I: 5×2 – 18x + 9 = 0 II: 4y2 + 9y – 9 = 0

Direction: Following question contains two equations as I and II. You have to solve both equations and determine the relationship between them and give answer as,

Q.

I: 5x2 – 18x + 9 = 0

II: 4y2 + 9y – 9 = 0

A.            x < y

B.            x > y

C.            x ≤ y

D.            x ≥ y

E.            Relationship between x and y cannot be determined

Sol:

From I =>5×2 – 18x + 9 = 0

5×2 – 15x – 3x + 9 = 0

5x(x – 3) – 3(x – 3) = 0

=> (5x – 3) (x – 3) = 0

=> x = 3, 3/5

From II =>4y2 + 9y – 9 = 0

4y2 + 12y – 3y – 9 = 0

4y(y + 3) – 3(y + 3) = 0

=> (y + 3) (4y – 3) = 0

=> y = -3, 3/4

Hence, relationship between x and y cannot be determined
