Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya has released the 3rd state Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s on September 20, 2021, for evaluating food safety across all States/UTs in 2020-21. The Minister felicitated nine leading States/UTs based on the ranking for the year 2020-21 for their impressive performance. The SFSI index measures states’ performance to provide safe food to the general public as per FSSAI Act.
States and UTs are ranked on five parameters of food safety:
- human resources and institutional data,
- compliance,
- food testing facility,
- training and capacity building
- Consumer empowerment.
The states and UTs are classified into three categories to rank under the index: large states, small states, and union territories.
Top state in smaller states category – Goa
Top state in larger states category – Gujarat
Top Union Territories – Jammu & Kashmir
