ADB approves $500-million loan to improve quality of school education

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $500-million loan to India to help improve the quality of school education and to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 on students’ learning. The loan supports the Integrated Scheme for School Education (Samagra Shiksha) and the new Exemplar School Initiative of the Ministry of Education (MOE) to improve education quality by focussing on inclusive and equitable learning outcomes.

About 1,800 government schools will be transformed into exemplar schools in Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand. Exemplar schools will demonstrate quality learning environments and effective learning, which will become a model for replication in other government schools across India, ADB said in a statement.

Federal Bank launches an exclusive feature-rich scheme for women

Federal Bank, as part of its women empowerment agenda, launched a feature-rich Savings Bank product for women. The savings scheme is called Mahila Mitra Plus and provides a curated set of features, designed to make financial planning and investments easy for women.

Notable features of Mahila Mitra Plus include:

1. Exclusive preferential interest rates on housing loans
2. Complimentary and customized insurance cover
3. Processing fee waiver for home loans, and myriad other features

Women are also encouraged to open Savings Accounts in the names of their minor children through the provision of 2 Zero Balance Savings Accounts.

Ratan Tata to get Assam's highest civilian award

Assam government will confer its highest civilian award ‘Assam Baibhav’ on Tata Trusts’ chairman Ratan Tata for his contribution towards building cancer treatment facilities in the state.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the state government has decided to confer Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav Awards, 2021 to 19 personalities and the award ceremony will be held on January 24, 2022. Earlier known as ‘Assam Ratna’, the award was renamed as ‘Assam Baibhav’ by the Sarma-led government in September this year.

The Assam government and Tata Trust are collaborating for setting up 19 Cancer Care Units in the state.

Former Andhra Pradesh CM Konijeti Rosaiah passes away in Hyderabad

Former Governor of Tamil Nadu and former Chief Minister of the unified State of Andhra Pradesh, Konijeti Rosaiah, 88, passed away in Hyderabad on Saturday after a brief illness.

Rosaiah had served as MLA, MLC, Lok Sabha members. He held several key portfolios including finance, transport, energy in the cabinets headed by Kotla Vijayabhaskhara Reddy, Channa Reddy and YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

India's Ananya Bansal wins Silver at Asia Youth Paralympic Games in Bahrain

India’s Ananya Bansal won the country’s first silver medal in shotput in the F-20 category at the Asia Youth Paralympic Games in Manama, Bahrain.

Ananya Bansal is an athlete with an intellectual impairment. Deepa Malik, the President of the Paralympic Committee of India lauded Ananya for her performance in the showpiece event.

PhonePe offers health insurance for first-time buyers

Digital payments major PhonePe has launched a health insurance plan, Health@999, for first-time health insurance buyers. The product has a three-step process requiring users to share information such as name, age, gender, and email ID to buy the policy.

The plan will cover expenses including in-patient and ICU hospitalization, daycare procedures, Ayush treatment, and ambulance charges. The cashless hospital network for the plan stretches across 7600 hospitals in the country. Health @999 can be availed via PhonePe instantly and comes with the lifetime renewability feature.

Himachal Pradesh to Organize Mega Health Event in AIIMS Bilaspur

Himachal Pradesh government will organize a mega event at AIIMS Bilaspur to mark the achievement of hundred percent COVID vaccination of the second dose for its eligible population.

It may be recalled that the state had become a champion in meeting the 100 percent target of the first dose across the country and now is has achieved the 100 percent target of the second dose of covid vaccination and became the first state which fully vaccinated against covid 19.

BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda will also inaugurate OPD at AIIMS Bilaspur.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bilaspur (AIIMS Bilaspur) is a public Institute of National importance based in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.

On 4 October 2017 Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the institute. It was inaugurated on 12 January 2021.

World Soil Day observed on 5 December

World Soil Day (WSD) is held annually on December 5 as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources.

World Soil Day 2021 (#WorldSoilDay) and its campaign “Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity” aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, fighting soil salinization, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health.

An international day to celebrate soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002. Under the leadership of the Kingdom of Thailand and within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership, FAO has supported the formal establishment of WSD as a global awareness-raising platform. 

International Volunteer Day celebrated on 5 December 2021

International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism. International Volunteer Day (IVD), also called International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development.

The theme for International Day 2021 is “Volunteer now for our common future. The purpose of the day to celebrate the efforts of volunteers and organizations and offer the opportunity to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels.

History: The resolution 40/212 passed by the United Nations General Assembly to observe this day was initiated in 1985.This awareness also wants the government to spread the importance of volunteer services. Finally, on November 20,1997, the day came into effect.

The Remarkable Record-Breaking Bowling Of Ajaz Patel

New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel, became the third bowler in Test cricket history, after England’s Jim Laker and Anil Kumble of India, to take 10 wickets in an innings.

The Kiwi performed the feat on the second day of the second Test against India in Mumbai, the place of his birth.

English Pacer Jim Laker recorded the feat in 1956 and Indian Spinner Anil Kumble achieved the milestone in 1999.
