DISTRIBUTION OF COTTON TEXTILE INDUSTRIES [ PART – 3]
□ Tamil Nadu
◇ Although TN produces only about 6% of the mill cloth of India, the state excels all other states in the production of yarn and accounts for over 44% of the total yarn production of the country.
◇ Coimbatore – most important centre – Manchester of South India.
□ West Bengal
◇ Kolkata is the most important centre of WB. It enjoys the facilities of a port, humid climate.
◇ Coal from Raniganj, local labour due to high density of population and those of dyeing and washing.
◇ The other important centres are Haora, Murshidabad, Hugli, Sirampur, Shiampur and Panihar.
□ Uttar Pradesh
◇ Developed in western part of UP.
◇ Kanpur is the largest centre and is known as Manchester of UP.
◇ The city has 10 out of 52 cotton textile mills of the state.
◇ Other important centres are Moradabad, Varanasi, Agra, Bareilly, Aligarh, Modinagar etc.
