Andhra Pradesh CM launched ‘Bima’ scheme with new guidelines
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister recently re-launched the YSR Bima scheme with new guidelines, where the government itself will directly pay the insurance amount to the family of the deceased to make the insurance claims easier.
The State government has allocated ₹750 crore for the scheme for the year 2021-22. In the last two years, the state government had spent ₹1,307 crore for the scheme.
About 1.30 lakh families have been brought under insurance coverage. Under the scheme, an insurance amount of ₹1 lakh will be paid if the beneficiary aged between 18 to 50 years, who is a breadwinner of the family, succumbs to natural death. A sum of ₹5 lakh will be paid if the beneficiary in the age group of 18 to 70 years dies in an accident.
MP Jabir qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 400m hurdles
Athlete MP Jabir become the first Indian to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 400m hurdles after he clocked 49.78s to win gold at the recently concluded Inter-State Athletics Championships in Patiala.
Jabir qualified through the World ranking quota where there are 14 spots available.
The 25-year-old Naval sailor hails from Malappuram, Kerala. He is currently ranked 34th in the World Athletics’ Road to Olympics rankings where 40 athletes qualify.
That makes Jabir the second from the state to compete in the same event in the Olympics.
Jabir, POCOM(Tel), has participated in many National and International Athletic championships representing the Indian Navy and the Services earning many laurels.
DRDO developed the first batch of 12 Short Span Bridging systems
The Indian Army recently inducted the first batch of 12 indigenously designed and developed Short Span Bridging systems into the Corps of Engineers at Delhi which are designed by DRDO and manufactured by Larsen and Toubro Limited.
The system is mechanically launched and capable of carrying tanks over different types of water obstacles.
The unique feature of the system is its compatibility with existing bridging systems to enhance flexibility in negotiating water obstacles.
The system is a major game changer in support of mechanised operations in future conflicts. Despite COVID restrictions, the supply of bridging systems to Indian Army has been on schedule.
The Indian Army has already been supplied with 5 meter Span Bridges and 15 meter Bridging System.
Sports Ministry granted recognition to WAKO India Kickboxing Federation as NSF
The Ministry of Youth affairs & Sports has decided to grant recognition to WAKO India Kickboxing Federation as National Sports Federation (NSF) for promotion and development of the Kickboxing sport in India.
WAKO India Kickboxing Federation is affiliated to World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), which is the International Federation for the sport of Kickboxing.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board at its meeting on 10th June 2021 has approved the recommendation for WAKO to become fully recognized member of the Olympic family of sport.
WAKO have been provisionally recognized member of the IOC since 30 November 2018. The full recognition of WAKO will be finally decided by the IOC Session in Tokyo in July 2021.
To be fully included and accepted in the Olympic movement is important for the recognition and development of the sport of kickboxing.
Kamlesh Lulla among 34 immigrants honoured by prestigious US foundation
IMF Chief Economist Gita Gopinath and NASA scientist Kamlesh Lulla are among the 34 immigrants honoured by a prestigious American foundation ahead of the US Independence Day.
Gopinath and Lulla are among the 2021 Great Immigrants honourees named by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, a non-profit organisation.
Gopinath has been widely published in top economics journals and has received numerous honours, including election as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In 2019, she was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honour the Indian government gives to overseas Indians and persons of Indian origin.
A widely published author, Lulla is a senior advisor for university research and technology collaboration at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre and the former chief scientist for Earth Observations (Space Shuttle).
For 2021-22 FY, India has set a target of $400 merchandise exports
Government of India is set to achieve its $400 billion export target in 2021-22. Indian merchandise exports touched $95 billion in the three months ended June, recording an all-time high in any single quarter.
Merchandise exports in the first quarter of 2021-22 jumped 16% over $82 billion in the same quarter two years ago (Q1, FY19), when compared with a normal year preceding the first wave. The previous record was $90 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020-21.
The first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent 68-day nationwide lockdown since March 25, 2020 adversely affected merchandise exports in the first quarter of the previous financial year (April-June, 2020-21) , which clocked $51 billion.
According to official data, the highest growth of 168% was achieved in iron ore exports, which touched $1.7 billion compared to the same period two years ago [Q1 FY-20].
