Bharti Airtel to acquire 4.7% stake of Vodafone in Indus Towers

Bharti Airtel said it has entered into an agreement to acquire a 4.7% stake in Indus Towers from UK’s Vodafone Group Plc in cash via a block deal. The partnership is in line with Vodafone’s plan to sell its entire 28.1% stake in Indus Towers.

Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”) has entered into an agreement with Vodafone to buy 4.7% equity interest in Indus Towers on the principal condition that the amount paid shall be inducted by Vodafone as fresh equity in Vodafone Idea (Vi) and simultaneously remitted to Indus Towers to clear Vi’ outstanding dues,” the Sunil Mittal-led telco said in an official statement. The deal value has not been disclosed by Airtel.

Indian Navy’s multilateral exercise Milan-2022 begins in Visakhapatnam

The latest edition of Indian Navy’s multilateral exercise MILAN 2022 is scheduled to commence from 25 Feb 22 in the ‘City of Destiny’, Visakhapatnam. The theme of the MILAN 2022 exercise is ‘Camaraderie – Cohesion – Collaboration’

MILAN 22 will be conducted in two phases over a duration of 9 days. These include:

  • Harbour phase – from 25 to 28 February
  • Sea Phase – from 01 to 04 March

More than 40 countries are participating in the exercise, which is larger in ‘scope and complexity’ than all previous editions.

Mirabai Chanu wins gold at Singapore Weightlifting International to qualify for Commonwealth Games

Star Indian lifter Mirabai Chanu qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the 55kg weight category on Friday by clinching the gold in the Singapore Weightlifting International here. Competing in the 55kg weight class for the first time, Chanu lifted 191kg (86kg+105kg) to stand on top of the podium in an uncompetitive field.

With this win, the 27-year-old Chanu has qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham in the 55kg weight category. She has also qualified for the CWG in the 49kg weight category on the basis of her Commonwealth rankings.

Third India-Japan joint exercise ‘EX DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022’  to be held at Belagavi from Feb 27

A joint military exercise, “EX DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022”, between India and Japan will be conducted at Foreign Training Node, Belagavi (Belgaum, Karnataka) from 27 February 2022 to 10 March 2022. Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022 is an annual training event which is being conducted in India since 2018.

The 15th Battalion the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army and 30th Infantry Regiment of Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) are participating in this 12 days long joint exercise. The exercise aims at enhancing the inter-operability and foster mutual understanding between the two Armies.

PM-KISAN completes three years of implementation; Rs 1.82 lakh crore transferred in farmers accounts through DBT

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme celebrated its third anniversary on February 24, 2022.

PM-KISAN was launched on February 24, 2019, to provide financial assistance to the farmers. Under this scheme, the financial benefit of Rs 6000 yearly in three equal installments of Rs. 2000 is transferred into the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

As on February 22, 2022, the scheme has provided benefits to about 11.78 Crore farmers and funds amounting to Rs 1.82 lakh crore in various installments have been released to the eligible beneficiaries. Out of which Rs. 1.29 lakh crore has been released during the current Covid 19 pandemic period.

Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy inaugurates Conference on Indian temple architecture ‘Devayatanam’ at Hampi

In a celebration under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of Ministry of Culture, a two-day international conference ‘Devayatanam – An odyssey of Indian temple architecture for 25th & 26th February, 2022 began at Hampi, Karnataka on February 25, 2022. The main aim of the conference is to highlight the architectures of Indian temples.

India ranks 43 in 2022 International IP Index: Top- USA

India has improved its overall IP score from 38.4 per cent to 38.6 per cent, and the country is ranked 43 out of 55 countries on the International Intellectual Property Index, according to an annual report compiled by the influential US Chambers of Commerce on Thursday. US has topped the ranking in which 55 countries have been ranked.

The top five countries in the ranking are:

  • Rank 2- United Kingdom
  • Rank 3- Germany
  • Rank 4- Sweden
  • Rank 5- France

Brickworks Ratings lowers India’s GDP to 8.3% in FY22

The impact of the third wave of Covid on economic momentum may lower growth in the second half of the current fiscal (H2FY22), Brickwork ratings has said in a release. According to the ratings agency, with the upward revisions of the FY21 GDP growth by Mospi, they revise their GDP growth projections for FY22 to 8.3% from the Earlier in January 2022, the rating agency had estimated this between 8.5-9 percent.

Union Bank launches ‘Union MSMERuPay Credit Card’

To tide over the challenges to meet business-related expenses by MSMEs, Union Bank of India and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) have jointly launched a credit card for the borrowers, offering interest-free credit for up to 50 days.

It is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the industry, to provide simplified and digital delivery of Finance to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to meet their business-related operational expenses. The dedicated card for MSMEs will be available to eligible borrowers of Union Bank of India.

MoD signs contract with BEL for retro-modification of Battle Tanks T-90

Acquisition Wing of Defence Ministry has signed a contract for Rs 1075 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited for retro-modification of Commander Sight of Battle Tanks-T-90.

Retro-modification will be carried out in 957 T-90 tanks of Indian Army. It will provide further boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative of the government.

Commander sight of Battle Tank T-90: India’s premier battle tank, is presently fitted with Image Converter tube-based sight for night viewing.

Russia launches special military operation on Ukraine’s eastern Donbas

It will facilitate hassle free reporting, categorization of grievances and disposal of complaints by Ombudsperson. It will also ensure tracking and timely passing of awards by Ombudsperson.

The app will ensure transparency and accountability in the ecosystem of MNREGA. Ombudsperson can also easily upload quarterly and annual reports on the website through the app.
