Razorpay launches card tokenization solution

Fintech platform Razorpay launched the ‘Razorpay TokenHQ’ solution for businesses in India to enable their end-customers to continue experiencing the convenience of saved card transactions.

Now it is available with added security and in compliance with RBI guidelines. The ‘Razorpay TokenHQ’ will work across all major card networks including Mastercard, RuPay, and Visa, and almost the entire base of five million businesses using Razorpay’s services will be ready to support tokenized card transactions, a statement said.

It is a multi-network Card-on-File (CoF) Tokenisation solution. It will work across all major card networks including Mastercard, RuPay, and Visa.

AU Small Finance Bank launches soundbox for payment alerts

AU Small Finance Bank unveiled a sound box that will provide instant voice-based payment alerts to merchant partners.

The QR Code SoundBox is aimed at enhancing the bank’s reach in digital payments, AU Small Finance Bank said in a statement.

The soundbox is a portable speaker that is equipped with a dedicated SIM slot for data connectivity, which gives voice notification. It will be made available in five languages – Hindi, English, Punjabi, Gujarati, and Marathi.

G7 countries reach a breakthrough on digital trade and data

G7 or the Group of Seven wealthy nations on October 22 reached a breakthrough on a joint set of principles to govern cross-border data use and digital trade. The principles named ‘G7 Digital Trade Principles’, were adopted by the respective Trade Ministers of G7 during the G7 Trade Summit, held at Mansion House, in London.

Trade ministers of the seven countries, who met in London, arrived at a consensus on the ‘G7 Digital Trade Principles’. In a statement issued following the meeting, concerns were marked over domestic policies related to data encryption and data localization.

G7 countries have introduced a Global Minimum Corporate Tax rate of at least 15% on Multinational Companies (MNCs). Members US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan, and EU. 

Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2021: 24-31st October

Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week 2021 is being celebrated between 24th to 31st October 2021.

The theme of the 2020 Annual Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week is “Resisting Disinfodemic: Media and Information Literacy for everyone and, by everyone“. It is a major occasion to review and celebrate the progress achieved towards “MIL for All”.

This year will mark the 11th annual observance of the event. The host for 2021 Global Media and Information Literacy Week will be South Africa.

UNESCO will co-organize the event. The MIL is celebrated through the organization of various relevant activities or events.

National Inter-Religious Conference held in Nagpur

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the National Inter-Religious Conference held in Nagpur is a forum for bringing together the views of different religions and sects. He said Indian society is a value-based lifestyle comprising different religions. He was speaking as the chief guest at a one-day National Inter-Religious Conference organized by Lokmat Media Group in Nagpur.

The theme of the conference was ‘Global Challenges to Communal Harmony and Role of India’. It is a forum for bringing together the views of different religions and sects.

Sri Sri Ravishankar, Swami Ramdev, Acharya Lokesh Muni, Archbishop of Mumbai Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Haji Syed Salman Chishti, Bhikkhu Sanghasena, and many other religious leaders participated in this Conference.

Fabio Quartararo wins maiden MotoGP title for France

Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo became the first Frenchman to win the MotoGP world championship following a fourth-place finish in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as his closest title contender Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati crashed.

Pole Bagnaya led the Ducati home race when he crashed 5 laps to go, losing the race to Marc Marquez of Honda and the world title Quartararo. Quartararo’s victory ended nearly a decade of Spanish domination after Marquez, Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, and Juan Mir of Suzuki (2020) won their last nine titles.

India's first ‘test tube’ Banni buffalo calf born in Gujarat

The first IVF calf of the ‘Banni’ breed of buffaloes, found primarily in Gujarat’s Kutch region, was born in the Gir Somnath district.

“This first IVF ‘Banni’ calf is born out of six ‘Banni’ IVF pregnancies established at the doorsteps of a farmer, Vinay L Wala of Sushila Agro farms, located at Dhanej in Somnath district of Gujarat,” said animal husbandry & dairying ministry in a statement.

The process was carried out to enhance the number of genetically superior buffaloes to increase milk production. Producing calves by deploying ART will pave the way for the rapid multiplication of superior animals at a much faster pace. India has more than 109 million buffaloes that are 56 percent of the world’s buffalo population.

NITI Aayog launches “Innovations for You” Digi-Book

The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of NITI Aayog has launched a Digi-book named “Innovations for You”. The sector in focus in this Digi-book is Healthcare.

The book is a compilation of 45health tech startups, incubated at Atal Incubation Centres spread across the country. These startups are leveraging frontier technologies such as AI, IoT, ICT, and others to provide socially relevant solutions to problems like anemia, Malaria, dental care, mental health, neonatal and child care, and monitoring human vitals, among others.

“Innovation for you” is an initiative of Niti Aayog to share success stories of Atal Innovation Mission’s Startups in different domains.

India, UK, and Australia to jointly launch IRIS initiative at COP26

India, Australia, the UK and small island developing states (SIDS) will be launching a new initiative for Infrastructure for the Resilient Island States (IRIS) on the sidelines of the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP26).

At COP 26, India along with the UK, Australia, and SIDS (small island developing states) are launching IRIS (Infrastructure for resilient island states).

The IRIS platform aims at creating an infrastructure that can withstand disasters and lessen economic losses in island nations. The IRIS initiative will be launched with initial funding of $10 million from Australia, India, and the UK. The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 12, 2021.

Former NIO Scientist Dr. Rajiv Nigam Selected for 2022 Joseph A. Cushman Award

Dr. Rajiv Nigam, the former Chief Scientist at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, has been selected for the 2022 Joseph A. Cushman Award for Excellence in Foraminiferal Research.

This award, the highest honor of the Cushman Foundation, recognizes Dr. Nigam’s outstanding lifetime contributions to the field of foraminifera research. The award will be presented at the Cushman Reception at the 2022 Geological Society of America meeting in Denver, Colorado, USA, from October 9-12-2022. The Joseph A. Cushman Award was established by the USA-based Cushman foundation for foraminiferal research in 1979.

KL Rahul appointed as the brand ambassador of Realme

Chinese smartphone brand Realme said it has appointed international cricketer KL Rahul as its brand ambassador. The cricketer will endorse its smartphone category, the company said in a statement. Realme’s partnership with the athlete, it said, reinstates its brand ideology of being youth-oriented.

Realme was established in 2018 by founder Sky Li and Madhav Sheth in India.

Ahmedabad and Lucknow are the two new teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL)

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled Ahmedabad and Lucknow as the two new teams for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after CVC Capitals Partners and Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group successfully bid for the franchises in Dubai’s Taj Hotel. Hence taking the total number of teams in the competition to 10. RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) is the owner of the Lucknow team while CVC Capital Partners is the owner of the Ahmedabad team.

RPSG group has won the bid for Lucknow at Rs. 7090 crore, while CVC Capitals a.k.a Irelia has won the bid for Ahmedabad at Rs. 5625 crore.

The IPL’s first season was played in 2008. There have been fourteen seasons of the IPL tournament. The 15th season will see 10 teams competing for the IPL title.
