Global Disability Summit being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. ‘Disability
Summit, Argentina 2019’, the three-day summit will be held from 6 June to 8 June 2019.
India will be represented by the Minister of Social Justice and
Empowerment Thaawar
Chand Gehlot.

The Global
Disability Summit is organized by International Alliance Disability
(IDA), an umbrella organization focused on improving
awareness and rights for individuals with disabilities around the globe which
was established in 1999, and Latin
American Network of Non-Governmental Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and
their Families (RIADIS).
Objective:
The summit will be focusing on deliberating
issues across the world
concerning empowerment and inclusion ofPersons with Disabilities.
The summit will also include a discussion to work out a mechanism for enabling
them to live an independent and dignified life.
The Summit brings together governments, international
organizations, organizations of people with disabilities,
civil society organizations, international cooperation agencies,
academia, and the private sector, with the hope of achieving real change for
people with disabilities.
1st
Global Disability Summit:
The 1st
Global Disability Summit was held in London on 23-24 July 2018. The
summit was hosted by the UK Department
for International Development (DFID), along with the International Disability
Alliance (IDA) and the Government of Kenya.
Aim: The 1st summit was in line with the
principle of ‘nothing
about us, without us’.40 countries participated in the
summit.
All countries that participated in the summit
signed the Charter
for Change, the principal legacy document of the Global
Disability Summit and committed to working in direction of economic empowerment
of the persons with disabilities.
