Chameli Devi Jain Award won by Journalist Aarefa Johari
Journalist Aarefa Johari, was selected as the winner of the Chameli Devi Jain Award in the category of an Outstanding Woman Media person 2021. She has been working with Scroll.in for the last eight years.
The Media Foundation has administered Chameli Devi Jain Award since 1981. Chameli Devi Jain Award is a recognition for women media persons in India who have reported on, gender justice, social development, politics, equity and consumer values.
PNB implements Positive Pay System compulsory for cheque payments worth Rs 10 lakh
Public sector lender Punjab National Bank from April 4, 2022, Monday, has implemented the Positive Pay System (PPS) being compulsory for cheque payments worth Rs 10 lakh and above.
This is being done as a move to protect its over 180 million customers from any security threats. The bank had announced to make Positive Pay System mandatory last month, and the same has been implemented today. Under the new system, high value cheques worth Rs 10 lakh and above will be cleared using the PPS, after reconfirmation with the issuer of the cheque.
About the Positive Pay System (PPS):
- As per the Positive Pay System (PPS) developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a customer issuing a high-value cheque has to reconfirm some essential details. The details are then cross-checked while presenting the cheque in clearing before payment.
- Positive Pay System will be available for all account holders issuing cheques for amount of Rs 50000 and above. Availing of this facility will be at the discretion of the account holder. However, only those cheques which are compliant with instructions of Positive Pay System shall be accepted under dispute resolution mechanism at the CTS grids, PNB had said in a statement last year. The PPS had come into effect in January last year for PNB.
- These details are to be shared with the bank at least 24 working hours before the cheque is presented for clearing. Customers can share the details through its internet banking, mobile banking, SMS banking or in their home branch in the prescribed format.
Sarhul Festival 2022 celebrated in Jharkhand
The biggest tribal festival of Sarhul, in which sal trees are worshipped, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervor across Jharkhand on Monday.
It is celebrated in the Hindu month of Chaitra, three days after the appearance of the new moon. It is also a celebration of the beginning of spring. The word ”Sarhul” is connected with tree worship. It is a festival where nature is venerated. In the year 2022, it falls on 04 April, Monday.
About the festival: Sarhul is celebrated by many tribes in Jharkhand, but most notably the Munda, Ho, and Oraon tribes. While nature veneration is an important aspect of the festival, there are also many cultural programmes that are enjoyed along with it.
Among these many cultural events is“Baa Porob”, the festival of flowers and the worship of the Sal Tree as well as a special Sarhul dance.
The festivities around Sarhul are made even more special with the many festive delicacies that are cooked and enjoyed, such as the rice dish called ”handia”’, a baked or dried fish dish called ”fish sukha”.
“Tiger of Drass: Capt. Anuj Nayyar, 23, Kargil Hero” authored by Meena Nayyar & Himmat Singh Shekhawat
Meena Nayyar, Mother of Captain Anuj Nayyar and Himmat Singh Shekhawat, a part of Rashtriya Riders, a biking group that pays homage to martyrs and their families has authored a new book titled “Tiger of Drass: Capt. Anuj Nayyar, 23, Kargil Hero”, published by HarperCollins Publishers India.
The book features the story of Capt. Anuj Nayyar (23 years old), who martyred during the 1999 Kargil War while fighting to secure the Drass sector which was critical to the success of Operation Vijay and India’s victory in Kargil. Captain Anuj Nayyar was awarded India’s second-highest gallantry award, the Maha Vir Chakra, in 2000.
NTPC and GGL have agreed to combine Green Hydrogen into piped Natural Gas
NTPC has taken the initiative of blending green hydrogen in the GGL (Gujarat Gas Limited) Piped Natural Gas (PNG) network at NTPC Kawas as part of its ongoing commitment to the environment. In the presence of Mohit Bhargava, CEO, NTPC REL & ED RE, NTPC, and Sanjeev Kumar, MD-GGL & GSPL, a formal agreement between the two firms was signed.
This hydrogen blending project at NTPC Kawas is a ground-breaking initiative and the country’s first of its type. This is a step toward decarbonizing the culinary sector and achieving energy self-sufficiency for the country.
Community museum inaugurated in Ladakh
A community museum was opened in the Gya-Sasoma villages of Leh district, Ladakh.
Aim: Preserve and forward Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage to future generations.
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh Chairman/CEC Tashi Gyaltson has inaugurated the Community Museum in Gya – Sasoma. It is the first of its kind museum in India, which has contributed a variety of articles and collections to establish the Community Museum in a traditional Ladakhi House.
‘One Health’ pilot project launched by Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), under the Ministry Of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying(MoFAHD), the Government of India(GoI) has launched the One Health Pilot project in Uttarakhand. The objective of the one health pilot project is to implement the One Health Framework by the One Health Support Unit.
Key Points:
The Unit’s main goal is to create a national One Health roadmap based on the lessons learned during the pilot project’s deployment. The implementation of the One Health Support Unit would be led by an inter-ministerial One Health committee chaired by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
A book titled ‘The Maverick Effect’ authored by Harish Mehta

Jio-bp and TVS Motor to collaborate on EV solutions
Jio-bp and TVS Motor Company announced that they have agreed to explore the creation of a robust public EV charging infrastructure for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the country, building on Jio-bp’s growing network in this space. Customers of TVS electric vehicles are likely to gain access to Jio-extensive bp’s charging network, which is also open to other vehicles, as part of this proposed agreement.

- The partnership aims at creating a regular AC charging network and a DC fast-charging network.
- According to TVS Motors, this will match with Jio-bp and TVS‘ aim to deliver a vast and reliable charging infrastructure to their customers.
