World’s largest Khadi National Flag hoisted in Leh, Ladakh

The world’s largest national flag, made up of Khadi cloth, has been installed in Leh, Ladakh,  On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Lt. Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri. R.K. Mathur hoisted the Indian Tricolour flag made of khadi cloth. This was the World’s largest National Flag. This tricolour flag was hoisted on the Zanskar Hill in Leh. The flag has been hoisted on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a leader who has always been considered synonymous with Khadi. The tricolor is 225-feet long and 150-feet wide. It weighs around 1,000 kg. The flag has been prepared by the 57 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army.

Government Declares Chacha Chaudhary as official Mascot of ‘Namami Gange' Mission

The iconic Indian comic book cartoon character, Chacha Chaudhary, whose brain works faster than a computer, has been declared as the official mascot for the centrally-sponsored NamamiGangeProgramme. Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced the appointment of Chacha Chaudhary as the mascot for the mission on Friday, saying that the Centre was making an effort to connect children with the campaign of river cleanliness.

An outlay of Rs. 2.26 crore has been dedicated to the project. The comics will initially be launched in Hindi, English, and Bengali languages.

The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has tied up with Diamond Toons, the publisher of the Chacha Chaudhary comics, to conceptualize, develop and distribute the new comics, e-comics, and animated videos featuring the cartoon character. Chacha Chaudhary has been chosen to especially connect children with the campaign of river cleanliness.

According to the Union Government, Namami Gange is not just a program for cleaning river Ganga but an effort to bring collective consciousness among the masses. The initiative brings together Central and State ministries under a common ‘task force’ for the mission and ensures smooth coordination among agencies.

67th National Wildlife Week: 02 to 08 October 2021

In India, National Wildlife Week is celebrated between 2nd October and 8th October every year, aiming to conserve and protect the fauna or animal life of the country. In 2021, India is celebrating 67th Wildlife Week. Wildlife Week was conceptualized in 1952 to raise awareness of safeguarding the lives of wildlife through critical action.

The Theme of 67th Wildlife Week in 2021 is “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”.

8th India-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise – Mitra Shakti 21

India and Sri Lanka will begin a 12-day joint military training exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ in Sri Lanka’s Ampara from October 4 with a focus on enhancing counter-terror cooperation.

The 8th edition of the India – Sri Lanka bilateral joint Exercise “Mitra Shakti-21” is scheduled to take place at Combat Training School, Ampara in Sri Lanka from October 4 to 15, 2021.

The aim of the exercise is to enhance interoperability and sharing best practices in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations between Armies of both countries and further strengthen the relationship between both the South Asian Nations. India and Sri Lanka will begin a 12-day mega-military training exercise in Sri Lanka’s Ampara.

The 7th Edition of Exercise Mitra Shakti was held in 2019, at Foreign Training Node (FTN), Pune, and Maharashtra.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur launches month-long nationwide ‘Clean India Programme’ in October 2021

The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched a month-long Clean India Programme from October 01 to 31, 2021, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration. Deputy Chief Minister of UP Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya and MoSSports, Youth Welfare, Panchayati Raj, UP Shri Upendra Tiwarialso graced the occasion. Secretary of Department of Sports M/o YAS GoI, Smt. Usha Sharma and senior officials of the State and Centre have also attended the event.

The nation-wide cleanliness drive was inaugurated by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on October 01, 2021.

The aim of the programme is to create awareness, mobilize people and ensure their involvement in cleaning waste mainly Single-Use Plastic waste throughout the country. This cleanliness drive aims to propagate the mantra of “Clean India: Safe India”. The initiative is seen to be the largest cleanliness drive of the world in which over 75 lakh tonnes of waste, mainly plastic waste,  from different parts of the country, will be collected and processed in a ‘Waste to Wealth’ model.
