The World Expo 2020 has been organised in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. Union minister Piyush Goyal said that India received the largest and strategically located plot from the Dubai authorities for the pavilion. Among the 192 participating countries, India will have the biggest pavilion in the expo. The main theme of the Dubai Expo 2020 is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. The Expo was originally scheduled to take place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Expo 2020 is the first to be held in the MENA & SA (the Middle East and North Africa & South Asia) region.
Purpose: World Expos provide a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that have shaped the world we live in today. The grand event will have 191 country pavilions.

Japan’s parliament elected former foreign minister Fumio Kishida as the new prime minister on October 04, 2021. Kishida replaces his predecessor, Yoshihide Suga. The 64-year-old Kishida received 257 votes, from 249 parliament members to be sworn in as the 100th Prime Minister of the country. He replaces Yoshihide Suga, who submitted his resignation along with his entire cabinet on October 04, 2021.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya was sworn in as Interim President of the coastal West African country of Guinea. Colonel Doumbouya, who led the overthrow of President Alpha Conde on the 5th of last month was sworn in by Supreme Court Head Mamadou Sylla for a transition period of unspecified length. Doumbouy, led the military coup in September 05, 2021, to overthrow 83-year-old President Alpha Conde.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated the country’s first “Sports Arbitration Centre of India” in Gujarat which will serve as an independent body to fast track disputes in the sports sector. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was sworn in Monday (October 04, 2021) for a second five-year term running a country in the grip of a nearly year-long war against Tigray forces he described as “hateful” toward the nation, while a handful of visiting African leaders urged him to hold things together.
Mr. Abiy, the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner, is serving as prime minister of Ethiopia since 2018. He was administered the oath of office by Supreme Court Chief Justice Meaza Ashenafi.
The gross GST revenue collected in the month of September was ₹1.17 lakh rupees, which included a CGST component of 20,578 crores, SGST is 26,767 crore, and IGST component of 60,911 crore rupees. The revenue for September was 23% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year. During the month, revenue from import of goods was 30% higher and the revenues from the domestic transactions (including import of services) are 20% higher than the revenues from these sources during the same month last year.
The revenue for September 2020 was, in itself at a growth of 4% over the revenue of September 2019 of ₹ 91,916 crores.

BC Patnaik has taken charge as Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India. He was appointed as Managing Director vide a government notification dated July 5, 2021, LIC said in a statement. Prior to taking charge as Managing Director of LIC, Patnaik was Secretary-General, Council for Insurance Ombudsmen, (CIO) Mumbai. He joined LIC of India in March 1986 as a Direct Recruit Officer.
Indian Steel Association (ISA) announced Friday that former executive director of state-owned SAIL NSE -0.54 %, Alok Sahay has assumed office as its new Secretary-General and Executive Head from 1st October 2021, taking over from Bhaskar Chatterjee. Sahay who is the former executive director of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has experience of almost four decades in the steel industry.
Sahay has worked closely with the steel industry and the Government as one of the core industry representatives to advocate on trade-related matters at national and international forums. His experience also includes training at British Steel and tenure as visiting fellow at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford University.
