Indian Organisation LIFE receives 2021 Right Livelihood Award

The Delhi-based environmental organisation “Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE)” has been felicitated with the 2021 Right Livelihood Award, an international honour, also known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize. LIFE has been selected for the award for its “grassroots approach of empowering vulnerable communities to protect their livelihoods and claim their right to a clean environment.” The Award was established in 1980 by German-Swedish philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull to “honour and support those who offer a practical and exemplary contribution in such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education, which are not included in Nobel Prize list.

Shiv Nadar to be awarded Global Leadership Award 2021

Prominent Indian industrialists Shiv Nadar and Mallika Srinivasan have been chosen by a top India-centric business advocacy group as the recipients of its 2021 Global Leadership Award. Shiv Nadar is the founder and chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies Limited. Mallika Srinivasan is the chair and managing director, Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE). The two top leaders will be honoured at the 2021 India Ideas Summit to be held on October 6-7, 2021.

Given annually since 2007, the Global Leadership Awards recognise top corporate executives from the United States and India who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and played a major role in advancing the strategic and economic partnership between the countries. Nisha Desai Biswal is the President of USIBC.

Ghanshyam Nayak aka Nattu Kaka of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah passes away

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s Nattu Kaka aka actor Ghanshyam Nayak passed away on Sunday following a long battle with cancer. He was 77. 

Ghanashyam Nayak was known for playing the role of Natwarlal Prabhashankar Undhaiwala AKA Nattu Kaka in the famous show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Ghanshyam Nayak had more than 100 Gujarati and Hindi films to his credit. He starred in over 350 Hindi television shows.

World Habitat Day 2021: 04 October (First Monday of October)

World Habitat Day is the UN initiative that is aimed at promoting the basic right to adequate shelter and housing for everyone in a world which is densely populated and has been affected by the impact of urbanisation. It is observed on the first Monday of every October, annually. This year the event falls on October 4. The theme for World Habitat Day 2021 is ‘Accelerating urban action for a carbon-free world’.

World Animal Day: 04 October

World Animal Day is observed annually on October 04 since 1929. It is celebrated in different countries, worldwide, to educate people in order to help them recognise animals as sentient beings and always keep good actions towards them. It was originated by Heinrich Zimmermann and he organized the first World Animal Day on 24 March 1925 at the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany.

Indian men’s team wins bronze medal in Asian Table Tennis Championship 2021

The Indian men’s table tennis team signed off with a bronze medal in the Asian Championships after losing to formidable South Korea 0-3 in the semifinals. The Indian team was assured of a medal after beating Iran 3-1 in the quarterfinals. Both the semifinalists secure a bronze.

This is the second medal for India at the Asian Championships since 1976. The bronze medal-winning Indian team comprised Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, Sanil Shetty, and Manav Thakkar.

Najla Bouden Romdhane appointed as first woman Prime Minister of Tunisia

Najla Bouden Romdhane has been appointed as the first-ever female Prime Minister of Tunisia on September 29, 2021. Najla Bouden Romdhane is a 63-year-old geologist with little experience in politics. She is a geologist by profession and professor at the Tunis National School of Engineering. Critics fear she may not be able to stand up to President Kais Saied. Others celebrate the first female Arab prime minister. Prior to this appointment, Najla served in the education ministry in 2011.

Amish Mehta Takes Charge as new MD & CEO of CRISIL

Amish Mehta will take over as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CRISIL Ltd, an S&P Global Company, effective October 1, 2021. He has replaced Ashu Suyash. Crisil is owned by S&P.

In his new role, Amish will steer the company’s Indian and global businesses, and their efforts to deliver high-quality analytics, opinions, and solutions to corporations, investors, financial institutions, policymakers, and governments.

Mehta has more than two decades of leadership experience across industries and joined Crisil in October 2014 as President and Chief Financial Officer. In July 2017, he was elevated as the President and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the global analytical centre, India research and SME, the global innovation and excellence hub, and corporate strategy.
