The Indian Navy commissioned a Scorpene-class submarine, INS Vela, at the naval dockyard in Mumbai, in the presence of the chief of naval staff Admiral Karambir Singh. INS Vela is the fourth Scorpene-class submarine to be commissioned under Project 75. INS Vela has an indigenous set of batteries and an advanced communication suite of indigenous make.
INS Vela: It is the fourth in that series, following Kalvari, Khanderi, and Karanj. It is expected to further boost Indian capability to defend and secure its strategic sea lanes.
Earlier Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders has entered into a contract for Scorpene-class submarines.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has virtually inaugurated the 5th World Congress on Disaster Management on November 24, 2021.
It is being organized in New Delhi between 24th to 27th November 2021 at the campus of IIT Delhi on the overarching theme of ‘Technology, Finance and Capacity for Building Resilience to Disasters in the context of COVID-19’. It is an initiative of Disaster Management Initiatives and Convergence Society (DMICS).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 25, 2021 laid the foundation stone for the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh. It will be one of the largest aerodromes in Asia. The Jewar airport is the second international aerodrome in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). It is the fifth international airport in Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh has now become the state with the highest number of the international airport in India. The airport, spread over 1,330 acres of land, will be developed by Zurich Airport International AG. The airport is expected to be operational by September 2024. Once operational, this airport will be the largest airport of India and the first net-zero emissions airport of the country.
Union Cabinet has approved the extension for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY-Phase V) for a period of another 4 months i.e. December 2021 till March 2022. Under the scheme, all the beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) receives food grains @ 5 kg per person per month.
The estimated additional food subsidy for Phase V of the scheme is of Rs. 53344.52 Crore. The total food-grains outgo for PMGKAY Phase V will be about 163 LMT.
The 15th edition of the biennial Trilateral Coast Guard Exercise ‘Dosti’ has concluded on 24th November 2021. The Exercise was conducted between the Maldives, India, and Sri Lanka from November 20 to 24 in the Maldives. Indian Coast Guard was represented by ICGS Vajra and ICGS Apoorva.
The aim of this exercise is to further strengthen the friendship, enhance mutual operational capability, and interoperability and build cooperation between the Coast Guards of the three nations.
Exercise Dosti was launched in 1991 between Indian and Maldives Coast Guards. Sri Lanka joined the drill for the first time in 2012.
Moody’s Investors Service has projected the GDP growth rate of the Indian economy as follows:
- India’s GDP growth rate prediction for FY22 as per Moody’s : 9.3%.
- India’s GDP growth rate prediction for FY23 as per Moody’s : 7.9%.
In terms of Sovereign ratings, Moody’s has estimated a ‘Baa3’ rating on India with a negative outlook. The economy rebounded quickly from a steep contraction in 2020.
The Asian Development Bank has approved a USD 1.5 billion (around Rs 11,185 crore) loan to India for COVID-19 vaccine procurement. ADB approved a USD 1.5 billion loan to help the Government of India purchase safe and effective vaccines against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19.
The fund will be used to procure at least 66.7 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses for an estimated 31.7 crore people of the country.
Distinguished art historian & Padma Awardee, Brijinder Nath Goswamy has authored a new book on Indian arts, titled “Conversations: India’s Leading Art Historian Engages with 101 themes, and More”.
The new book will be published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI) and will hit stands in 2022. In this book, B.N Goswamy explores a wide range of subjects on or around the arts.
Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has come out with his autobiography titled as ‘Resolved: Uniting Nations in a Divided World’. Uniting Nations in a Divided World” is being published by HarperCollins Publishers India and released on November 18. Ban performed what has been called the “most impossible job on this earth” with a genuine belief in collective action and global transformation. Ban has described how he became a man of peace from a child of war in his autobiography.
He also talks about his election to the top UN post in 2006, in which India’s Shashi Tharoor was also a contender.
The PM Gatishakti National Master Plan which has been developed by Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics- BISAG-N in a dynamic Geographic Information System (GIS) platform, is conducting a capacity building exercise with senior-level officers of relevant ministries and departments. It will be further developed as a Digital Master Planning tool with Project Management tools, dynamic dashboards, MIS reports generation etc.
Aim: to facilitate the process, capacity building exercise is being conducted by the BISAG-N team with senior-level officers of relevant ministries and departments.
Department of Food and Public Distribution has organized an All India Food Ministers Meeting in New Delhi. It will be chaired by Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal. The meet discuss the issue of the community kitchen and other issues with the Food Minister of all States and UTs.

The former president of South Korea Chun Doo-hwan passed away at the age of 90 years due to heart failure in Seoul, South Korea. He belonged to the ‘Democratic Justice’ party.
The South Korean politician was also a former army general, who led the 1979 military coup that sparked massive democracy protests in the country.
He became the 5th President of South Korea and he served as thePresident of the Democratic Justice Party from 1981 to 1987.
