ESIC Social Security Scheme witnessed 8.21 lakh enrolments in 2020 March

Around 8.21 lakh new members joined the ESIC-run social security scheme in March 2020, against 11.83 lakh in February 2020 as reported by the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in a report titled ‘Payroll Reporting in India: An Employment Perspective-March 2020’.

The NSO data included the payroll data of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

The data highlighted that the subscribers to the scheme in 2018-19 were 1.49 crore. This count increased to 3.83 crore in March 2020.

It stated that during fiscal 2019-20, the number of net new subscribers increased to 78.58 lakh as compared to 61.12 lakh recorded by the EPFO in 2018-19.

Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) manages the Employees’ State Insurance health insurance fund. ESIC was established on 24 February 1952 under the ESI Act 1948. ESIC functions under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
