The Chairman, Punjab Kala Parishad Dr. Surjit Patar and President, Punjabi Sahit Akademi Dr. Lakhwinder Singh Johal released a short biography of Tokyo Olympics-2021 Gold Medal winner Neeraj Chopra titled ‘Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra’ penned by sports author Navdeep Singh Gill.
Navdeep is a sports author. Neeraj Chopra won a Gold medal in Javelin Throw at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell named the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2021
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell as the winner of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2021. This award is given to him for his gesture of refusing to take a single in the high-pressure 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Semi-Finals against England as he felt he had “obstructed” the way of bowler Adil Rashid at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Mitchell is the fourth New Zealand player to win the award. Other three players include Daniel Vettori, Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson.
Nasa plans to plunge the ISS into South Pacific Ocean in 2031
The International Space Station (ISS) will continue working until 2030, before plunging into the Pacific Ocean in early 2031, according to Nasa. Mission control of ISS will first lower its altitude, before spacecraft begins its descent into South Pacific Oceanic Uninhabited Area (SPOUA) in an area known as Point Nemo.
ISS: modular space station in low Earth orbit and is multinational collaborative project of NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA.
Centre appoints Sonali Singh as Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on additional charge
The centre has given the charge the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance to Sonali Singh, Additional Controller General of Accounts since October 2019, She has been appointed in place of Dipak Dash, who superannuated on January 31, 2022. Sonali is a 1987 batch officer of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).
An office memorandum from the finance ministry said that Singh shall function as head of the organization of Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the same capacity as Additional Controller General of Accounts with effect from 01.02.2022.
Govt appoints JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar as new Chairman of UGC
JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, whose tenure was marred by controversies, has been appointed as Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). He has been appointed for a period of 5 years or till he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is the earliest.
The post of the UGC chairman fell vacant on December 7, 2021, after Prof D P Singh, who had taken charge in 2018, resigned upon turning 65. The post of the vice-chairman of the higher education regulator is also vacant.
IndiGo’s co-founder and promoter Rahul Bhatia appointed as first MD of the company
InterGlobe Aviation on Friday announced the appointment of its Co-founder Rahul Bhatia as the company’s Managing Director with immediate effect. The company is the parent of the country’s largest airline IndiGo. Bhatia is the first ever MD of Indigo, because before this the company never had a managing director.
Ronojoy Dutta is the CEO of the Indigo. IndiGo is India’s biggest airline by market share. It is headquartered at Gurgaon, Haryana.
Kashi Vishwanath Dham-based tableau of Uttar Pradesh wins best state tableau of Republic Day parade 2022
Uttar Pradesh’s tableau at the Republic Day parade was adjudged the best while the Indian Navy’s marching contingent topped among the three services, the defence ministry said on Friday.
The tableau of Uttar Pradesh was based on the theme ‘one district one product and Kashi Vishwanath Dham’. A total of 12 states and union territories had participated in the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2022.
The popular choice category award was introduced for the first time in 2022, wherein the general public was invited to vote for the best marching contingents and best tableaux through the MyGov platform. The online poll was conducted between January 25-31, 2022. Best state/UTs Tableau – Maharashtra (Theme ‘Biodiversity and State Bio-symbols of Maharashtra’.)
MS Dhoni’s first look from graphic novel ‘Atharva: The Origin’ released
Virzu Studios in association with MIDAS Deals Pvt Ltd has released the motion poster of its upcoming graphic novel, Atharva – The Origin. Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been portrayed as the superhero Atharva in this graphic novel.
The graphic novel is authored by Ramesh Thamilmani.
NSO releases First Revised Estimates: shows GDP contraction of 6.6 per cent during 2020-21
The National Statistical Office (NSO) has released the First Revised Estimates of National Income, Consumption Expenditure, Saving and Capital Formation for the financial year 2020-21. NSO comes under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
As per the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation release, real GDP or GDP at constant (2011-12) prices for the years 2020-21 and 2019-20 stands at ₹135.58 lakh crore and ₹145.16 lakh crore, respectively, showing a contraction of 6.6 per cent during 2020-21 as compared to growth of 3.7 per cent during 2019-20.
ISRO to launch Chandrayan-3 in August 2022
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch Chandrayaan-3 in August 2022. Chandrayaan-3 mission-related hardware and their tests are successfully completed. The year 2022 will also witness launch of major projects of ISRO like Gaganyaan and Aditya solar mission.
Chandrayaan-1: India’s first mission to Moon, was launched successfully in 2008 from Sriharikota
Chandrayaan-2 was launched in 2019.
Foundation stone laid for new border haat on Bangladesh-India border
The foundation stone for the third border haat at Kamalpur-Kumarghat on Tripura- Bangladesh border was laid on Thursday jointly by the Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb and Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami was also present on the occasion.
Apart from this, 8 border haats are proposed to be built on the border between Tripura and Bangladesh out of which 2 are already functional at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district.
