Western Naval Command Sailing Championship-2021 conducted
The Western Naval Command Sailing Championship-2021 was conducted at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai from 23 to the 26th of this month. A total of 59 personnel from seven teams under the WNC participated in it.
59 personnel from seven teams participated in this championship.
It was conducted in seven different classes of boats: Laser (Standard), Laser (Radial), Laser (Bahiya), Enterprise, Bic-Nova, 29-er, J24
The concept of team racing in Enterprise Class and match racing in the J24 class of boats was reintroduced to facilitate wider participation.
North Korea test a newly developed hypersonic missile
North Korea claimed Wednesday that it successfully tested a new hypersonic missile. The advanced weapon system could be harder to defend and continues to expand the country’s military power.
The development of the weapon system increases North Korea’s defence capabilities.
Hwasong series missiles use liquid propellant engines.
This is the first test of a liquid propellant missile in North Korea since November 2017.

PM Modi launches 35 crop varieties to tackle climate change, malnutrition
PM Narendra Modi has dedicated virtually 35 crop varieties with special traits. He also dedicated the newly constructed campus of the National Institute of Biotic Stress Management Raipur to the nation. On this occasion, Prime Minister also distributed the Green Campus Award to Agricultural Universities.
35 varieties include a drought-tolerant variety of chickpea, wilt, and sterility mosaic resistant pigeon pea, early maturing soybean, disease-resistant varieties of rice, and biofortified varieties of wheat, etc.
Govt sets up GoM to rationalise GST rates
The central government has formed a 7-member group of ministers (GoM) for proposing a rationalization of tax rates and considering the merger of different tax slabs under GST. It will be headed by the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj S. Bommai.
The government has formed one more GoM which will look at tapping IT tools to minimize tax evasion and make compliance easier for taxpayers. Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra deputy CM has been made the convenor of this GoM.
SEBI approves frameworks for gold exchange and Social Stock Exchange
Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved the frameworks for gold exchange and Social Stock Exchange. The market regulator SEBI also approved amendments to the delisting framework for equity shares at the board meeting held in Mumbai.
Gold exchange is being set up to trade yellow metal in the form of electronic gold receipts for a transparent domestic spot price discovery mechanism.
An instrument representing gold is to be called Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR).
Under Social Stock Exchange (SSE) creation, it will be used for purpose of fundraising by social entrepreneurs.
Union Agriculture Minister launches Amul Honey
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched ‘Amul Honey’, a new product developed by Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) along with National Bee Board.
The launch saw the importance of the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission for doubling the income of farmers and beekeepers with the budget of Rs 500 crores.
5 large-scale Regional Honey Testing Labs and 100 Mini Honey Testing Labs are being set up in India due to the major concern of pure honey.
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment launches Elder Line
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has launched India’s first Pan-India toll-free helpline – 14567 — called ‘Elder Line’. The Elder Line will offer free information and guidance on pension issues, legal issues, extend emotional support, and even intervenes in the field in cases of abuse, and rescues the homeless elderly.
The platform will allow senior citizens to connect and share their concerns, get information and guidance on problems that they face on a day-to-day basis. It will provide free information and guidance on pension issues, legal issues, extend emotional support, and even intervenes on the field in cases of abuse, and rescues the homeless elderly.
National Helpline for Sr Citizen (Elder line – 14567) has been made operational in various Indian states they are: , Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
Lok Sabha Speaker Launches ‘NIDHI 2.0’ scheme of Ministry of Tourism
The Ministry of Tourism is organizing an event to celebrate “World Tourism Day 2021” on 27th September 2021 in New Delhi, which has been designated by the UNWTO as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”. Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla will be the chief guest of the event. Union Minister of Tourism, Culture & DoNER Shri G. Kishan Reddy, MoS for Tourism Shri Ajay Bhatt, and MoS for Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik will also grace the occasion.
The NIDHI scheme was launched by the Ministry of Tourism to facilitate the digitalization of the tourism sector and promote ease of doing business for the hospitality & tourism sector, by encouraging all accommodation units to register themselves on the platform to become part of the hospitality industry. The NIDHI 2.0 database will have more inclusivity, by not only including accommodation units, but also travel agents, tour operators, & others.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed between the Ministry of Tourism, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and The Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) to actively promote and support ‘sustainability initiatives’ in the tourism sector of each other.

NPCI partners YES Bank to launch RuPay ‘On-the-Go’ payment solution
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has partnered with YES BANK to launch the RuPay On-the-Go contactless payments solutions, in association with FinTech infrastructure partner-Neokred and manufacturing partner- Seshaasai. The RuPay On-the-Go contactless solution is mainly a wearable payment solution, launched to enable customers to make small and large value transactions from accessories that they wear every day.
The solution would eliminate the need to carry a physical card, and customers can use the solution at RuPay contactless-enabled PoS at retail outlets and pay up to Rs 5,000 without the need of PIN. For payments above INR 5000, customers need to tap, followed by their PIN. For Online transactions, the BHIM YES PAY app provides a virtual RuPay card to the customers that can be used for digital and e-commerce transactions.
CK Ranganathan appointed as new President of AIMA
Chairman & managing director CavinKare Pvt Ltd, CK Ranganathan has been appointed president of All India Management Association (AIMA) for a period of one year till the National Management Convention is held in September 2022.
Ranganathan has taken over from Harsh Pati Singhania, JK Paper Vice Chairman & Managing Director. AIMA is a national apex body (a statutory body) for the regulation and licensing of the management profession in India. It is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Yemeni humanitarian organization wins UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award 2021
The Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development, a Yemeni humanitarian organization that has provided a lifeline to tens of thousands of people displaced by the country’s conflict, has won the 2021 UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award.
A Yemeni humanitarian organization is this year’s winner of the U.N. refugee agency’s prestigious Nansen Refugee Award. The Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development has provided life-saving assistance over the past five years to tens of thousands of Yemeni civilians forcibly displaced by conflict. The organisation named “Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development”, founded in 2017 by Ameen Jubran, has won the prestigious honour to support and provide a lifeline to tens of thousands of Yemenis people displaced by the country’s conflict. The UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award honours individuals, groups or organizations for going above and beyond the call of duty to protect refugees, other displaced and stateless people.
The United States Wins 2021 Ryder Cup Golf Tournament
The United States has clinched the 2021 Ryder Cup after rookie Collin Morikawa secured the final half-point to get to a 19-9 victory, which is the largest margin of victory in Ryder Cup history since the 28-point format came about.
The 43rd Ryder Cup Golf Tournament was held from September 24 to 26, 2021, at Whistling Straits, Haven, Wisconsin in US. The Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition held between teams from Europe and the United States.
The Americans lost in 2018 in France and seven of the last 10 Ryder Cups against Europe, so a dominant 2021 victory could change the tide in the rivalry.
International Translation Day: 30 September
Every year, International Translation Day is commemorated on 30 September to celebrate the work of language translation professionals. The International Federation of Translators (FIT) organize the day ever since it was set up in 1953. The day aims to celebrate the work of language translation professionals which facilitates dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, contributing to the development and strengthening world peace and security.
2021 theme: “United in translation”. The day also marks the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators. The first official celebration of ITD was held in 1991.
World Maritime Day 2021: 30 September
