Sunil Paliwal assumes charge as Chairperson of Chennai Port Trust

Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, has assumed charge as Chairperson, Chennai Port Trust from 23.10.2021. Mr.Sunil Paliwal is a 1993 batch Tamil Nadu Cadre IAS Officer.  He has done his B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, USA, and MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK.

He is currently serving as Chairman and Managing Director, Kamarajar Port Ltd. He had also worked as the MD of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board

Chennai Port is the 2nd largest container port of India, behind Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva. It is the 3rd-oldest port among 13 major ports of India with official port operations beginning in 1881.

Civil Aviation Minister flags off the direct flight on the Shillong-Dibrugarh route

Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia virtually flagged off the first direct flight on the Shillong – Dibrugarh route under Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (RCS-UDAN). Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Scindia said, Shillong is one of the highest and wettest places in the world and the place is important not only for the country but for the entire world. He said in 2014, only six airports were operational in North East which has now risen to 15 airports. He added that the Centre is further committed to enhancing the inter-state and intra-state connectivity of the North-East.

Shillong is surrounded by hills from all sides and due to the non-availability of any direct mode of transportation, people were compelled to cover a long 12-hour journey by road & train. Two cities can be covered in 75 mins by flight.

Ayush Minister to inaugurate Incubation Centre at AIIA

Minister of AYUSH and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the All India Institute of Ayurveda’s (AIIA) Incubation Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (AIIA- iCAINE) on October 29 at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, according to the Ministry of AYUSH.

It is being organized as a part of 6th Ayurveda Day on the theme ‘Ayurveda for Poshan’. National seminar on Start-ups in Ayush Sector- Scope and Opportunities (AYUR-UDYAMAH) is also being organized on 30th October as a part of the program. It will witness representatives from Ayurveda Sector across the country.

Ministry of Culture launches Amrit Mahotsav Podcast

Ministry of Culture has organized Amrit Mahotsav Podcast as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of Independence. The Amrit Mahotsav Podcast series (Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani) is a tribute to the Indian National Army (persons and movements), which significantly contributed to India’s freedom struggle, some of which have remained untold and not found a place in the conventional storyline.

The first series is Zara Yaad Karo Qurbani, based on the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj). New episodes will be added on a weekly basis.

PM Modi addresses 16th East Asia Summit virtually

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 16th East Asia Summit via video conference on October 27, 2021. It was hosted by Brunei and saw the participation of leaders from the ASEAN countries and Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, the US, and India. This was the 7th East Asia Summit attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 16th EAS was hosted under the Chairmanship of Brunei. This was the 7th East Asia Summit for Prime Minister Modi. The Summit ended with the adoption of three Statements by EAS leaders, which includes, Mental Health, Economic recovery through Tourism, and Sustainable Recovery.

Established in 2005, the East Asia Summit is the premier leader-led forum in the Asia-Pacific region to deal with issues relating to security and defence for the strategic, geopolitical, and economic evolution of East Asia. The members of EAS include 10 ASEAN member states, and India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Russia.

Centre to set up two container-based mobile hospitals with 100 beds in Delhi and Chennai

India is gearing up to ready two container-based mobile hospitals for emergency deployment in cases of natural or other calamities, as part of the Rs 64,000 crore, Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission unveiled by PM Narendra Modi.

The hospital will be the first of its kind in Asia. The unique feature of the hospitals will be that they can be rushed to any place, by rail or air to address a health emergency.

The two hospitals will be placed in Delhi and Chennai. They would have 100 beds each and each hospital unit would have 33 containers for emergency medical care.

MSME Ministry launches “SAMBHAV” National Level Awareness Programme, 2021

Union Minister of MSME Shri Narayan Rane has called for the engagement of the youth in promoting entrepreneurship leading to the economic development of the country. Launching “SAMBHAV”, a National Level Awareness Programme-2021 being organised by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, in New Delhi.

The e-National Level Awareness Programme 2021 ‘SAMBHAV” was launched by the Union Minister of MSME Shri Narayan Rane in New Delhi on October 27, 2021. The one-month-long initiative will encourage students from different colleges/ITIs from all parts of the country to take up entrepreneurship, leading to the economic development of the country.

India successfully test-fires surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried successful test-firing of surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5 on October 27, 2021, from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. It was test-fired at 7.50 pm.

Agni-5 is a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which uses a three-stage solid-fuelled engine.

The missile, which uses a three-stage solid-fuelled engine, is capable of striking targets up to a 5,000-km range with a very high degree of accuracy.

Microsoft launches AI Innovate initiative to empower startups in India

Tech giant Microsoft launched a new programme Microsoft AI Innovate for nurturing and scaling startups that are leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI). The 10-week initiative will support startups in India leveraging AI technologies, helping them scale operations, drive innovation, and build industry expertise.

The new program is open for both B2B and B2C startups, from diverse industries including financial services, healthcare, education, agriculture, space, manufacturing and logistics, retail, and e-commerce.

Supported by TiE Mumbai, the launch cohort will kickstart in November 2021. The first cohort will focus on manufacturing and logistics and the second one will focus on fintech.

CCI approves acquisition of 4.99% stake in HDFC ERGO by HDFC Bank

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the acquisition of 4.99 percent shareholding in HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company (HDFC ERGO) by HDFC Bank.

The Proposed Combination involves the acquisition of 4.99% of the outstanding equity share capital of the Target by the Acquirer from Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC).

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company is a joint venture between HDFC and European insurer ERGO International AG.

Indian Army Celebrates 75th Infantry Day in 2021

The Indian Army celebrates October 27 every year as ‘Infantry Day’. October 27, 2021, marks the 75th Infantry Day on October 27, 2021.

On this day that the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment landed at Srinagar airbase and displayed resoluteness and extraordinary courage and became ‘The Wall’ to thwart the evil designs of the Pakistan Army, who had invaded Kashmir with the help of tribal raiders in 1947.

Infantry Day is celebrated as a remembrance of the first military event of independent India, when the First Battalion of the Sikh Regiment of Indian Army fought battle to accomplish victory over the first attack on the Indian soil by the Pakistan Army and Lashkar invader on October 27, 1947, in the Kashmir valley, who tried to grab J&K.

International Animation Day: 28 October

October 28, International Animation Day (IAD) was an international observance proclaimed in 2002 by the ASIFA as the main global event to celebrate the art of animation.

The day was created in 2002 by ASIFA, an International Animated Film Association, and a member of UNESCO. 2021 marks the 20th International Animation Day.