Similarly, rice exports grew 37% to $2.4 billion. In value terms, engineering goods worth $25.9 billion were exported, a 25% jump over $20.7 billion in April-June 2019.
Petroleum products saw 16% growth during this period to $12.9 billion. About 14% growth was also recorded in pharmaceutical exports, the tenth top export item, to $5.8 billion.
CRPF signed MoU with C-DAC to train forces in advanced technologies
Central Reserve Police Force has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in advanced technologies.
The MoU aims at augmenting the technical capabilities of CRPF by training its manpower in advanced areas like Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber security, Artificial Intelligence, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Big Data Analytics.
The agreement will also provide the expertise of C-DAC in the form of Technology Partner & Knowledge Partner in developing various ICT solutions of CRPF.
India’s second largest cricket stadium is being built in Jaipur
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a financial grant of Rs. 100 crores to the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) to build India’s second-largest stadium in Jaipur.
The construction work for the first phase of the stadium is likely to take 24 to 30 months. An amount of about Rs. 290 crores has been estimated in the construction work.
The stadium is the biggest cricket stadium in the world as it has a total capacity of 1,32,000.
The stadium is oval in shape and as a result, whenever a match is played on any of the 11 pitches, the boundary size remains the same on both sides.
Government increased the retirement age of LIC Chairman to 62 years
The government has extended the superannuation age of IPO-bound LIC Chairman to up to 62 years by making amendment to the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Regulations, 1960.
The changes made in the rules will be called the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Amendment Rules, 2021, according to a government notification dated June 30, 2021.
The government has already amended the Life Insurance Corporation Act, 1956 along with the Finance Act 2021 to facilitate the public offer.
As a part of the amendment, the government significantly increased the authorised capital of LIC to Rs 25,000 crore from Rs 100 crore to facilitate the listing.
Five Eklavya Model Residential School to be founded in Jharkhand
Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda laid the foundation stone for construction five Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) on 3rd and 4th July, 2021 in three districts of Jharkhand.
Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme for model residential school for Indian tribals (ST, Scheduled Tribes) across India.
It is one of the flagship interventions of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and was introduced in the year 1997-98 to ensure tribal students get access to quality education in the remote tribal areas.
EMRSs are set up in States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India. As per the budget 2018-19, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons, will have an Eklavya Model Residential School by the year 2022.
Death anniversary of Swami Vivekanand 2021
India observed the death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, one of the finest spiritual leaders and intellects India.
Swami Vivekananda, died on July 4, 1902, when he was just 39 at Belur Math in West Bengal.
Hailed as a Dhyana Sidha, a meditation expert, by his guru Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, Swami Vivekananda was born Narendranath Dutta in an affluent family in Kolkata on January 12, 1863.
He devoted his life to the service of the nation and humanity and laid emphasis on the power of meditation.
After getting attracted to the idea of meditation in childhood, he achieved fame at the World’s Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893.
Farmers Producer Organizations to be formed across the country
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary said to be formed Ten Thousand Farmers Producer Organizations across the country.
Kailash Choudhary also announced that his Ministry will declare 5000 hectares of Ladakh agriculture land as Organic Zone.
Hilly areas can form FPOs with just 100 farmers against 300 in plain areas. Under FPO programme, after registration, 15 lakh rupees will be given as equity grant by the Government against farmer’s contribution of two thousands each.
Similarly, for administrative purpose eighteen lakh will be given for three years to the FPO. In a FPO maximum 750 farmers can be members.
Plane crash in Southern Philippines
At least 45 people were killed and dozens injured when a Philippine air force aircraft crashed in the southern part of the country.
The C-130 military plane was transporting over 90 people, mostly troops from Cagayan de Oro, in Mindanao, to Sulu province when it missed the runway on the island of Jolo.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy – NIPUN Bharat.
The launch of NIPUN Bharat marks an important step undertaken by the Department of School Education and Literacy, among a series of measures taken for implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
The vision of NIPUN Bharat Mission is to create an enabling environment to ensure universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy
This is to ensure that every child achieves the desired learning competencies in reading, writing and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.
