Distribution of Population

Human Resources : Geography

The pattern of population distribution refers to the way in which people are spread across the earth’s surface. According to this pattern, more people generally live near the equator and fewer people inhabit areas toward the poles.

The distribution of population in the world is extremely uneven. This distribution is always dynamic; individual locations may gain or lose population over time, but the total number of people living on Earth stays about the same (with minor fluctuations due to births, deaths, migration, and aging). The distribution of life on Earth is even more uneven than that of humanity; there are very few “species-rich” areas.

Some areas are sparsely populated and some areas are densely populated due to relief features climate conditions, etc.

Many more people live north of the Equator than south of the equator and almost three- quarters of the world’s people live in the continents of Asia and Africa.
