India’s official Olympic theme song composed and sung by Mohit Chauhan
Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju launched the official theme song of the Indian Olympic Team of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games composed and sung by Mohit Chauhan.
Mohit Chauhan was also present at the launch of the official Team India kit for the Summer Games. He sang ‘Tu Thaan Le’ for the dignitaries present at that event.
More than 100 Indian athletes have qualified for the Tokyo Games so far. The games will open on July 23, 2021.
The Olympic Games 2020 is all set to be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan, despite the concerns due to the widespread COVID-19 pandemic.
Tokyo was selected as the host city of the games during the 125th IOC Session in Argentina on 7 September 2013. The upcoming games will mark the second time that Japan has hosted the Summer Olympic Games.
Karnataka launched a dedicated war room for animal welfare
Karnataka launched a dedicated war room for animal welfare, said to be the first such initiative in the country.
The 24×7 war room, which operates from the Pashupalana Bhavan in Hebbal, will give information on the rearing of cows, sheep, goat, pigs, and rabbits besides poultry farming.
People can also get information on the availability of various breeds of cattle and the approximate price range.
Farmers can get information on immediate measures to be followed to protect their cattle from the war room, according to officials.
The public too can call the war room regarding issues such as stray cattle.
GoI signed MoU with World Bank for Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project
The Government of India, Government of Mizoram and the World Bank have signed a $32 million Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project.
The Project aims to improve management capacity and quality of health services in Mizoram, particularly for the benefit of under-served areas and vulnerable groups.
The Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project will benefit the people across all eight districts of the state.
It will also benefit health sector staff, specifically at the secondary and primary levels, by strengthening their planning and management capacity along with building their clinical skills and competencies.
The project will also invest in improving the overall ecosystem for bio-medical waste management (both solid and liquid waste).
It will include segregation, disinfection, and collection while safeguarding the environment and improving the quality of health service and patient safety.
Karnam Malleswari appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Delhi Sports University
Karnam Malleshwari, the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics, has been appointed the first vice-chancellor of the Delhi government’s Delhi Sports University.
Malleshwari won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She has also been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award and Padma Shri.
The Delhi assembly had passed a Bill for the establishment of this university in 2019, with the aim of offering graduate, postgraduate and doctorate degrees in a range of sports.
The intention of building a world-class sports university is not to generate jobs but to provide a space for individuals to finally build their athletic talent.
Ministry of Education organised Toycathon 2021
Prime Minister interacted with participants of Toycathon-2021. This was the grand finale of the toy-making hackathon organised by the government of India.
Toycathon 2021 was jointly launched by the Ministry of Education, WCD Ministry, MSME Ministry, DPIIT, Textile Ministry, I&B Ministry, and AICTE on 5th January 2021 to crowd-source innovative toys and games ideas.
Around 1.2 lakh participants from across India registered and submitted more than 17000 ideas for the Toycathon 2021. Of these, 1567 ideas have been shortlisted for the three-day online Toycathon grand finale.
Toycathon-2021 is aimed at boosting the toy industry in India. It also aimed to conceptualize innovative toys-based on the Indian value system which will inculcate the positive behaviour and good value among the children.
Toycathone is a unique hackathon where students and teachers from schools and colleges, design experts, toy experts, and startups got together to crowdsource ideas for developing toys and games that are based on Indian culture and ethos, local folklore and heroes, and Indian value systems.
The Toycathon has three variants of tracks of junior level, senior level, and startup level. Participants include students and teachers from schools, colleges, and universities as well as startups and toy experts.
SBI launched Aarogyam healthcare business loan
State Bank of India recently launched the Aarogyam Healthcare Business Loan to provide enhanced support to the healthcare sector in the country amid pandemic.
Under the Aarogyam Healthcare Business Loan, the country’s largest lender will cover entire healthcare ecosystem such as hospitals, nursing homes, diagnostic centres, pathology labs, manufacturers, suppliers, importers, logistic firms engaged in critical healthcare supply.
They can avail of loans upto Rs 100 crore, depending on their geographic location. The loan will be repayable in 10 years.
The Aarogyam Loan can be availed either as term loan to support expansion/modernization or as Working capital facilities such as cash credit, bank guarantee/letter of credit.
In metro centres loans under Aarogyam can be availed upto Rs 100 crores, Tier I & Urban centres upto Rs 20 crores and in Tier II to Tier VI centres upto Rs 10 crores.
Jamsetji Tata on the first place in the list of the world’s biggest donors
According to a list prepared by EdelGive Foundation and Hurun Report, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of Tata Group has emerged as the biggest philanthropist in the world over the last 100 years.
The first-ever list of Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropist of the Century puts Jamsetji Tata ahead of the likes of Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, Henry Hughes and George Soros.
The report pegs the current valuation of India’s pioneer industrialist Jamsetji Tata’s donations at $102.4 billion over the past century. He is followed by Bill and Melinda Gates ($74.6 billion), Warren Buffett ($37.4 billion), George Soros ($34.8 billion) and J D Rockefeller ($26.8 billion).
