Dope-cleared Sanjita Chanu to get Arjuna award for 2018

Two-times Commonwealth Games gold-winning weightlifter Sanjita Chanu will finally get the coveted Arjuna award which has been on hold since 2018. Chanu will be conferred with the Arjuna award as per a 2018 Delhi High Court order, which directed the selection committee to consider her and keep the decision in a sealed cover to be disclosed only if she was absolved of the doping charges.

Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu was born in 2 January 1994 in Kakching Khunou, Kakching district, Manipur.

She is a two time Commonwealth Games Champion. Chanu won the gold medals at the 2014 Glasgow and the 2018 Gold Coast events in the women’s 48 kg and 53 kg weight category respectively.

Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won a gold in women’s 48kg weightlifting at the 2014 Commonwealth Games; it was India’s first medal on the second day of the competition.

Chanu won her second successive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the 2018 edition held in Gold Coast, Australia.
