The biggest cultural extravaganza of Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival has kicked off with colorful renditions of traditional music, dances, and contemporary in one roof at Naga Heritage village Kisama. It is the 22nd edition of the Hornbill festival and will be celebrated in 6 districts of Nagaland. It was held for the first time in 2000. The opening ceremony culminated with the flight of the Hornbill- A musical presentation by Task Force for Music and Arts Nagaland. More than 282,800 people visited the festival during the 20th edition in 2019, including over 3,000 foreign tourists and at least 55,500 domestic visitors.
Dinyar Patel has won The New India Foundation’s fourth Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2021 for Naoroji: Pioneer of Indian Nationalism, a biography of one of modern India’s most significant figures. The bookmarked the life events and legacy of Dada Bhai Naoroji. It also contains the historical background of India’s National Movement during the 19th century.
The winning book was selected on the basis of a jury’s decision chaired by political scientist Niraja Gopal Jayal, Nandan Nilekani and Manish Sabharwal, and historians Srinath Raghavan and Nayanjot Lahiri.
Haryana’s 1986-batch IAS officer, Sanjeev Kaushal, has been appointed as the state’s new chief secretary after the superannuation of his predecessor 1985-batch officer, Vijai Vardhan.
Prior to this, he worked with Centre as Joint Secretary of two state governments, two large PSUs as Managing Director, and also the largest Municipal Corporation of Haryana as the Chief Administrator of Faridabad Complex. P K Das (1986 batch IAS) has also been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner (Revenue).
The Vice-Chancellor of Telangana State Agricultural University Dr. V. Praveen Rao won the 7th M. S. Swaminathan Award for the 2017-19 year. He received the Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Award for his contributions in the fields of Agricultural Research, Teaching, Extension, and Administration. Praveen Rao handled 13 research and 6 consultancy projects on micro-irrigation in India, Israel and South Africa.

Veteran Telugu film lyricist ‘Sirivennela’ Sitarama Sastry, a recipient of the Padma Shri and numerous other awards, died due to lung cancer-related complications at a private hospital. He was 66. He was born on May 20th, 1955 in Anakapalle village in Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh. He launched his first song in the film, ‘Janani Janmabhoomi’ directed by K Viswanath.
In 1986 the movie ‘Sirivennela’ directed by K Viswanath made him famous and also gave him a second name as ‘Sirivennela’ Seetharama Sastry. He got the first ‘Nandi Award for best lyricist for ‘Sirivennela’, presented by the Andhra Pradesh state government. Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist- Telugu, Padma Shri (2019) and He won ‘Nandi’ Awards several times.
India has joined ‘G20 Troika’ and will work closely with Indonesia and Italy to ensure consistency and continuity of G20’s agenda. Apart from India, Troika consists of Indonesia and Italy.
Troika: It refers to the top grouping within G20 that consists of the current, previous, and incoming presidencies (Indonesia, Italy, and India).
India will assume G20 Presidency in December 2022 from Indonesia and will convene the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in 2023.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced that it will roll out its 4G services across India by September 2022. The state-owned telecom company will see around Rs. 900 crore revenue increment in the first year of the rollout, parliament was informed on December 1.
Govt has approved revival plan for BSNL and MTNL with the administrative allotment of spectrum for providing 4G services with funding through budgetary allocation. BSNL has already begun the necessary processes to go for 4G tender.

The IDPWD day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly. The objective of the day is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, as stated by WHO.
This year’s theme is: “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”.
