Govt proposes to invest ₹50 lakh crore for modernisation of Railways
Indian Railway is looking at a 50 lakh crore rupees investment over the next 12 years. The rail infrastructure in the country increased by mere 30 per cent in the last 65 years due to the lack of adequate investment.

Electrification work has been undertaken by the Ministry of Railways at the cost of Rs 11,000 crore, which has been sanctioned. Indian Railways availed the Proliferation of Linke Hofmann Busch(LHB) coaches, which are technologically superior, have better speed potential, aesthetics, and safety features. The Production Units of IR would be producing only LHB coaches from the year 2018-19 onwards.
