Anurag Thakur addresses Summit for Information and Democracy
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur addressed the Summit for Information and Democracy on the sidelines of the UNGA organised at the Consulate General of France, New York. Joining from Leh, Ladakh, the Minister participated in a round table discussion.
Summit was an opportunity to focus on defending and promoting access to freedom of opinion and expression, creation of International Observatory and civil society coalition (around 50 NGOs) linked to the Forum.
International Partnership for Information and Democracy was launched on 26 September 2019 in New York for Multilateralism. It has been signed by 43 States.
Union Minister flags off 2nd edition of Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Challenge at Leh
Union Minister Anurag Thakur has flagged off the second edition of Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Challenge at Leh, Ladakh at 11000 feet above sea level as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav and ‘Fit India Movement.
As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav’ and ‘Fit India Movement’, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Thakur today flagged off the second edition of Ultimate Ladakh Cycling Challenge organised by Ladakh police in coordination with the Cycling Federation of India.

Union Minister launches DD/AIR Transmitters at Hamboting La in Ladakh
Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting dedicated to the nation High Power Transmitters of Doordarshan and All India Radio at Hamboting La near Kargil in Ladakh. The 10 KW transmitters are the highest altitude TV and Radio transmitters in the country, located at the height of 4054 metres (about 13,300 ft) above the mean sea level. The transmitters at Leh are at an altitude of 3501 metres (about 11,450 ft).

Tourism Ministry launches NIDHI 2.0 and India Tourism Statistics
Ministry of Tourism launched NIDHI 2.0 (National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry) and ‘India Tourism Statistics – At a Glance, 2021’ on World Tourism Day (27 September 2021). Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla, delivered a keynote address at the programme “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, today, to mark World Tourism Day, 2021. Union Minister of Tourism, Culture & DoNER Shri G. Kishan Reddy and MoS for Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik also graced the occasion while a video message of Secretary-General, WTO, Shri Zurab Pololikashvili was also played. Secretary Tourism Shri Arvind Singh; DG Tourism, Shir Kamala Vardhana Rao; Head UNEP, ShAtulBagai; senior officers of the Tourism Ministry and representatives of travel and hospitality industry addressed on the occasion.
Apart from this, the Ministry of Tourism will sign MoU with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) to actively promote and support ‘sustainability initiatives’ in the tourism sector.
“Sweet Cucumber” of Nagaland gets geographical indication (GI) tag
Naga Cucumber from Nagaland has officially been certified by India’s Registrar of Geographical Indications (GI) as an agricultural good unique to the state, on September 14, 2021.
Nagaland’s “sweet cucumber” was awarded a geographical identification (GI) tag as an agricultural product under provisions of The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
Naga cucumber is recognised for its sweetness and unique green colour. It is rich in potassium and has low calories. The cucumber is not the first product from the small state to receive a vaunted GI tag. Both the regional variants of tree tomato (tamarillo) and the famed Naga king chilli are also GI tagged. It is the third agricultural product and fourth overall to be granted the GI tag from Nagaland. The Naga cucumber is mostly cultivated in the Mon, Mokokchung, Peren and Wokha districts of the state.
ICRA revise the GDP growth of India to 9.00% in FY 2022
Rating agency Icra on Monday revised up its 2021-22 real GDP growth estimate for India to 9 percent from the earlier 8.5 percent.
A ramp-up in COVID-19 vaccination, healthy advance estimates of Kharif (summer) crop, and faster government spending were the factors that led to the revision, the agency said in a statement.
ICRA is Gurgaon based credit rating agency, owned by Moody’s Corporation.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare addresses 4th Indo-US Health Dialogue
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar addressed the inaugural session of the 4th Indo-US Health Dialogue held in New Delhi on September 27, 2021, being hosted by India, at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The US delegation for the dialogue is led by Ms Loyce Pace, Director, Office of Global Affairs at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Ms Michelle McConnell, Director, Asia, and Pacific, Office of Global Affairs at U.S. Dept. (HHS), Dr Mitchell Wolfe, Ms Diana M. Bensyl were also present. The two-day Dialogue is a platform to deliberate upon multiple ongoing collaborations in the health sector between the two countries. The topics for deliberations will include areas pertaining to the strengthening of epidemiological research and surveillance and vaccine development.

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh takes charge as DG of National Cadet Corps (NCC)
Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh has taken charge as the 34th Director-General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). He was commissioned into the PARACHUTE REGIMENT in 1987. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun as well as NCC, he attended the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the National Defence College Course in New Delhi. Lt Gen Singh has been a Company Commander in the counter-insurgency environment in Nagaland and the Siachen Glacier.
He succeeds Lt Gen Tarun Kumar Aich.
England all-rounder Moeen Ali announces retirement from Test cricket
England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his retirement from Test match career on September 27, 2021, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Monday. Earlier on Sunday, reports had stated that Moeen had already informed captain Joe Root and head coach Chris Silverwood of his decision to call time on his Test career, and a day later, the 34-year-old made the official announcement. The 34-year-old Ali made his debut in Test cricket in 2014 and represented England in 64 Test matches. He took 195 Test wickets including 5 five-wicket hauls and scored five-Test match centuries during his Test career.
World Rabies Day: 28 September
World Rabies Day is celebrated annually on September 28 to raise awareness about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, provide information and advice on how to prevent the disease, and take efforts to control rabies. 2021 is the 15th edition of World Rabies Day.
The theme for the WRD in 2021 is ‘Rabies: Facts, not Fear’. The day also marks the death anniversary of the French chemist and microbiologist, Louis Pasteur’, who developed the first rabies vaccine.
International Day for Universal Access to Information: 28 September
The International Day for the Universal Access to Information (commonly known as Access to Information Day) is observed globally on 28th September every year. Universal access to information means that everyone has the right to seek, receive and impart information for healthy and inclusive knowledge societies.
Initially, the day was designated by UNESCO in November 2015 and was first held on 28 September 2016. The theme of the 2021 International Day for Universal Access to Information will highlight the role of access to information laws and their implementation to build back strong institutions for the public good and sustainable development, as well as to strengthen the right to information and international cooperation in the field of implementing this human right.
IUCAA scientist among 2021 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar winners announced
Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology 2021, were announced during the 80th foundation day of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
City-based astrophysicist Kanak Saha was among the 11 recipients of the 2021 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) prize, given by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Sunday.
Every year, CSIR presents this award to scientists below 45 years of age for their contributions in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, medicine, engineering, and earth, atmosphere, ocean, and planetary sciences. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
