Union Minister Bhupender Yadav launches Mascot ‘Prakriti’ and Green Initiatives for Effective Plastic Waste Management
Union Environment Minister Launches Awareness Mascot ‘Prakriti’& Green Initiatives for Effective Plastic Waste Management – The Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav has launched ‘Prakriti’. ‘Prakriti’ is a mascot to spread greater awareness among the masses about small changes that can be sustainably adopted in our lifestyle for a better environment, and various green initiatives.
The green initiatives launched will ensure Plastic Waste Management (PWM) in the country. The initiative is in line with the vision of Prime Minister,Shri Narendra Modi to phase out Single Use Plastics (SUPs) by 2022.
RBI fixes WMA limits for the State Governments/UTs to Rs 47,010 crore
In view of improvement in the pandemic situation, the Reserve Bank on Friday decided to reduce the Ways and Means Advances (WMA) for states and Union Territories to Rs 47,010 crore from Rs 51,560 crore. These norms will be effective from April 01, 2022.
RBI had raised the WMA limit to Rs 51,560 crore for all States/UTs in October 2021, due to the uncertainties related to Covid-19. The higher WMA was applicable till 31 March 2022.
Government appoints Vinay Mohan Kwatra as new foreign secretary
India’s envoy to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra was on Monday, April 4, appointed as the new foreign secretary, succeeding Harsh Vardhan Shringla who will retire at the end of this month, a personnel ministry order said. Mr Kwatra is currently serving as India’s envoy to Nepal, from March 2020.
He will replace current foreign secretary, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who will superannuate on April 30, 2022. Kwatra is a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, having more than 32 years of experience in the foreign service. He has also worked in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office (PMO) from 2015 to 2017, as well as India’s ambassador to France from August 2017 to February 2020.

Author Devika Rangachari pens book on Lakshmibai titled ‘Queen of Fire’
Devika Rangachari, an award-winning children’s author and historian, has written a new novel called “Queen of Fire,” which tells the narrative of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
The novel is all about the brave queen and warrior Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, focusing on her journey as a queen, soldier, and statesman. The book is meant for readers aged 13-17. It has been published by Penguin Random House India in April 2021.
United Nations International Day of Conscience 2022: 05 April
International Day of Conscience 2022 celebrations are on Tuesday, 5 April 2022. This Day is observed every year on 5th April and the first International Conscience Day was observed in 2020. So in the current year, the third United Nations (UN) International Day of Conscience celebrations are being held across the world.
The resolution was adopted on on 31 July 2019 by the UN General Assembly. The year 2022 marks the third edition of the celebrations. This day aims to remind people to self-reflect, follow their conscience, and do the right things.

Anthony Heredia appointed as MD and CEO of Mahindra Manulife Mutual Fund
Anthony Heredia has taken charge as MD and CEO of Mahindra Manulife Mutual Fund; it is a joint venture of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services and Manulife Investment Management (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, which is also known as Mahindra Asset Management Company. He succeeded Ashutosh Bishnoi, who retired on 31st March 2022.
In 2020, Manulife acquired 49% stake in Mahindra Asset Management Company wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services.
International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2022 : 06 April
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), which takes place annually on 6 April, presents an opportunity to recognize the positive role sport and physical activity play in communities and in people’s lives across the globe.
The day is a means to celebrate the power of sport which can drive social change, community development and foster peace and understanding. This day was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 23 August 2013, and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 6 April 2014. The date commemorates the inauguration of the first Olympic Games of the modern era, in Athens, (Greece) in 1896.
Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet Richard Howard passes away
Pulitzer Prize awardee American poet, Richard Howard passed away at age of 92. Richard Joseph Howard was born on 13 October 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States (US). He was an American poet, literary critic, essayist, teacher, and translator.
Howard won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970 for ‘’Untitled Subjects’’ and was a National Book Award Finalist in 2008 for ‘’Without Saying’’. His translation of Charles Baudelaire’s “Les Fleurs du Mal” won the National Book Award (then called the American Book Award) in 1983.
HDFC Bank announce the merger with HDFC Ltd
Mortgage lender HDFC is set to merge with HDFC Bank to create India’s third-biggest financial entity in terms of market capitalisation. With the proposed merger, HDFC Bank can build its own housing loan portfolio and also enhance its existing customer base.
HDFC Bank will be 100% owned by public shareholders. The scheme is subject to the receipt of multiple approvals.

SEBI announces Ideathon ‘Manthan’ to promote innovation in securities markets
Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch on Wednesday said that India is well positioned to leverage technology in the securities market to deliver customised solutions at a very low cost to individuals across the country as she launched an ideathon to promote innovation. The ideathon was launched by Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
Manthan is a six-week long ideathon being organised by Sebi in association with BSE, NSE, NSDL, CDSL, KFintech, CAMS, LinkInTime and MCX. It will facilitate the creation of a pool of ideas and innovative solutions revolving around the securities market, as per a release issued by Sebi.
SBI signs MoU with Border Security Force to offer curated benefits through CAPSP Scheme
SBI and Border Security Force sign MoU to offer curated benefits through CAPSP Scheme: The State Bank of India (SBI) and Border Security Force (BSF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to offer solutions for financial security to serving and retired BSF personnel and family pensioners through the Central Armed Police Salary Package (CAPSP) Scheme. The MoU will offer bouquet of benefits to the serving security forces, retired personnel as well as family pensioners.
The MoU will ensure extensive benefits to the security forces including complimentary Personal and Air Accidental Insurance (Death) cover, additional cover in case of on-duty death, and permanent total disability or partial disability cover, support in child education and the marriage of girl children of deceased BSF personnel among other benefits.
The government announced a hike of 3% in DA
The central government has announced a hike of 3% in dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees. The DA has been hiked by 34% from 31% earlier. The hike came into effect on January 1, 2022.
It will leave a combined impact on the exchequer of account for both Dearness Allowance (DA)/and Dearness Relief (DR) would be Rs.9,544.50 crore per annum.
IAF celebrating 60 years of service by Chetak Helicopter
Indian Air Force has commemorated 60 Glorious years of service by Chetak Helicopter at Indian Air Force at Air Force Station, Hakimpet. The event was inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The Chetak helicopter is the oldest machine, made by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under the licence agreement.
