G Krishnakumar appoints as Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s chairman: G. Krishnakumar has been named Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a ‘Maharatna’ and Fortune Global 500 company. Krishnakumar, an electrical and electronics engineer from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and a postgraduate in finance management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, was executive director in the company before his elevation. He replaces Arun Kumar Singh, who retired as chairman in October 2022. Post that, Gupta was holding additional charge of the chairman. According to an official order, Krishnakumar will serve as chairman and managing director until April 2025, or until further notice, whichever comes first.

The Burmah Shell was acquired by the Indian government on January 24, 1976, resulting in the creation of Bharat Refineries Limited. It changed its name to Bharat Petroleum Company Limited on August 1st, 1977. Also, it was the first refinery to process Bombay High, a recently discovered indigenous crude.
