In a mixture of milk and water, milk is 16 L more than water and the cost of the mixture is Rs.33(1/3)

In a mixture of milk and water, milk is 16 L more than water and the cost of the mixture is Rs.33(1/3). If the cost of pure milk is Rs.50 per L, then find the total quantity of the mixture.

a)            36 L

b)            48 L

c)            32 L

d)            50 L

e)            40 L

Sol:

Let the quantity of water = ‘x’ L

So, quantity of milk = (x + 16) L

Cost of pure milk = Rs.50 per L

From the question:

[(x + 16) * 50]/(2x + 16) = 100/3

(50x + 800) * 3 = 200x + 1600

150x + 2400 = 200x + 1600

x = 16

So, total quantity of the mixture = 16 + 16 + 16 =

48 L
