International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste: 29 September
International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is celebrated on September 29, since 2020, to promote and implement global efforts to resolve the issue of food wastage. The United Nations General Assembly designated 29 September as the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste in 2019. The Food and Nutrition Organization of the UN (FAO) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) will collaborate in facilitating the observance of the Day.
The theme for 2021 is Stop food loss and waste. For the people. For the planet. The main objective of this day is to take steps towards responsible consumption and production as well as zero hunger, along with working towards addressing the problem of climate change through sustainable food habits.
MGR Railway Station gets powered by solar energy
Dr. MG Ramachandran Central (DRM) or Chennai Central railway station will get 100 percent of energy through Solar Energy. The Chennai Central railway station comes under the South Central Railway (SCR) zone and which is going to become the world’s largest green railway network. The station will now become the first Indian Railways station, which will get 100 percent day energy through solar panels. With this, the 100 percent day energy requirement of Chennai Central railway station is met by Solar Power, according to the Railway Ministry. Recently, PM Narendra Modi has also expressed his happiness over Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central railway station for being fully solar-powered.
A few months ago, the Railway Ministry had announced that the national transporter is committed to utilize solar energy for meeting its traction power requirements as well as become a complete ‘Green mode of transportation.
Sania Mirza & Zhang Shuai Win Ostrava Open WTA Doubles Title
India’s Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai won the women’s doubles title in the women’s doubles final at the Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The 2nd-seeded pairing won the final, 6-3, 6-2 against third seeds Kaitlyn Christian (US) and Erin Routliffe (New Zealand).
The Indo-Chinese duo of Sania Mirza and Shuai Zhang clinched the women’s double’s title at the 2021 Ostrava Open WTA 500 tournament in the Czech Republic on September 26, 2021. This is the 43rd WTA doubles title win for former World No.1 Sania Mirza.
This was Sania’s second final of the season, following a runner-up finish at the WTA 250 leveland event in the US last month with Christina Mchale.
World Heart Day: 29 September
World Heart Day is celebrated on 29 September annually to draw people’s attention to heart illness and the range of associated health issues. Every year, over 17 million people die from heart disease. As a way to fight this, the World Heart Federation created World Heart Day. It’s Theme 2021: ‘USE HEART to connect’.
CAG GC Murmu appointed as external auditor of IAEA for 6 years
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, G C Murmu has been selected as the external auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), for a period of six years.
Murmu took charge as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on August 8th, 2020. Murmu was selected as the next external auditor of the IAEA at the General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna on September 24, 2021.
He has served as the first Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, he was also appointed as secretary of the department of expenditure, special and additional secretary in the department of financial services, and department of revenue by the Indian Govt.

Sojat Mehndi from Rajasthan and Judima rice wine from Assam gets GI tag
Assam’s rice wine Judima and Rajasthan’s Sojat Mehndi (Henna) have been awarded the geographical indication (GI) tag. The colours of Rajasthan’s renowned Sojat Mehndi will now be beautifying the world as it is the first in the world to get the GI (Geographical Indication) tag. The GI tag is covered under the law of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
About the Judima:
Judima is a local fermented drink made with rice, brewed by the Dimasa community in Assam. It derives its name from the words Ju which means wine and Dima means ‘belonging to the Dimasa’. It is the first traditional brew in all of the northeast to bag GI tag.

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize is named after the founder and Director of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) India, the late Dr (Sir) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar. It has been christened as the ‘Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize for Science and Technology. The award is given each year for outstanding contributions to science and technology. On 26th September 2021, The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize has been presented to 11 scientists for outstanding contributions to science and technology during the 80th foundation day of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize was named after Dr (Sir) Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar who was the founder and Director of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) India.

NCW launches Training & Capacity Building Program For Women
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched Country-Wide Training and Capacity Building Program for Women in Dairy Farming. NCW is collaborating with Agricultural Universities Across India to train women associated with Dairy Farming and Allied activities.

The first program under the project was organized on ‘Value Added Dairy products’ for women SHG groups at the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar in association with Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission. Ms. Sharma said this will empower rural women and make them financially independent. She said the National Commission for Women has been working to help women reach their full potential.
IGL and SDMC ink MoU to establish Waste to Energy Plant
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has signed MoU with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to establish a waste to energy plant in Delhi to convert Municipal Solid Waste into Compressed Biogas (CBG) for use as fuel for running vehicles. The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr. Anil Baijal, Lt. Governor, Delhi, Mr. Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Labour & Employment, Mr. Tarun Kapoor, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Mukesh Suryan, Mayor, SDMC, Mr. Gyanesh Bharti, Commissioner, SDMC, Mr. A.K. Jana, Managing Director, IGL, Mr. Amit Garg, Director (Commercial) and other senior officials from Ministry, SDMC and IGL.
The agreement was signed as a part of the extension of the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) scheme.
SDMC shall provide a designated area in Hastsal in West Zone to IGL for setting up the Biogas plant and CBG Station.
Food Processing and Housing Ministry launches Seed Capital Module
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, in association with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, It was launched on Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) MIS Portal to members of urban SHGs working in the food processing sector.

RBI sets WMA Limit for Central Government at Rs. 50,000 crore
Reserve Bank of India said that Rs 50,000 crore has been set as the ‘Ways and Means Advances (WMA) limit for the Central government during the H2FY22, on Monday. The Reserve Bank may trigger fresh floatation of market loans when the Government of India utilizes 75 percent of the WMA limit. According to the statement, the Reserve Bank retains the flexibility to revise the limit at any time, in consultation with the Centre taking into consideration the prevailing circumstances.

- For Overdraft: Two percent above the Repo Rate
Rohit Sharma first to score 1,000 runs against one Franchise in IPL
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma became the first batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 1000 runs against a single team during Mumbai Indians’ (MI) contest against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Rohit achieved the feat during his 33-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an IPL 2021 clash in Abu Dhabi. The knock took him past the 1000-run mark against KKR. He brought up more than 1000 runs against KKR in the third over of MI’s innings which was bowled by spinner Varun Chakravarty.
Rohit now has 1015 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders at an average of 46.13 and a strike rate of 132.16, including six fifties and one hundred.
Fumio Kishida to become Japan’s next PM
Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) elected former top diplomat Fumio Kishida as its new leader on Wednesday after a tightly contested race that ended in a runoff vote — clearing a path for him to become the country’s next Prime Minister.
Japan’s former Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has won the ruling party’s leadership election, virtually ensuring that he will become the country’s next prime minister. Kishida won 257 votes in a runoff on Wednesday to defeat Taro Kono, a popular vaccines minister who previously held the positions of defence and foreign minister.
The 64-year-old replaces outgoing party leader Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who is stepping down after serving only one year since taking office last September. Kishida previously served as LDP policy chief and was foreign minister between 2012-17, during which he negotiated accords with Russia and South Korea, with whom Japan’s relations are often frosty.