The highest number of people who made the list are from the United States (39), followed by the United Kingdom (5), China (3), India (2) and Portugal and Switzerland (1 each). Only 13 of the 50 philanthropists who have made the list are alive.
West Bengal approved “Student Credit Card scheme” in their state
The West Bengal government launched the Students Credit Card Scheme which shall come into effect from June 30, 2021.
This scheme shall enable students to seek credit up to Rs. 10 lakh without requiring any personal guarantor.
The state government will function as the guarantor instead. This scheme is primarily dedicated towards female students and those belonging to minority categories.
By availing this scheme, students will be getting the opportunity to pursue a variety of courses depending on their choice.
These courses include diplomas, postgraduate programmes, post-doctoral (PhD) courses etc. It is essentially, a soft-loan policy with adequate credit-limit and loan-refund time given to students.
Along with this, various other schemes have also been launched by students who belong to minority categories.
Mission Youth to select 2500 students for Competitive Examinations’ coaching
Mission Youth J&K has initiated process to support more than 2500 students every year for undergoing competitive examination coaching to prepare them for competing at national level in various examinations.
Under this initiative deserving students will be provided scholarship assistance for competitive examinations coaching.
This will include UPSC Civil Services Examination, J&K PSC Combined Services Competitive Examination, Judicial Service, Engineering Services and other All India level examinations.
Aspirants qualifying preliminary competitive examination shall be provided scholarship/ sponsorship for Mains examination coaching in best institutions with proven track record and having best faculty.
Pradeep Tiwana become the first Indian to be appointed a judge in Australia
Barrister Pardeep Singh Tiwana has become the first Indian to be appointed as a judge of the County Court of Victoria (Australia).
Earlier, Jalandhar’s Palbinder Kaur Shergill had become the first Sikh turbaned baptised woman to be appointed as a Supreme Court Judge of Canada in 2017.
He did his barrister study from the bar school of Lincoln’s Inn and was the youngest applicant to get a law degree as a barrister.
Tiwana has two scholarships from bar school and applied in 1993 as a 23-year-old youth. He practiced till 2006 there, before moving toAustralia.
After doing a 3-month law course from Melbourne university, he started practicing there as a criminal lawyer in 2006.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2021
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on 26 June each year to spread awareness about the problems caused because of drug abuse around the world.
The aim is to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
This year, the theme of International Day Against Drug Abuse is ‘Share Facts On Drugs, Save Lives’. Sharing of credible data along with factual information, is the only way to fight misinformation about usage of drugs.
The United Nations General Assembly declared 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 7 December 1987. The problem of drug abuse was already recognized globally during the early 20th century.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) releases a World Drug Report every year. The report provides data and facts about the intensity of drug problem around the world. Moreover it also provides practical solutions to tackle these problems.
Centre launched ‘itat e-dwar’, an e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal
Union Minister for Law & Justice, Communications and Electronics & IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), ‘itat e-dwar’.
The newly developed e-Filing Portal would enable the parties to file their Appeals, Miscellaneous Applications, documents, paper books, etc., electronically.
The launch of e-Filing Portal ‘itat e-dwar’ will enhance the accessibility, accountability and transparency in the day to day working of the ITAT.
It would not only result in economization of the use of paper, savings in costs but also rationalization of the fixation of cases leading to quicker disposal of cases.
On this occasion, a virtual function was organized at the national level which was attended by the functionaries of ITAT from all the 28 stations.
DRDO successfully test fired Enhanced Pinaka Rocket
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired extended range version of indigenously developed Pinaka rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL).
Twenty-five Enhanced Pinaka Rockets were launched in quick succession against targets at different ranges.
All the mission objectives were met during the launches. The enhanced range version of Pinaka Rocket System can destroy targets at distances up to 45 kms.
The rocket system has been developed jointly by Pune based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).
International Seafarers Day 2021
International Seafarer Day is observed on 25 June each year to acknowledge and spread awareness about the importance of the contribution made by seafarers to world trade.
International Maritime Organization (IMO) has decided the theme of “A Fair Future for Seafarers” for International Day of the Seafarer 2021.
IMO adopted a resolution to observe the Day of the Seafarers in the year 2010. The first International Day of the Seafarer was observed on 25 June 2011. It is now part of the annual list of United Nations Observances.
The campaign for International Seafarer Day 2021 has been encourages governments from around the world to support seafarers amid the pandemic. It also calls for a fair future for them.
Pakistan to remain on FATF grey list
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has remain put Pakistan on the ‘Grey List’ due to failed to take appropriate action against UN-designated terrorists such as 26/11 accused Hafiz Saeed and JeM chief Masood Azhar.
Although the global anti-money laundering and terror financing body has acknowledged some progress made by Pakistan.
Early this year, Islamabad-based think tank Tabadlab revealed that Pakistan sustained a total of $38 billion in economic losses due to FATF’ decision to thrice place the country on its grey list since 2008.
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog. The inter-governmental body sets international standards that aim to prevent these illegal activities and the harm they cause to society.
