appointment of Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as its ambassador for Global Health Financing. He is widely credited with preventing a second Great Depression through his stewardship of the 2009 London G20 summit. He mobilized world leaders to commit an additional $1.1 trillion to restore credit, growth, and jobs.
The former UK PM had on (September 19) said “the failure of Boris Johnson, Joe Biden, and European Union leaders to agree on a plan to distribute the spare doses meant the world was facing a vaccine waste disaster,” The Guardian reported.
Mr. Brown has tirelessly called on wealthy nations as well as the private sector to ensure the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, advocating for a concerted global effort — rooted in science and sound economics – to save lives, end the pandemic and restore livelihoods the world over. He warned that more than 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were due to expire and be “thrown away” unless global leaders urgently shared surplus supplies with the world’s poorest countries.
